1: We Ditched School For This?
A/N... WELCOME TO THE FICCCC!!! Very excited for this first chapter. Some things before you start reading. Yes I'm aware people don't like americanized marauders but i fear thats all i know and i promise this is much better without me trying to fake knowing english slang and mannerism. Another thing- I do not know what the ship with james is going to be right now or if im even going to make this a set ship but if were feeling passionate about jily, jegulus, or jegulily lmk😝😝😝
Word Count: 1.4K
“What in god's name are you doing?” James grunts as he watches Sirius mix the soggy school pizza with mustard and ranch. He leans across the table closer to Remus, who looks like he is seconds away from throwing up his sandwich, and swallowing half of it in one bite.
“Sirius- Jesus- get that away from me or I'll projectile vomit on you.” Remus pinches his nose leaning as far back onto Peter as he can manage.
Before Sirius gets the chance to retort to the comments a loud alarm begins to blare through the lunch room. The four boys stand to join the rest of the Hogwarts students on the football field while the fire fighters arrive.
“Let’s get out of here.” Sirius announces as they exit the possibly burning school.
“And do what exactly…?” Remus gives him a skeptical look knowing that nothing good ever comes from Sirius’ ideas.
“Moony, it doesn't matter what we do. I mean, this alarm is just a gift in disguise… I know you were dreading that physics test during 6th period, so why not just take advantage of it.” James argues in defense of the idea.
James had been willing the universe to get him out of school that day and he knew this was meant for him. He usually wasn’t one to try and ditch class but he was unwillingly in a theater class this semester and today was his performance with Lily and Regulus.
While he didn’t mind working with Lily, since they were both Juniors and had mostly mutual friends since elementary school, it was Regulus– Sirius’ little brother that was James’ problem. He hated that Regulus hated him, and working with him was impossible; nothing was cracking him from the coldness he had for James. Which also meant that whenever James wanted to practice his scene in their weird love triangle scene with them that their teacher had assigned, Regulus refused to practice, and now he was going to fail.
“Why are we here???” Peter asks as the group walks up the steps to the Museum of Natural History.
“Yeah this place has always given me the creeps, especially after that field trip in 6th grade…” James says remembering the worst field trip he had ever been on, being in this same museum.
“Obviously to learn about history Pete… also the tour guide that works everyday at 12 is my fake guy, I promised him I’d take a tour for a discount on my card” Sirius says, adjusting his jacket, looking for the Animals of the Ancient Americas exhibit where his friend is sitting on his phone doing nothing in the deserted room.
As the group's footsteps get closer the 20-something guy looks up from his phone and practically bolts to the entering group. “You came!”
“I mean I told you I would” Sirius chokes down a snort at his enthusiasm “Uh- Dan these are my friends James, Remus, and Peter, guys this is Dan” They all nod at Dan while he smiles and begins to back further into the exhibit room.
“You all are going to love this I promise.” Dan says again, overly excited, as he begins to lead the group through the different artifacts and preserved animals.
When they hit the stuffed bears James’ phone begins to blow up. When he pulls it out of his jacket pocket to see who’s turning his phone into a jack hammer, he sees 20… now 21 texts from Lily.
“Shit” He whispers to himself as he lingers behind the group.
‘JAMES FLEAMONT POTTER
where the FUCK are you.
and why are you leaving me to deal with Mr. Fox and Regulus ALONE
you better have polio or I will get your ass for this
we just got lectured at for 15 minutes because of you’
He now feels guilty for leaving his scene partners, even though this was exactly what he wanted in the first place.
‘Sorry Lils I'll make it up to you I promise.’
He looks back up to the group in front of him and types out another message
‘Do you happen to need a fake ID?’
After another 20 minutes of staring at snakeskin and old dirt that archaeologists found some weird spiders in, the four boys are released from the hot room and leave the museum.
“That genuinely might be the weirdest thing we’ve ever had to sit through because of you.” Remus says bluntly, tired, and regretting his decision to leave school.
“Yeah, sorry Pads you know I’m usually on board with your side quests but damn that guy was weird… I mean seriously he knew way too much about lizard scales, it was freaky.” James agrees with Remus.
“And they didn’t even have the actual spiders!” Peter whines as they all pile onto the crowded subway “I mean that was the only part I actually wanted to see, I’ve read about them and how some of them were radi-”
“Ugh no- I forgot my jacket in there” James cuts Peter off seconds after the train leaves and starts to make his way to the door, Sirius follows him.
“James there’s not another train for an hour once you get back here, we can just come get it tomorrow.” Sirius attempts to stop him from getting up to the door but isn't successful.
“Sirius I’ll be fine I’ll just take the F line home or something, just go home now I don’t want to get your parents mad for no reason” As the subway doors crack open James is out in a second making sure Sirius has no way to follow him back to the museum.
This might not be James’ best idea but he has already messed up so much today there's no reason for him to also be missing his favorite red zip-up on top of everything else. So he tracks his way back to the museum just before they close, to grab it from the exhibit.
Dan is nowhere to be seen when James re-enters the Ancient Animals room, but his jacket is. It’s still draped over the barrier pole he was leaning on when Lily was texting him earlier. He snatches his jacket and throws it on, but pauses at the display he was standing face-to-face with.
I don’t remember a thing about these.. What even- “OW what the fuck?” James’ hand snaps up instinctively slapping his collarbone when he feels a sharp pinch and a little burning. He lifts his hand from where he had slapped to see the crushed blue and red carcass of a spider in his palm. “Oh hell no that's nasty.”  He muttered, immediately dropping the spider to the ground, and finding his way to the bathroom by the entrance.
Once his hands were fully rid of the spider residue, James pulled off his jacket again and moved his shirt to see if the spider had actually done anything or if he was just being dramatic. Looking at his shoulder in the reflection was a little disorienting, but once he got a solid look at the spot the spider had been, there was no way he was being dramatic.
While it didn’t hurt much, the spot had two visible fang marks. All of the skin around it was bruising, and the blood in his veins directly surrounding the bite were a weird shade of purpley-blue.
Since the pain that was barely there was manageable, James decided not to be dramatic.
I mean it was just a little spider bite, he thought and took the subway home.
It was getting late and the F line wasn’t the safest of places to be after 10pm, but it definitely beat walking— so James cut his losses and got onto the cart with the most people that didn’t look like they wanted to shiv him and run.
He slumped down next to the doors and an elderly woman. The second James sat down, he tried to relax, and no matter what he tried— he was unable to. Maybe it was the spider bite. Maybe it was the guilt for ditching Lily this morning. Or maybe, he was just exhausted and pissed about forgetting his sweatshirt.  But whatever it was, it definitely didn’t feel normal. James had felt anxious before, and this wasn’t nerves. He didn’t feel sick exactly, but this was yet again something he wanted to ignore so he could just get home and sleep.
