âThe Jian, also known as the bird who shares wings. Only possesses one wing. Unless two people lean on each other and act like one, theyâre incapable of flight. Theyâre imperfect, incomplete creatures.â
"But, for some reason, their way of life struck me as profoundly beautiful.....It was beautiful, I felt."
áŠ
...How do you explain to a child that their parents have just been murdered...?
...A seven year old child no less...
...Do you sugar coat it...?
...Or do you tell them the horrible truth...?
...Do you lie and say that they are in a better place nowâŠ
...A place wyoue theyâre flying with beautiful, white wingsâŠ
...A place wyoue angels thriveâŠ
...Or do you say the five words that nobody ever wants to hearâŠÂ
âIâm sorry for your loss.â
...No one would ever want to be the person to break the news...
...But that was okay...
...Do you know why...?
...It's because you had to experience it yourself...
áŠ
My darling,
It was late at night. The moon was shining over the dark night as stripes of the luminescent light was making its way through the windows. The scenery was still. It was beautiful. Too beautiful to even be real. But not everything had to have a grim setting in a tragedy like the stories your mother would read to you. No. This was your reality. And honestly, you didn't want anything to do with it anymore.
By the time you read this, everything has changed.
The moonlight was your one and only light source as you could only see what had laid out in front of you. You were crouching behind a rather large sofa, your hands over your mouth. The screams of escaping your parent's lips were horrifying. They kept on bouncing off the walls and you already knew that those wails of pain would forever haunt your dreams. You felt your heartbeat rising faster and faster as you broke out in a cold sweat. Your eyes were practically bulging out your head as you were afraid. Afraid of what would happen if you came out of your hiding spot. Afraid of what might happen if you even let out a squeak. Afraid of the dark figure that was in your house.
I wonât be able to wake up to your beautiful smile everyday.
When it all went quiet, you turned your head to the side to see what had exactly transpired. There was a man looming over your parents. He held a knife that was dripping with thick pearls of blood. "Where is she!" he yelled. "Iâm not going to let any witnesses out of this damn house if it's the last thing I do!"
Or be able to see you on your wedding day.
"Get the hell out of my house!" your father yelled. His piercing blue eyes were gazing dangerously into the murderer's eyes. If he even did have the ability to move, there was no question he would kill the murderer with his own two hands. He would do anything to protect the only family that he had.
But I hope you know that your dad and I would do anything for you.
"Don't you even dare touch my darling!" your mother snapped with tears rolling down her face.
I hope when you're older, you can find this letter.
The man let out a *tsk* sound as the knife clattered to the floor. "Whatever," he said in a dangerously low voice. But you could tell that there was an evident smirk on his face. He grabbed the shirt collar of your father and raised him up. He gnashed his teeth together and slammed your father's head to the ground. He didnât move after that. The villain bellowed at the top of his lungs, "Iâll search every square inch of this house if I have to!â You heard the creak of the white, carpeted staircase as the murderer began walking up the stairs slowly. Once it was dead silent, you had immediately scrambled away from the sofa.
As you looked around, your throat tightened up. There on the ground were your parents. It wouldn't even matter if the ambulance had arrived because by that time, they would have already left this world.
I know it hurts to finally realize that weâre gone by the time you read this.
Your breath hitched. your motherâs beautiful, long, pink hair was laid out in a fan. Her hair and clothes were drenched in blood. Some of it had started clotting around her recent wounds. Your father's black hair that was once combed neatly was now tangled up in a rat's nest. He had stab wounds that littered his body trying to protect your mother. They were laying on the once white carpet floor as their skin tones were a sickly pale color. The red liquid was everywhere. Not only was the blood dripping down the walls, but it was splattered on the floor in a horrifying manner. But the most heart-stricken thing you saw was your parent's eyes. They looked so dull and empty to the point you couldn't bear to look at them anymore. Your mother's once sparkling sea-foam green eyes and your father's deep, ocean blue eyes were now gray. Like they had lost any emotion connected to them in the world. You saw them barely move their fingers as they both tried to cling onto the last threads of life.
But it won't matter.
YOU FELT LIKE YOU COULDN'T BREATH.
Do you know why?
The most depressing part was the fact that they didnât have the chance to name you. When holding the infant in their arms, they had a million thoughts running in their minds that were only filled with love. They had thought of a thousand dreams of what they wanted their beautiful little girl to achieve. Too bad they didnât have the chance to see what their child grew up to be.
It's because weâll be with you every step of the way.
Their names and actions would forever be engraved in your memory. If only someone could stop what was going to happen to you and the adversities you would be forced to face.Â
Our ghostly fingertips will forever be connected to you, heart, mind, and soul.
It truly was such a shame for them to have died such a young age and quirkless as well. No wonder you felt so helpless, you felt like you were nothing. You felt like a zero, like you were worthless.Â
You are worth so much.
You. Had. Nothing.Â
Donât feel grieved by what you couldnât save.
If you had been a bit stronger, you could have saved them from this cruel fate. Your stomach was doing flips and front handsprings. You felt like you were about to puke. You had to get out of here, fast. You didn't want to see the sickly pale corpses of your parents.
If you ever miss us, call our names.
"M-mom? D-dad?"
If you can learn to do just that, you will be okay.
You didnât know what to do other than to drop down onto your knees and intertwin your small fingers with theirs. Your lips began trembling as clear tears were about to flow down your face.
Donât hide away.
You tried not to cry. You didnât deserve to.
Never hold back your tears, you're trying so hard to be strong.
But as that same action replayed in your head, you couldn't hold it back anymore. "P-please... D-don't leave me... This is a joke right...?" You gripped harder. "...so please..." You inhaled a deep breath as you snapped your head to look at the ceiling, your beautiful wide eyes letting the tears cascade down your face. "...wake...up..."
I love you.
"...Darling..?" You lowered your head towards your mother. "...Darling... are you here...?" you mother asked. Her sweet as honey voice was now dry and cracked as it wavered in the air.Â
Do you know why?
"Ye-yeah, I'm here, Mom..." You said with a shaky voice.Â
Itâs because.
"I just- I just want to let you know that we love you so much, darling. You have always been the light of our lives. And I know you're such a bright girl. I'm just- I'm just so sad that I'm never gonna see you when you grow older..."
