Basically, cavities are caused by the bacteria living in our mouths. The most common culprit is called streptococcus mutans. You usually get these motherfuckers early in childhood from typically a parent - could be from a parent feeding you with their own spoon or from a kiss on the mouth etc, any contact that will transfer saliva can also carry bacteria. The first three years are the most important, after that, the risk of the infection is lessened if I recall right.

Now, once in your mouth the bacteria will use any carbohydrates you consume for their own food, but they mostly they just really like regular sugar.

The cavities themselves are caused by the acid produced as a result of the bacteria eating that sugar.

In other words, little guys living in your mouth fucking love sugar and once they get it, will start trashing the place.

For anyone unfamiliar, Pierre Poilievre is the candidate for the Conservative Party of Canada and he has a strong track record of anti-abortion, anti-woman, anti-trans voting and rhetoric.

His own little manual talks about taking away trans rights, including gender affirming care for youths and not allowing trans people in bathrooms/sports teams/etc. (p.24) He also supports taking away rights from the "Canadian Human Rights Commission and Canadian Human Rights Tribunal to regulate, receive, investigate, or adjudicate complaints regarding second 13 of the Human Rights Act" (p.6).

His track record in regards to talking about women include talking about their "biological clocks" ticking down, and other frequent, strange and disturbing phrases about women.

Any and all of his plans related to health care, workers rights, and economic issues are all extremely vague, talking about "necessary fees" and "necessary procedures" without stating what those actually are. Do not be mistaken, it is vague on purpose. Conservatives are avid pushers for privatized health care, exploiting workers, and protecting landlords.

Despite what some of his manual says in regards to abortion and other human rights, his voting and advocacy track records state otherwise. In short, this is a man that can and will become Donald Trump 2.0 if elected. My friends' and my own lives are on the line this election. PLEASE PLEASE learn how to vote strategically in your area and get out and vote!

Miksi kannattaa äänestää?

Viime vuosien aikana äänestysprosentti on ollut Suomessa hyvin pieni ja syitä voi varmasti löytää monesta eri paikkaa. Joitakin äänestäminen ei kiinnosta, toiset eivät koe äänensä vaikuttavan, jotkut saattavat vain unohtaa ja joskus ihmiseltä voi puuttua henkilöllisyyden todistamiseen tarvittava lippulappu. On olemassa myös tahoja, jotka eivät halua esimerkiksi nuorten äänestävän, koska se saattaisi vavisuttaa heidän valta-asemaansa, jonka ainakin itse uskon vahvasti myös siihen miksei Suomessa ole otettu 16 vuoden äänestysikärajaa vielä käyttöön, vaikka asiasta on painettu jo vuosia.

Äänestämättömyys on johtanut myös siihen, ettei joillakin paikkakunnilla ole ollenkaan vasemmisto­puolueita ja valtuuston päätökset ovat menneet yksipuolisesti läpi, joka ei ole minun mielestäni kovinkaan demokraattista. Toimivassa demokratiassa ja hyvinvoivassa yhteiskunnassa tarvitsemme myös eriäviä ideoita jo ihan vain kehityksen vuoksi.

Itse koen äänestämisen kansalaisvelvollisuutena ja oikeutena. Oma ehdokkaani ei ole aina päässyt vaikuttamaan, mutta antamani ääni on myös ääni puolueelle ja esimerkiksi omassa kunnassani puolueeni olisi saanut lisäpaikan vain 50 lisä-äänellä ja monissa kunnissa valtuustopaikka voi olla vielä pienemmästä, jopa yhdestä äänestä, kiinni. Keskustellessani muiden ihmisten kanssa olen usein yrittänyt painottaa sitä, etten välitä siitä ketä he äänestävät vaikka olenkin ehdokkaana, vaan haluan heidän äänestävän sopivaa ehdokasta oman itsensä vuoksi.

Miksi äänestää?

Lyhyesti: Koska sinun äänelläsi on oikeasti merkitystä!

Äänestämisen vaikutus voi näkyä erityisesti pienemmissä kunnissa, mutta omalla äänellä on väliä myös suuremmissa kunnissa. Jos olet kokenut ikinä kuntasi/alueesi tarvitsevan kehitystä jossakin asiassa, vaikkapa ihan vain pride-liputuksesta tai olet saanut seurata sosiaali- ja terveyspalveluiden alasajoa, niin äänestämisen kautta pääset vaikuttamaan tulevaan päätöksentekoon ja arkeen.

