i took a stab at composing for this short film my dad mentioned. needless to say it didn’t work out. after two weeks of rewatching the rough cut and playing over it i handed the thing in for approval. i thought they’d hit me back, tell me what they like, what they don’t like, i’d rework and it’ll be a wrap. two months pass and i happen to see the movie is coming out in a day or something like that. no email was returned. so i had 17 minutes of music and no movie to put them on.
so i decided to conduct a little thought experiment for those who are interested. listen to the soundtrack and try imagining a movie that would fit these tracks. id like to hear everything you think of if you come up with something. you can rearrange the tracks, take tracks out and even shoot a short film and use the whole thing.
the endlesss album is coming along pretty slowly but surely. god bless yall have a nice day!

the ever-expanding list
when i started writing music i was afraid to say i was inspired by radiohead or bon iver, because i was sure that i was just ripping them off and a lot of the magic would be gone if people knew where i was stealing from. since this second album im writing doesn’t really have any imitations of other songs like “day sleeper”, i am confident enough to share the list of the most inspirational albums i have heard so far. im sure that if you listen closely you can hear them in my music and im not ashamed anymore so here they are.
-the beatles - white album
-bon iver - for emma, forever ago | 22, a million | bon iver, bon iver
-leonard cohen - im your man
-daft punk - discovery
-death grips - steroids (crouching tiger hidden gabber)
-dj koze - knock knock
-eminem - the marshall mathers lp

update
ive been working on the second endlesss album for about six months now. im pretty far along the road. i have the basic instrumentals for pretty much all of the tracks and ive been putting in as much as possible in them, so they can sit with me and when the time comes, ill cut the fluff out. i want to write the "beautiful dark twisted fantasy" of alternative music, so every song on it is more intricate than any song off of day sleeper. the lyrics for the first time have a story they revolve around and the album has a defined three act structure. this shit sounds wild as fuck so im excited.

i said it was for school and they let me film myself walking around in a gallery. i was absolutely certain that as soon as i asked permission, i would be kicked out of the building but the people were cool with it. this is a callback to when i started getting into art because i had nothing going for me personalitywise, thus being locked in a loop in a gallery. also the story is true.

the first song i ever wrote became the last song on the album, mainly because im good at thinking of how something will end, before i know how it starts or gets there. this concludes the song cycle and portrays that one time i watched snow melt down this steep street when i was over at my grandpas. peaceful at last. a send-off for this era of my life. i learned how to talk to people, maintain relationships with girls, keep friends and make music (to an extent).
so far, so good.

this one is about feeling something after a long time of feeling nothing. i went out on the terrace and i saw the stars, which is rare because i live in a big city. for some weird reason i became super-aware of my surroundings and i finally reverted to my old self. “black lights” and this were just some titles i liked, but then the ideas behind them fell into place.  this was the first song which i produced. i think it sounds cool.

at a certain point in my first relationship, when shit was going south and turning toxic, the girl i was with and me started playing the blame game with all of our problems. she blamed me and i blamed her. this is a sort of bloodletting about that whole period. my fav song so far.

when i had nervous breakdowns i would blast weird but rhythmic music and shake until i stopped feeling stress. it was the best way to set myself on fire.

here im lost in the world inside my eyelids. trees with metal bark, infinite towers of salt, ash in hurricanes. all the good stuff. this is how the next album is probably going to feel.

another weird thing i did when i wanted to be alone was go to a party, convince myself i was in the mood, then getting piss drunk and realizing that i was so not in the mood. i then floated home and looked at my phone until i went to sleep.

with this the reclusive side of the record whips itself into motion. on genius i left the lyrics blank, because the song is about losing yourself in the vast sea that is the internet, and the lyrics themselves are lost too. the internet is a therapy tool for those who know how to use it properly.

this one’s the chorus from “slide” by calvin harris and frank ocean. also this is the first melody i ever wrote about two or three days after i touched my piano for the first time. i lost my virginity and for the first few months sex was the most amazing thing in my life, but after that all i was left with were raging hormones and mental instability. dont lose your virginity at 15.

the first track on day sleeper finds me copying fleet foxes’ ragged wood, but trying to make it more anthemic with every brass and synth i could cram in. the whole song’s about me being a bit scared to try this music thing. i thought it was awkward at first, then i found it tolerable, and finally now i actually like my stuff. learning to like my own voice took so much rewiring of my brain that now i can sing in front of my friends without dying. the album ends and starts with the same passage. very prog.