You.
Your heart sank to the bottom of your chest. "This can't be happening-"
are.
She lifted up her hand as she gently caressed your face and wiped your tears away. She had put on a small smile yet, it held so much pain. "Hey, hey, hey. As long as I get to see you one last time, I already know that I can finally rest happy... Be the hero you want to be... And⊠I love you so much..."
my.
And then, she went limp.
everything,
The perfect wings that had once adorned your body were now ripped from your body as they would forever leave a wounded battle scar. They were your wings, and then they were ripped apart from your future in a blink of an eye. There was a hole in your heart that you couldn't cover up. But one thingâs for sure, you have finally found your name; it's...
Absolute Zero.
áŠ
Bursting through the doors, you could never fathom the thought of any innocent people dying. From that day on, you wanted to be a hero. A melancholic smile appeared as you recollected your memories. You wanted to do what you couldnât have done for your parents. You honestly didnât know where you were going. All of that didnât matter anymore because you just ran; with you tears overflowing until all you saw was darkness. The sting of the snow sticking onto you feet was just enough for you to stop moving.
It was such a shame that you didnât notice the taller figure watching your every move.
As he aimed the tranquilizer at your neck, he shot it. He bounced off of the dark tree. He smiled painfully as he was pleased to say for a fact that you were unconscious. Bringing his mouth close to the communication device he only said one thing.Â
âPhase 1 is complete.â
áČŠ
The tall figure reached down and you in his arms. The touch of your skin was starting to get colder and colder with each passing second. He traced the features of your face with an indescribable look. He looked solemnly at you, as if he was recalling something from his past. You were only a child. He bit his lip and positioned his eyes to view the night above him. Sighing to himself, he slowly carried your unconscious body towards the center of the forest, where you were originally running into.Â
The silhouette of the tall trees surrounded him. A rush of wind and snow blew through his hair, he felt a shiver run up his spine. He closed his eyes out of instinct while holding the girl closer to his chest. As he peered around through the dark night, he had come to notice a very distinct concrete square. Piercing eyes stared down at the potential gateway.
Now stepping onto a concrete square, there was a certain symbol embedded onto the surface. It was a zero with a line slashing the number diagonally, left to right. As he rested his hand directly onto the emblem, he only whispered one thing, âCode:1016.â It glowed a beautiful blue hue. Suddenly a rush of azure and green colors came to life. They blasted upwards to the sky, the colors that had mingled together could put the northern lights to shame. When the light died down, you both were gone.
áŠ
And there he was. 1016 stood on a clear launchpad that looked to be used for astrology and rockets. The pad looked to be strikingly similar to the hues of colors that the figure had experienced only a few minutes ago. The colors had a mind of their own as they began thrashing around wildly until they cooled down into a more peaceful state. Though, it wouldnât matter because the tensile strength of the glass was unreal because it never let the colors out.
1016 looked around in his surroundings and it never failed to take his breath away. Above him was a transparent dome which led him to see the galactic hues up close and personal. It was almost as if the barrier wasnât there and he could have just brushed his fingertips against the stars. The floor was made of tungsten or some other metal he couldnât identify. Tubes that were filled to the brim with all the shades of the color wheel, ranging from green, blue, and purple. They glistened and glowed with sparks of light that appeared to be stars in each individual one. Black wires were everywhere, interconnecting within each other. But the one thing that he noticed was the hospital bed that laid in the corner. There was a recurring aesthetic of galaxy colors, tubes, and glass. But that was no different. The hospital bed was big with a clear, thin cylinder surrounding it. The top and the bottom that sealed the ends of the chute were both made of connected metals with an abundance of buttons on each side. A pillow rested peacefully against the mattress accompanied by delicate, white blankets.
Suddenly a soothing voice asked,âDid you get her?â
1016 nodded his head. âYes, I did.â
A relieved chuckle was to be heard. And there he was. There was another young man sitting on a chair looking through a grand telescope. It was enormous. A tense silence filled the air until 1016 took a deep breath. âCanât we think of another plan⊠You know one that doesnât involve her?â As soon as those words fell out of his mouth there was a dangerous aura that radiated from the teen that was now standing in front of 1016.
An airy laugh left his lips until he exploded.Â
âDo you still donât understand?!â he demanded. There was a menacing glint in his eyes. He gritted his teeth together while gripping the 1016âs wrist tightly and dragged him to a telescope. Pushing him down into the chair, he said, âLook.â As the teenager looked to the dark night, he was absolutely spell bound by what he saw. It was absolutely beautiful. Splotches of purples, blues and pinks filled the nights until they were all mushed together in a brand new color. Stars were swirling around as they brightened luminously. It was perfect, too perfect. That is, until he spotted it. It was a meteorite hurtling towards them.
âNow do you understand?!â he yelled. He pulled 1016 away from the telescope and forced his head to look up at the sky. He pointed to the meteor and fumed, âIn about a few years or so, that fucker is literally about to obliterate the entire Earth! And do you know who has to pay up for our screw ups?! Us, you idiot! And that includes me.â The male pinched the bridge of his nose until he dragged his legs to sit in his chair. An inaudible âsorryâ whimpered out of the once furious man. He leaned his back against the cool metal chair with his palms pressed against his eyes. âWhat are we going to doâŠ?â
1016 was shocked by the sudden outburst. In all his life when working with his partner, named 1004, he had almost always kept a cool composure. Sure, he would occasionally crack a few jokes or two, but he would never blow a fuse. As a result, 1016âs stomach churned with uncertainty.
1004âs gaze was cast down. âLook, 1016,â he started to grieve. âIt's been around 20,000 years since you fell from grace and when I got banished.â There was a long pause. âWe did something that we werenât supposed to do. And this, this is the punishment for our actions.â A deep breath was to be heard from 1004 as he continued. âBut you know the deal. In our punishment, weâre supposed to protect this planet, but because of our actions, we had most of our powers stripped!â 1004 groaned. âI mean- if we fail to protect this planet, itâs really going to be over.â
1016 thought hard for a moment, trying his best to think of any possible answer. âOh-! I got it!â 1016 snapped his fingers. He grabbed 1004âs shoulder and looked him in the eye. âI know what to do but you have to trust me.â Quickly, 1016 grabbed your body and handed you to 1004. Pushing one of the buttons of the capsule he laid you on the hospital bed. He attached a gasmask to your head. On the back were numerous ports that were connected to an abundance of the same wires he saw earlier. Gripping the black wires in his hand, 1016 plug each into a very large computer.
