Poor Unfortunate Souls

Hello hello! My name’s Espresso ☕️

I decided to draw my favorite freaky fish folk for Mermay. I have a couple notes about the drawing:

1. No, your eyes do not deceive you, the tweels are indeed bigger than Azul. Morays tend to be bigger than octopi and even prey on them, so I wanted to reflect that.

2. I kept Azul’s glasses in merform, even though he canonically doesn’t wear them underwater, because I simply like his design better with them and because it doesn’t make sense to me how his nearsight/farsight is corrected underwater but other merfolk don’t have vision changes from water to land? I know sight is different underwater, but wouldn’t the tweels also be affected? ARE they affected? I’m digging too deeply into this now.

3. This is a multi-media piece, made from construction paper, spray paints, alcohol based markers, and acrylic paint markers (as well as some shadow effects from picsart). If anyone wants the brands/links to what I use, let me know and I’ll make a post!

Also, someone remind me to stop drawing at an angle and to check my sketches before inking because Jade’s eyes being ever so slightly off is driving me insane 😭 And since it’s traditional I have no way to just lasso and move it 😩😩😩