Äänestämättä jättäminen on vähän kuin antaisi äänensä sellaiselle puolueelle, joka ei todellakaan aja omaa etuasi. Kuntavaaleissa pienikin puolue tai yksittäinen ehdokas voi vaikuttaa moneen, jonka vuoksi äänestäminen kannattaa.

Haluatko lähikirjastoon laajempia palveluita? Äänestä.

Haluatko enemmän tekemistä kuntaasi? Äänestä.

Haluatko maksuttomia matalankynnyksen mielenterveyspalveluita? Äänestä.

Haluatko että kuntasi tiet sopivat niin pyöräilijöille kuin kävelijöillekin? Äänestä.

Mitä jos en löydä juuri oikeaa ehdokasta?

Ehdokkaan kohdalla ei kannata etsiä 100% täydellisyyttä, koska todennäköisesti kukaan ei sitä ole. En ole aina itsekään täysin samaa mieltä puoleeni kanssa, mutta koen Vasemmiston olevan lähimpänä ajatusmaailmaani ja jokaisen puolueen sisään mahtuu paljon erilaisia ääniä. Tärkeintä on että ehdokkaalla (ja hänen puoluellaan) on tarpeeksi samanlaisia ajatuksia.

Äänestäminen ei vie paljoa aikaa ja ymmärrän, että joillekin se voi siitä huolimatta tuntua vaikealta vaikkapa ahdistuksen vuoksi. Tämän takia mukaansa voi pyytää vaikka kaverin tai useamman, jolloin koko kaveriporukka pääsee käyttämään äänioikeuttaan.

A Wizard of Earthsea: A Graphic Novel by Ursula K. Le Guin, Adapted and illustrated by Fred Fordham. Clarion Books, 2025. 9780063285767.

A Wizard of Earthsea is my favorite book. After seeing the live-action disaster (I think it was made for SYFY) and the animated adaptation which is, in my opinion, Miyazaki's only terrible movie, I was worried about the graphic novel adaptation. But I was also hopeful because Fordham's graphic novel adaptation of To Kill A Mockingbird was so good. Theo Downs-Le Guin's addressed my concerns, and Fordham's version won me over immediately not because it's exactly like what I always pictured in my mind, but because it feels like Fordham is sharing what's in his. And it's beautiful.

And yes, most of the folks in this version are shades of brown, as in Ursula Le Guin's original, including Sparrowhawk. His failures and his triumphs are shown in moving detail. I particularly liked the brief glimpse of the dry place where the inhabitants of Earthsea go when they die, and the pages that take place on Roke. And if you're wondering, both the dragons and the gebbeth are terrifying, each in exactly the way they're supposed to be.

I'm keeping this one on my shelf next to the one-volume Earthsea collection that Charles Vess illustrated.

This is something I’ve been thinking of lately, due to recent world events, and the misogyny is for sure coming from inside the house. Not necessarily the whole house, but there’s definitely a misogyny hotline in a few rooms here, if you get my metaphor.

Just look at the comments on any public facing social media post on the popular platforms by a woman who in anyway deviates from the accepted western norms on what a woman should be. The box is so goddamn small too, just having short hair is enough to get you called a man.

This hyper vigilant gender role enforcement absolutely applies to men too. I sometimes see women talk about how they just look at the personality, and good for you, but there are so many for whom the only accepted model for a man is just as narrow. Sometimes even more so, I’d say, especially when it comes to clothes.

”You’re problem is reading facebook comments,” you might be thinking, and you’d be absolutely right about that, but the comments just make visible the attitudes that are already there. Some women just really hate other women or if not consciously hate, at least do not value other women or see them as direct competition to be torn down. Maybe it’s the patriarchy (maybe it’s maybelline), but if they didn’t, we wouldn’t get Walmart Hitler as the president of the most powerful country in the world.

Idk, it’s exhausting. This is helping no-one.

this is going to be a generalized take, so please forgive me, but women are an underrated enforcer of femininity.

I’ve noticed this with hairdressers. multiple times I’ve gone to lady hairdressers and said “cut it all off,” and they’ve gone “hmm alright,” and basically just trimmed the split ends. meanwhile I can go to a dude and say “hey, can you make my hair slightly shorter?” and he’ll go “on it boss,” and shave me bald.

twice now, I’ve also had lady tattoo artists add pink to femme up a tattoo, despite that not being on the initial design.

god, also thinking about this brought back a memory. my mom once threw a fit because my shoes were “too masculine” (they were black women’s flats), saying that I’d upset my dad and ruin the formal event we were going to. I wore the shoes, my dad didn’t give a shit.

I dunno. it just feels like the misogyny is coming from inside the house sometimes.