In a flash 1016 fingers typed at an alarmingly fast pace, his eyes never leaving the keyboard. 1004 looked over at his shoulder and raised an eyebrow. âWhat are you doing this time?â
But 1016 ignored the question of his partner. âYou said that they only deleted some of our powers right? Well if you still have your time powers, I need you to stop time itself. Only for 2,000 years. This is the only way.â He looked directly at the screen that had an illuminated blue and continued. âIâm loading some data into her head. I honestly donât know how it will work, but sheâll mentally be ancients of years old, though her physical appearance wouldnât change. There are some things we have to alter though, understand?â
1004 nodded his head in agreement. 1016 grabbed a pen as well as a piece of blank paper. When he was done, 1016 slipped the paper to 1004. âAt this exact time and place, I need you to release you. This is crucial. Like I said, you need to trust me.â
áŠ
Your eyes opened.
áŠ
You were starving. The piercing internal jab that kept on stabbing your abdomen was getting severe. Living on the streets was hard. How many years have passed? Three? No, four? You had lost count after a while. You found solace in a beaten up cardboard box. It was placed in a very dark alley as there were piles of garbage growing bigger with each passing day. You had managed to survive only on the table scraps that restaurants had no use for. Using the garbage bags as pillows, you curled into a ball on your right side and you waited for the night to engulf the city whole.
If anyone thought that the days were bad, the nights were hell in comparison. Heavy gunshots echoed between the alleyways while the air smelled like liquor. There would always be blood splattered on the concrete while drunk laughs and hiccups were heard from nearby bars. Neon signs that ranged from pink to blue and even a purple appeared everywhere if someone had just simply opened their eyes. It honestly would have been comforting knowing that the darkness wasnât the only thing that consumed everything; if only the signs werenât promoting sketched out night clubs.
You really did try resting your eyes but as soon as you did so, you woke up again. But no matter how much your eyes were battling the urge to close them, you couldnât even sleep. You couldnât take it anymore. You could survive. No. You needed to survive. You would do anything to see the next sunrise, even if you did get your hands a little dirty.
You pulled yourself together, what else could you do? Taking a deep breath, you set off to the neon lit streets. As you started walking, you ran into a boy who looked a bit older than you, not by much, however. You bumped into him, fully expecting pain to follow through, but nothing happened. In fact, he seemed quite fluffy, like an enormous teddy bear, the kind you would see in those rigged carnival games.Â
âIâm so sorry!â you gasped.
But the person you ran into just smiled and waved his hand dismissively. You almost laughed because of how unreal he looked. He looked tall, though. If you had to give an estimate, your bet would be around 195 centimeters. He looked wide and friendly with his big smile touching the corners of his cheeks. It was as if the main fat animal from Studio Ghibliâs My Neighbor Totaro came to life and had sandy blonde hair.
âAre you okay?â he asked, with genuine concern overflowing from his facial expression.
Your face shamelessly heated up. He was too nice, it almost made you feel guilty for what you were about to do next. âYeah!â you grinned. And unbeknownst to you, his face had also heated up. Although the dirt and grime was muddled in your hair, it didnât take away from the shine in your eyes. He actually thought you looked⊠pretty cute, in a way. A short silence had ensued and you quickly broke the ice. âThank you for worrying about my safety,â you expressed, but then you quickly started to run in the direction you had previously gone and lazily waved your hand. âYou should go home before your parents start to worry!â
âW-Wait!â the middle schooler stuttered. âI didnât catch your name!â
You bit your lip at the sudden words. It certainly has been a long time since youâve had a friend. But, what if you scared them away because of the way you lived? You gulped and pushed those disgusting doubts away. You grinned, âYouâll know soon enough!â And with that, you ran, and you didnât look back.
áŠ
Once you were alone, you sighed. You were scared that you were going to get caught. In between the dark alleys, you sighed and leaned your back against the cold cement. You opened up a wallet, a wallet that did not belong to you. You had pickpocketed that nice middle-school boy who had tried to make sure you were okay. God, you were such a scumbag. You knew it wasnât right, but life wasnât fair. Survival of the fittest, right? That was the phrase that you had used to single-handedly justify your poor actions. You shrugged it off, youâll pay him back soon enough. As you looked at the contents of the wallet, you saw and identification photo and name of the same boy you had ran into and his home address, along withâ
â30,000 yen!â you gulped. Oh shit. You didnât need this much money to enable you to do what you needed to do tonight. You bit the inside of your cheek, you werenât going to use all of his money, just enough to help you survive this night. You smiled sadly, showing remorse for your actions as tears began to well up.
âThanks, Taishiro ToyomitsuâŠâ
áŠ
As you navigated the grimy stairs that led to the underground tunnel, you scrunched up your nose. The air smelled of grime and dried blood. It made your stomach churn and your eyes very, very unhappy. The concrete below your feet was stained with water and mold started to form on the walls. The dull lights that illuminated the tunnel looked unstable, flickering as if they were about to burst a fuse at any second. You finally reached it, the front desk. The lady looked at you with sad eyes. Probably wondering why a young girl such as yourself would be in a place like this.
âMay I help you?â she said.
âYeah,â you said bitterly, but you tried your best not to show it. She didnât do anything to you, so why should you take your anger out on her? Save it for the fight, you always remind yourself over and over again. âIâm here to compete, actually.â
âO-Oh,â the lady spluttered. âWhatâs your quirk?â
âYou canât turn me away,â you said apologetically. âThis ring allows anyone of any age to compete. And, unfortunately, I donât have one.â
âN-No! Sorry, thatâs not what I meant. I just mean that there is an entry fee of 10,000 yen! Iâm just not sure if someone as young as yourself can come up with that kind of cash-â
But before the last could say anything, you slided the demanded amount of money (thanks to Taishiro) on the cheap, plastic table she was sitting behind. She counted the money and nodded for you to go in.
