Luisa secretly talks to the donkeys about how she feels like she’s only worth the weight she can pull and how she’s afraid that the townspeople won’t need her someday. So the donkeys (who adore Luisa) make a collaborative effort to escape so she’ll always have something to do.

I hc that Delores and Bruno were really close before the latter disappeared. And she associates him with the sound of falling sand because when she was younger, she would go to his room when her gift got too overwhelming because the sound of the falling sand would help block out the other noises.

And she “grew to live in fear of Bruno stuttering or stumbling” because when Bruno first disappeared Delores thought he’d died and she was hearing his ghost.
