TV.
Now is a good time to talk about television! Now that fall is officially here, there have been lots of tv shows that have just begun, some that just wrapped up their season finales, and some are getting ready to start up! What a time! Here’s what I’ve been watching lately:
Blackish - ABC
The Blackish writers address major topics by providing history and fact but also addressing real opinions. Sometimes conflicting opinions however still valid opinions. It’s so important that different perspectives are put on display in our society. The more we see...the more we know...the more opportunity we have to understand one another. Blackish is providing that oppritunity in a impactful, familial, and comedic way. And the cast....Love them!
Queen Sugar - OWN
Beautiful cinematography, beautiful actors, black representation, beautiful stories, just everything… beautiful. I won’t give too much away, but if you aren’t watching Queen Sugar you’re missing out fam!
Broad City - Comedy Central
Abbi and Ilana get into some crazy stuff in New York City! They will for sure keep you laughing while addressing major relevant issues!
The Therapist - VICELAND
Celebrities going through talk therapy. Need I say more?
What have you been watching lately?
I’m open for recommendations!

20s.
These past few months, have been a great journey of self exploration for me. Wednesday, scolling through twitter, as I lay unbothered in the cool crisp sheets the sun began to poke through the sheer drapes. I press play.
“If I had 20 back… oh what a mess I’d make. 20 is for you.20 is for growth. 20 is for the pursuit of a tomorrow that is better than today. 20 is for options. 20 is for passion and knowledge and enjoyment. It is not for continuous compromise. It is not a time to say, this is the guy that I gotta make it with because this is the guy that I have and no matter what compromises, no matter what I don’t like, because I gotta put up with it cause he’s my man. 20 is for firing dudes when they don’t act right. 20 is for figuring out what you like in certain men.20 is for finding out what different kind of men are out there and which ones you want to keep and when you want to discard. It’s not for picking up people’s clothes, it’s not for sticking it out when you’re not enjoying it anymore. 20 is opportunity to move onward, upward, forward. Get a large life! Because even if a dude doesn’t end up in it you still enjoy it. 20 is for creating all that potential and not just comprising your way into the corner of a closet wondering what the heck happened.” - Judge Lynn Toler
20s have been a little tough thus far for me. The introduction to so many concepts that I as a young person am openly naive to because… that’s all that I can be. I don’t know what I don’t know. I just take it day by day and learn as I go. In natural response, I believe many people gravitate to Judge Toler’s message and leave feeling empowered about their immediate past relationship or...situationship if you will because...I mean this was Divorce Court. But I challenge you to revisit.
"The pursuit of tomorrow… that is better than today."
I don’t really know what y’all have been up too but beginning work in Corporate America, becoming financially independent, losing touch with friends, gaining new ones, experiencing love, humanizing my parents, making mistakes, becoming more sexually free, establishing credit, this presidency, and learning the limits of my spirit has kept me really. It has been very eyeopening and discomforting to say the least. It would be easy to just sit a be frustrated about it.
However, the bigger picture. “Zoom Out.” Things may not seem clear right now or it may just not be you time, but it will get better. It will! Think about the place your were in at the top of the year. Think about what all you’ve learned and how far you’ve come. Today is better than yesterday and yesterday was better the day before that because it made us who we are right now. It’s literally not a sprint.