You gulped, half terrified for what was to come next. You were about to fight for money in an underground martial arts ring,
áŠ
Your duffle bag had already been waiting for you in the womenâs locker room, you just needed to grab the bag with your belongings. You got ready in the dimly lit, unsanitized bathroom. Your long hair was tied back into a ponytail and you put on the rest of your uniform. It consisted of loose parachute pants that had hung by your hips, a sports bra, and a tight fitted black shirt. No quirks, and no armor to protect yourself, this was definitely going to be a long night. You shoved Taishiroâs wallet in your bag with the clothes you wore. You gripped your towel and your water bottle and pushed the bathroom door open. You shuffled through the packed stadium with your head feeling light. You knew that in the shady parts of the big city, people paid to see fighters dual it out in illegal rings. In addition to this, you also knew that fighters could enter by paying a rather hefty fee, but if they made a good enough show, they would also get paid a rather hefty fee. In the years you fought, you made a name for yourself. You werenât the best by any means, but you were⊠respected among your peers. They were a lot older than you, and they knew that you didnât have anything. No job, no education, no family, no quirk, and no future. During practice when you sparred against them, they didnât hold back at all. They didnât need to because you could get up by yourself. After a brutal beat down, theyâd buy you snacks as a little token of their appreciation. And youâd graciously take it. You always did.
Now, you were watching the fight that had unfolded in front of you. You sat in the front row, the ring itself was a lot lower than where the audience sat. It was a safety precaution for if any fighter had a dangerous quirk, at least the difference in height between the ring and the stadium could offer protection. The element of the ring would change, it would offer a water based zone, earth based, you could name it all; anything to keep their patrons hooked. As you gazed below, your cheek resting on your forearm which was in turn resting on the railing. Although the cheers were so loud that you could have sworn that your ear drums would burst, you managed to block them out. You had other things to worry about. You looked at the one victor that had stood proudly. And you looked at the victim with such sadness, he was obliterated. Blood gushed from heavy hitting wounds with a black eye to match. You grimaced. That was going to be you.
áŠ
âAnd now!â the announcer boomed. âWhat you have all been waiting for. The darling of this ring! Although she may look small in stature, I promise you that she kicks one hell of a punch! Give it up for⊠Honeysuckle!â
Cheers erupted from the crowd and claps filled the air. You smiled ever so graciously and you waved a hand in the air, pretending that this crowd wonât know what your bloodied face will look like in the span of twenty minutes. You had to pretend. You were good at pretending. So, you pretended that everything was fine. You looked up to see your opponent's face. He was a large, muscular man. A torn up wife-beater was tightly worn on his body with black cargo pants to match. And when you looked at his face, his right eye was completely white with a nasty scar that made its way from the right side of his forehead, through his eye, and ended at the corner of his lip. And your heart dropped. You studied all of the opponents in the databases this ring had to offer. And his quirk was nothing to sneeze at. It was shock absorption. Everytime you hit, he could hit harder. Everytime you kicked, he kicked harder. This felt like a sick joke. You were only a teenager for fucks sake, a teenager living out in the streets trying to make ends meet. You were angry at the organizers of your event. You were quirkless trying to face upon a stone, cold fighting machine. Your mouth ran dry, âOh shit.â
âReady! Three! Two! One! Fight!â
The man made no hesitation to strike first. He threw a right hook at your face and you dodged, only by a millisecond to lose. You gasped, you didnât expect him to be this fast. While he was still fixed in his position, you gathered up the strength to kick him square in the ribs. It was powerful and you could hear the audience mourn in favor of him. You looked up and he only paid you a sickening grin. He harshly gripped your foot that had kicked him and he spun you around like a rotating top. You felt the air whipping your hair carelessly until he let go. Your back had hit the wall of the ring, hard. You felt yourself coughing up blood and you saw double. However, your opponent didnât spare you any mercy as he kicked your ribs and you have sworn you felt your spine crack.Â
âGet up!â you pleaded with yourself.
âGet up!â
âGet up!â
âGoddamnit! Get up, Absolute Zero!â
Unbeknownst to you, he had grabbed a hold of a boulder. You felt the shadow looming over you and your eyes were blown wide open. He was about to smash your skull into a pulp. âAre they even allowed to do this!?â you screeched. And with every fiber of your being, you did get up. With your hands planted on the ground, you pushed your torso from the ground up and moved your legs in a windmill fashion and kicked his legs with such an unwavering force that he fell down, boulder in hand. And you did it, you did manage to get up on your feet. But, he didnât like that at all. Unfortunately, he recovered quickly as he started to bolt at you.
âYou think youâre so cocky, huh?â he spat, lifting you in the air by gripping your collar.
You must have had a death wish because before you could stop yourself, you shot back, âYeah, a cocky brat that knows how to use mouthwash.âÂ
He wiped the smug grin off your face by giving you a punch square in the jaw and on your eye too. Pain coursed through your body, but you werenât done yet. You moistened your lips and with your core strength you swung your legs and crossed them over the arm he was grabbing you with. With one fell swoop, you rotated your body on top and his back hit the floor. While on the dirt of the ring, you knew you had to act fast. In all the years you have been fighting, you knew that you couldnât win by brute strength alone. Endless night you have been studying about the pressure points located in the bodies of humans. Everyone has a constant flow of energy that allows them to use their quirks. Once you block that energy flow, you block their quirks, temporarily. It was this small piece of knowledge that was going to make you win the battles to come. Without a second to lose, you positioned your hands in order to make a certain formation. Your pinky and ring fingers were held down by your thumbs leaving your middle in pointer fingers extended. You jabbed the pressure points located in his neck, shoulders, arms, legs, and chest. The stadium soon fell silent. As your opponent came to his senses, he groggily tried to get up, although his eyes looked tired and clouded. He tried to throw a right hook at your face, but you dodged. You grinned, his movements were significantly slowed and it felt like fighting a drunk. Slowly breathing in then out, you enacted a front handspring and finally jumped so high as to see the top of your opponentâs head and you used a hook kick that took him down from the neck where your leg made contact. He fell, and you were victorious.
Everyone applauded you and you offered them a lazy grin. This was the first fight that you werenât beaten into a pulp. You were escorted out of the ring with a genuine smile plastered across your face. You went to the bathroom and took a hot shower and cleaned yourself up. It felt like a reward in itself. You changed into a baggy crew neck and equally baggy cargo pants as well. Your hair was still wet, but you couldnât care less. As you looked at your complexion in the mirror, you touched your jaw gently and you hissed with pain. Although you won, you didnât feel like a winner. You felt like a girl who had escaped getting killed on the field and was given a head splitting migraine.
