that moment by the end of sinners where the harrowing opening scene of sammie walking into the church bloody and beaten, shellshocked, terrified, holding his broken guitar, and his father is welcoming him back into the fold of the church like a prodigal son, and it seems to be the perfect set up for a religious cautionary tale of the consequences of straying from god... but it's then resolved in this instant transition where you see sammie driving away, crying, still clutching his guitar despite it all and it hits all in one moment that he has rejected christianity and chosen blues even though he's just gone through this horrible, traumatic event "because" of "the devil's music" - that he has uncovered and refused the abusive fallacy at the center of christianity that the bad things that happen to you if you stray are because of the things you love that are against bible doctrine, that it's your fault and you've brought it upon yourself. and he said no! he said no. and then we see him go on and live to have this successful career and know that he was right, that the association of blues with the devil was a lie. that's it that's what it's like. i bawled my eyes out at the movie theatre especially in combination with the beauty and terror of the piece the resistance of the film, the scene where the spirits of the past and future all come together to unapologetically embody that music, that history, even as they are surrounded by flames burning the building down, and it's like: fuck you, we'll have the party in hell, then, but god damn it we will have it

we share a warriors bond (we were both in the same fandom at the same time and now neither of us are in that fandom anymore but we’re still beloved mutuals)

so hard not to become the most annoying person on earth if you're a little excitable and just learned a little about a topic literally no one around you has any interest in

I am absolutely certain that 9 out of 10 people who say they shave because they "hate how leg hair feels" only hate the feeling of hair when it's growing back. yeah of course it feels awful, it's short and blunt and poking you....... hair you've had for a while will feel soft and like nothing at all.
#see i don’t love long leg hair specifically because i can FEEL it in my pants or the breeze going through it if i’m wearing shorts#weird sensation don’t love it#also i’m a dancer so for practicality reasons (hair holds sweat)#i like to keep things waxed/shaved

i promise you that nobody has ever in their life thought "wow, this other person inserted absolutely zero friction into my life. they were so efficient and worked so hard to get out of my way. i love them for that." not EVER. not ever ever. if you sublimated your own personhood that hard they didn't even think of you at all. the people we remember in life are the people who got in our way a little, and broke up our routine, who asserted their perspective and gave us something new to think about or feel. that's how we form real relationships -- by inconveniencing one another and actually having a marked influence on one another's lives. to be loved is to be annoyed. and to be annoying at someone. and to be thankful, at the end of it all, that somebody broke you out of yourself for a moment and got in your way.
it's great to be considerate and obviously not every interaction is gonna be special, but you can't go through life as if every person is a cashier that you don't want to get mad at you for asking for an extra bag.

What are actually fun things I should put on a wedding registry we have all the gd plates we need and we’ve run out of ideas
if you can think of anything inexpensive, throw it on there. i'm 31 so all of my friends are getting married and i am so so broke so i'm always thrilled to see something on their registry i can afford. obviously i'm not obligated to get them a gift, but i like to! i think people avoid things that seem too "basic" but a few months ago i got my friends a $12 spatula set off their registry. it was just 2 regular spatulas. i guess they needed spatulas. made me happy and now they have spatulas.
#some of the best wedding gifts we got were inexpensive and deeply practical/useful!#good kitchen tools and utensils are relatively cheap and so helpful#also towels and potholders and cleaning products cause good cleaning products can be so expensive to buy all at once!#gift advice#wedding