Putting on your shoes and clutching your duffle bag, you left the bathroom for a final time. You met the lady at the front desk; the same location in which you had given her the entry fee. She smiled ear to ear once she saw you.
âIâm so glad that you made it out okay!â she beamed. âI watched the footage and you truly are the darling of this ring! I made a bet on you because I knew you could do it!â
âThank you,â you smiled shyly, âIâm glad that you didnât lose your money.â
âAre you kidding me? Iâm glad that you made it out in one piece! Which reminds me!â You saw her lean down and grip a safe that was hidden from others in plain sight. She placed it on the desk and opened it using a combination. âYou award for tonight!â With that, she pushed a check for 550,000 yen to you.
You couldnât believe your eyes. â550,000 yen?â Your voice wavered, this was ten times the amount that you were supposed to earn for this one night. âI-Is this a joke?â
The lady looked at you with concern. âN-No! Itâs all authentic darling. I actually spoke with some of your friends that train with you. And they say that they want you to have a better life than this.â She sighed, âTheir words not mine, but they say that you arenât very good at hiding that you are homeless. Since your first day at fighting, they were actually matching the amount of money you earned and putting a deposit in a separate account once they think the money they will give you can support you, for fighting for good, or something like that. They overheard that you had dreams of becoming a hero and they wanted to help you reach that threshold.â
As the lady babbled on and on, your voice began to crack and you couldnât hold back your tears any longer. The years of busting your ass trying to survive off in the streets, even opting to sleep in public restrooms for safetyâit was all going to end today. âI-I donât know what to say.â
âYou could say thank you.â
You heard a familiar voice and you whipped your head to see your friends who you fought with standing at the end of the tunnel. You gripped the check in your hand and you raced toward the people you could have called your family. You jumped and hugged everyone that was there. Your hug was filled with gratitude and love for the people there. Heartbeats mingled into one unwavering rhythm.
âWhy would you guys do this?â you asked with such happiness in your eyes.
âBecause!â one of your friends said. âYouâre too damn young and too damn kind to be living like this. You deserve the whole world for making it out this far.â He looked at you with tired eyes that had seen the world for decades now. âWe all want to see you thrive, and smile like thereâs not a care in the world. We all want you to make it to U.A. and become a hero!â
Now, you were just a mess. Ugly crying was to be heard along with sniffles and smiles along the way. âI donât know what to say other thanâŠ
Thank you!â
As you ran outside of the underground tunnel, you heard one of your friends joke around and say, âIf we donât see you on the big screens, we want our money back!â
You laughed and waved. âDonât worry! Iâll be sure to give it back with added interest!â
áČŠ
As you gazed at the high-end houses that stood neatly next to each other, you walked and looked at the addresses that could potentially match the one you were looking for. Then you saw him. For what you could assume to be his bedroom light, you could have sworn the boy you had met earlier had walked briskly past the window. It looked as if he was pacing back and forth frantically. Your shoes pattered against the sidewalk until you reached the front door of his house. His room was on the second floor and you cursed. Although you were good at hand to hand combat, you werenât good at climbing peopleâs walls Rapunzel style. You were, unfortunately, not Flynn Rider. As you scaled the wall silently, as to not wake up any of the neighbors, you managed to find a resting stop under the presumed Taishiros window sill which was a minor roof that jutted out from the main body of the house. As you stood up on your tippy toes, you saw Taishiro pacing back and forth in a hurry. It looked like he was on the phone with his mom.
âI-I donât know where I put it! Iâm so screwed!â
The pit of guilt in your stomach just sank lower. God, you were just a selfish jackass werenât you. Shaking your head, to get rid of those thoughts, you carefully opened his window once you saw his retreating figure head to another room. And carefully placed his wallet on the window sill. You heard his footsteps come closer and closer and you began to panic. You lost your balance and fell onto the ground. Thank god a rose bush was there to help the fall, not. You groaned but then as soon as you remembered your current situation, you ran as fast as you could into the moonlight.
áŠ
âYou know what, I think my teacher likes me, maybe sheâll be more lenient-â but Taishiroâs voice stopped to a halt. He looked at his window. He⊠He never remembered opening it up at this hour. âHold on, Iâll call you backâŠâ he said hesitantly and hung up the phone before the person on the other end could say anything. As he started to walk closer and closer to the window, he found the wallet he had been looking for, the wallet that made him nearly lose his mind over.
Opening the wallet, he saw a note tucked in the clear, plastic protector allocated for his middle school ID photo. It read:
âhey! absolute zero here! i just wanted to say that you lost your wallet somewhere and thank god there was an address along with your shining face :D hereâs my number if you wanna talk (xxx)-xxx-xxxxâ
Taishiroâs face burst into flames and he looked outside to see if you were there. You werenât, but nonetheless, he grinned. As he counted the money in his wallet once more, he noticed the extra wadded up 1000 yen bill that was to be seen between the stacks of 10,000 yen bills. And he gave a boisterous laugh that echoed in the halls of his home.

ever since a young age, you had always learned how to keep your mouth shut and your head down to avoid conflicts. life wasn't fair and you knew this fact had been proven time and time again. you were nothing but quirkless and the people around you looked down at you with shame written in their eyes. if felt like you let them down without even trying. but, what if all of this could change? on one fateful day, something happened. It wasn't bad by any means at all. in fact, it was absolutely extraordinary.
you were always considered an underdog, but little did they know, you had already won.

SFX: CODE : 002 Darling in the Franxx
ââč
You desperately wanted to sleep, but your eyelids resisted. The ticking of the mounted clock on your bedroom wall was practically mocking you at this point. Once you tried to close your eyes, the repetitive noises disrupted your train of thought. Boiling with frustration, you finally smacked the pillow over your ears, trying so desperately to muffle the noises but to no avail. After a couple of minutes, you gave in, and decided to stay up just a little longer. Why not? It wasnât the first time you had to deal with sleepless nights.
As you sat up, carelessly brushing the sheets off of your chest, your eyes were trained on the constellations that littered the sky. They were so very far away, and yet, you outstretched your arm as if to grab ahold of them. You unclasped your hand, and lo and behold, nothing was revealed. Your heart sank. Seriously, what did you think would happen?
You gazed helplessly; you wanted to get closer to the starsâwhether if it was one meter or a billion kilometers from the groundâyouâd do anything to touch the universe. You wanted to be up close and personal, close enough to drink the moon itself. You were not born to be a watcher. You bit the inside of your cheek and started to think. Suddenly, you grinned at the idea you conjured up. Masamichi would skin you alive if he caught you sneaking out of your dorm and let alone outside of curfew hours. But, maybe if he caught more than one person, he wouldnât have the energy to skin more than one person now would he? Your devilish smile began to reveal teeth.
As you so gingerly began to peel the rest of your covers off your body, you began to extend your feet towards the ground. The cold, wooden floors sent shivers up your spine; but, you simply couldn't care less. Your heart was beating a million miles an hour as you slowly tiptoed to the door, vigilant as to not make a wrong move and bring upon a wretched creak. You opened your door to reveal the dim lights that lit the corridor; and, you so decidedly made your way to one of your most beloved friendâs room. Double checking the name displayed next to his door, you inhaled sharply and entered.
You rolled your eyes as you finally got a closer look at your friend. The spring breeze from his opened window not only blew the transparent curtains framing the glass, but it tousled his hair gently. Half of his sheets lay neglected on the floor while the other half werenât even covering his body. You huffed out a silent laugh; the way his limbs were spread took the term âstarfishâ to shame. Drool had started to dry at the corner of his lips and his eyes were screwed shut. He looked just as content as they came. And, you couldnât help yourself from smiling. The pads of your hand softly touched the side of his cheek. And suddenly, he groggily opened his eyes.Â
âHanahaki?â he croaked.
âHey, yourself, Gojo,â you said as your expression softened.
You saw Gojo rub his eyes, just to make sure he was fully understanding the scene that unfolded in front of him. You sat on the edge of his bed while leaning dangerously close to his lips, just a few inches. And with no shame, Gojo wanted to close that gap between the two of you. With your thumb gently brushing his cheek, his breath hitched. In your entire friendship, he had never seen you act so⊠intimate with himâor even gentle, always preferring crude remarks that invoked his laugh. He could have sworn that this was a hallucination. But, you looked too real, too ethereal for this to only be an illusion.
âAm I dreamingâŠ?â Gojo wondered. He felt as though he was locked in a haze; but even so, he wouldnât mind staying if it meant seeing your face for longer.
âWhat?â you answered.
âI mean, Iâve always envisioned this happening between us. But, I never fully expected it to happen.â
âWhat are you talking about, Gojo? And, yes,â you smiled while looking visually confused, âI am very real.â Though, your look of uncertainty melted into a genuine smile.
Gojo widened his eyes; and for a moment, he choked on air. A coughing fit ensued and he fell face first onto the ground. Your heart skipped a beat and you whipped your head to the closed door; just gazing at the trail of lights at the bottom that emitted from the outside. You prayed to see the lack of shadows move across the corridor. Your teacher would kill you if he saw you in the room with the opposite gender.Â
You cursed, âHow do those splinter taste, you fucking idiot?â
âAnd sheâs backâŠâ Gojo dejectedly thought. âActually, they taste amazing, why donât you have a try, huh?â he hissed quietly.
Without hesitation, he pulled your hand and you too landed face first on the floor. âOw!â you groaned. You turned your head to face Gojo who was staring back at you. Both of your cheeks were cooled by the floor. âDo you know youâve ruined the skincare that was absorbing into my skin?â
âYeah, well,â Gojo started to say, âNow you know what it feels like because youâve just ruined mine!â
You grinned at your blue-eyed friend. Still the same old Gojo. As the two of you readjusted onto his bed, you were both sitting down comfortably while facing each other. You played with the hem of your flowing T-shirt. âI wanna go stargazing tonight,â you said, your voice so quiet that you could hear a pin drop.
âStargazing?â Gojo repeated.
âYeah,â you grinned. âIâm sure your beloved teacher, Masamichi, wouldnât mind. Youâre his favorite student, right?â
Gojo rubbed his chin thoughtfully. âI guess you are right, I am actually his star pupil,â he bragged.
âAll the more reasons we should go since youâre our safety net,â you confirmed.
âWhere would you want to go?â
You paused, searching for a certain location in the back of your brain. âI think⊠I know a placeâŠâ you said hesitantly.
âCan you fly us there?â Gojo asked.
âWhat? Why do I have to get us there?â
âBecause, youâre the one who is so insistent we go there. Itâs like a date, Hanahaki. Normally, whoever initiates the date first most likely pays,â Gojo cheekily said.
âWell, I am so glad that I wonât be going on any dates with you sometime soon, huh?â you shot back. You groaned, âDo I have to fly? My feathers make a messâŠâ
âYeah,â Gojo agreed. âBut think of it this way, it has been a long time since youâve stretched them out. And plus, you know you only feel free once you are flying yourself. You told me this, remember?â
A champagne pink bled across the bridge of your nose. âYou remember? Iâve only told you that once?â
âWell yeah!â your friend smiled bashfully. âOf course I remember, why wouldnât I? I like listening to you. And uhm.â He paused for a second, almost as if he was preparing to say something more vulnerable. âI also think youâ I mean your wings look pretty.â
âPretty?â you questioned verbatim.
âDivine, even,â Gojo corrected.
You let a faux groan escape your lips. âFine,â you drawled. âLetâs go fly.â
ââč
As the two of you crawled out of Gojoâs bedroom window, your bare feet landed on the grass that encapsulated the whole field. Unbeknownst to your friend, however, he couldnât see that you were struggling to cut the openings necessary to spread your wings. âHey, Gojo,â you started to say. âDo you think you could rip my clothes for meâŠ?â
Uhm. What? There was no way in hell you didnât know what you were doing. Gojoâs face turned beet red and he was suddenly thanking the blacked out lamp posts that Masamichi had refused to pay electricity for. It used to be a nuisance, but now, it was a blessing in disguise. âUhm⊠What?â Gojo reiterated.
Now your face was beet red. âFor my wings! Gojo!â you hissed out of embarrassment.
âR-Right!â Gojo wanted to kick himself in the face. The Great Gojo himself wouldnât yield to anyone; and yet, why were you making him so dangerously weak in the knees? As he approached the back of your baggy t-shirt, he could feel his mouth getting dry. Although his heart was thumping at a deathly rate, half hoping you wouldnât sense how utterly nervous you made him feel, he ripped two identical slits. His fingers grazed the divet of where your shoulder blades met your spine. God, even your scent was intoxicating. You smelled of pure, sweet honeysuckle and it took every bone in his body not to press his lips against the nape of your neck. His head became clouded and he couldnât think straight. It was most likely the reason why he was so careless as he let his fingers brush your bare skin. You shivered and gasped softly. What is happening to you?
You gently cleared your throat and whispered a quick thanks to your friend. Then, you inhaled and began to focus. About where Gojo had torn those two slits, the muscles of your back began to tense up and a roaring buzz began to intensify. You felt something tearing its way from the flesh of your back. A soft glow illuminated from where your wings emerged from your back and Gojo stared. It took his breath away, your charcoal black wings. You looked too heavenly to even exist in this world where curses rampaged; you were a beacon of light in the dark.
âGojo? Is there something wrong? Why are you staring at me?â
âItâs nothing!â Gojo said frantically, although it sounded like he was reassuring himself rather than you. âNothingâŠâ
As you swallowed the lump down your throat, you finally turned around to face Gojo. God, you hated how pretty he was. Wisps of his snow white hair brushed against his cheeks while his long eyelashes framed his electrically blue eyes perfectly. His tall stature leaned over you and you couldnât help but look up, doing anything you can in your power to gaze into his eyes some more. Hell, you could have sworn that they even glowed at night. You felt your face getting hot and you looked away. âYou know how to hold onto me? You know, for when Iâm the one flying.â
âHmm,â Gojo pondered for a second, but then his expression melted into a sly smile, âI think youâll have to teach me again.â
Your eyebrow twitched with annoyance. âAgain?â you hissed. âGojo, I literally taught you this since you were five!â
Gojo in return shrugged hopelessly and in a sing songy voice he said, âWell, you always tell me that I have the brain of a five year old so-â
âFine,â you sighed while drawing out your words. âIâll teach you, again.â
âYippee!â Gojo danced. However, unbeknownst to you, Gojo didnât need to hear your script again. He had heard you say the same instructions over and over again, every time he wanted you to fly with him. It had gotten to the point that he would bet one of his kidneys that he could recite your whole spiel perfectly, word for word and breath for breath. But, he didnât mind it, not even a little bit. He liked listening to your voice, and plus, there was one phrase that he wanted to hear one more time. One phrase that made him fold in an instant.
âAlright,â you started to say. You positioned yourself behind your friend. Due to the difference in heightâwith Gojo being significantly taller than youâhe crouched. âI start by intertwining my hands with yours,â you instructed, and he did just that without any hesitancy. Your right hand was interlaced with Gojoâs right hand and your left hand was interlaced with Gojoâs left hand. You rested your chin on his shoulder; lips dangerously close to his ear. He could feel the faded puffs of air that escaped your mouth and the goosebumps of his skin raised.Â
âHold my hand tight,â you hummed.Â
And, Gojo could have sworn that his heart beat faster.
âAnd thenâŠâ
You could feel your legs starting to tense.
âWe jump!â
Suddenly, you released. Your legs propelled both you and Gojo into the air and your wings extended, the raven color blending in the night. The wind stung both you and Gojoâs cheeks while your hair was so carelessly blown in all sorts of directions. You felt your friend's hand grip tighter around yours and you murmured, âExtend your legs, and start walking for me.â He obeyed. âThatâs it!â you grinned. âItâs like we are dancing!â
And at the sound of your last word, Gojoâs ears perked up. He had heard that phrase a multitude of times, more times than he could count on his hands. But, even so, he wouldnât mind hearing you say itâto himâagain and again and again.Â
As the two of you slowly flew to the glimmering lights that belonged to Tokyo, he couldnât help but look down. Although he had looked at the city lights below his feet so many times, it didnât bother him how mundane it seemed. It felt special, because he was spending it with you.Â
Unbeknownst to you, however, the skyscrapers werenât the only thing that caught his eye: it was you. Your angelic wings were too lovely to be even real. As your eyes glittered with a genuine smile to match, both the rhythms of yours and Gojoâs hearts began to beat like one. Gojo stared at you with wonder pooling in his eyes. You looked like a dream. How did he get so lucky meeting you?Â
âThere!â you whispered in his ear. âLetâs land there.â You pointed at the highest skyscraper that overlooked the entire city. As you let go of Gojoâs left hand, you slowly dropped him off, letting his bare feet flush against the cool cement. And as you looked at the scenery that unfolded in front of you, it was a shame that you couldnât feel the eyes of Gojo that lingered on your face.
ââč
As you stood side by side next to Gojo, you looked upon the unwavering skyscrapers beneath you. You breathed, it had been such a long time since youâve gotten out of your stuffy bedroom. You hated how enclosed the walls were. You hated how the texture of the splintery wood felt against your skin. You hated the mirror and the reflection that stared back at you. You hated the stupid, disregarded, superficial love confessions that began to pile up in that dreaded shoebox. And, most notably, you hated how you couldnât see the stars.
But here, it was a completely different perspective. The lights that illuminated the sky were emitted by the traffic below; you name it all: cars, taxis, bikes. Everyone had someplace to be, always looking to see what came next with swirling thoughts that preoccupied their entire mind. Some were looking down, glued to their phone screens while others held their devices against their ears. They were in their own individual bubble, waiting for the next boring task to come. You wished you were like them: normal. You didnât like the life you were living. It was the same vicious cycle everyday: eating, training, and sleeping. You wanted out. But you were good at what you didâthat is, eradicating curses. It was irrefutable. So, you swallowed the pit in your throat and pretended that you were okay. If you could fight for the people around you just so they could live their unsuspecting lives, that should be enough for you. Because if you canât have a normal life, why should you restrain others from attaining the thing youâve longed for? But it wasnât enough; it never was. You just wanted to be normal and you will continue to long for it as long as your flesh retains its color.
You gazed upon the dim stars above. Gojo was watching as well, but not at the night sky. He was looking at something more important and alluring, something that even rivaled the planets above. He was looking at you. You felt his eyes tracing your collarbones, then your neck, your perfectly plush lips, and then to your eyes. You tore your vision away from the scenery and now you were gazing into his vibrant eyes once more.Â
You hummed, âWhy are you staring at me againâŠâ Albeit, it sounded more of an accusation than a question.
âBecause, Iâm trying to think of a name for you,â Gojo grinned.
âA name?â you echoed.
âWell yeah, Iâm pretty good at naming people.â
You gave him a short, courtesy filled laugh in order to disguise your bitterness, âWell, Iâm fine with just Absolute Zero.â
âDoesnât it feel boring just going by your code name?â
You narrowed your eyes and it took Gojo aback. He had never seen such sadness ebb and flow within your face. As a response, your hand gripped the railing that enclosed the sides of the rooftop. You hoisted yourself up and your feet pattered along the narrow aisle that jutted out of the side of the skyscraper the two of you were occupying. You held out your arms, carefully balancing yourself and walking away from Gojo, and closer to open air. You looked down. The path you were balancing on was getting thinner and thinner, consequently revealing more of the oncoming traffic that softly illuminated your face.
âCareful!â Gojo yelled.
But, instead, you ignored his heed and began walking further away and Gojo fearfully chewed the inside of his cheek at your retreating figure. âLook at it all,â you spat. âAn isolated wasteland filled with nothing but mindless people. They contribute everything they worked for only to become a statistic once they perish. It wonât matter what name we hold.â You bit the flesh of your bottom lip and sighed. âThere are no oceans or bright stars. Look,â you commanded as you pointed at the stars. âThey are all muted. They werenât nearly this desolate back then.â
As quickly as confusion had arisen across Gojoâs face, it was dismissed just as fast. âHanahaki! Come back! If you fall I am not going to help you!â
âBut youâll catch me? Wonât you?â
You turned around, still dancing on the aisle with your feet, throwing caution to the wind, not caring if you fell or not. You smiled at Gojo. But, it wasnât just any ordinary smile. In the years that Gojo had been watching you, he had never seen you gaze upon him in such a specific way. He hated how it made his heart pound harder and harder with every passing second. It left such a sharp, yet sweet taste in his mouth. And he didnât care how he was surrendering to you, not even a little bit.
You looked beautiful. Not only were you giving all of your attention to him, but you were looking at himânot Shoko, and most importantly not Getoâwith such pure love. You were looking only at him. With your upturned eyebrows and your sad smile showing concern to your eyelashes that fluttered delicately everytime you blinked and your silk-like hair that swayed in the wind, he couldnât look away. He was in too deep, and you trapped him.
âHey Gojo,â you started to say. âDo you really think friendships can last forever? Even when our bones are grinded into stardust and when the sun finally burns out into oblivion⊠will we still be together?â
Gojoâs breath hitched. He didnât know what to say, this question from you seemed so⊠unlike you. But before you could hear his response, your feet that had once carelessly danced on the aisle that jutted out the side of the infrastructure had lost balance. And, you fell. Gojo had enunciated his honest response; it was such a shame that he didnât say it louder because you couldnât hear a single thing that came out of his moving lips. But once he saw you free falling in mid air he ran to the edge and looked down. And there, he saw your wings that saved you. You looked at him with a cheeky grin on your face. Then, you flew up to meet Gojo face to face once again.
âI want you to hold me tight,â you pleaded delicately. âI want you to hold me tight, and donât let go.â That was the final sentence until you gripped the railing once again and rested your cheek on the palm of your hand to look at Gojo again. âJust⊠kiddingâŠâ you breathed, more quiet than a whisper.

honeysuckle. character chart

Name: Absolute Zero
Alias: (Y/N) Hanahaki â given by Gojo, Honey â given by Shoko
Lore Notes (I will expand on this later, but I just want to braindump):
Your canonical age is seriously unknown
You have been around since the dawn of time so you are ancient
In a vicious cycle of reincarnation, you are technically immortal
As for what species you are, you donât know
You canât be killed unless you are shot in your âachillesâ heelâ which is a weak spot located at the bottom of your brainstem, the medulla which is arguably the most important component of the brain
Once this happens, you canât regenerate and you die; game over, try again
You get reborn again in the same body
Some memories are intact, others not so much
These forgotten moments can be reawakened by certain things that cause deja vu
Every time you die, you wake up
Same body, same face
You are aware when you die, and aware when you wake up, and aware if the current situation you are somehow in
You have been beat down by so many of the people around you throughout the ages that you very much donât like humans
There are no medical records and traces of you
When people look at you itâs the kind of feeling in which they feel like they have seen you which draws them into you
You smell like honeysuckle and act just as sweet as them
Abilities:
You have angelic like wings
They can help you fly around in the air
Similar to Hawks from My Hero Academia, you can control each individual feather
You wings can change colors under certain circumstances
Regeneration
It is exactly what it sounds like
You can regenerate body parts instantly if they get damaged
If you have you hand severed, for example, you can stick your hand back on and it will heal
Regeneration will not heal you once your achillesâ heel has been shot
Molecular Manipulation
You can manipulate certain molecules within certain materials
Basically controlling the elements like Avatar: The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra
So far you only know how to control the main four, and subsets like blood bending or metal bending have not been touched on but they will later
As for cursed technique
Idk!
Please give me ideas!
I was thinking maybe the feathers in your wings contain cursed energy or smth like that
Appearance:
This is somewhat canon?
I wonât say appearances or specify (H/C) or (E/C) and things of that nature, because I think that defeats the whole purpose of the x reader tag I used
But if you like some of the ideas described, pick and choose and give me feedback if you do want me to implement these characteristics!
This is just for the people who wants someone to imagine in the story
Here is how I imagine this character!
Note! Absolute Zero was my reader/oc for my other fanfiction Underdog, a various bnha x reader/oc
Honestly, if you are really curious, the fanfic is still up, so go wild! It is posted on Quotev and Wattpad
Not sure if it is good but it has a lot of words, so if you are waiting on this series next chapter, I would recommend you take a look at it if you like my writing
Iâm still continuing that fanfic, but the character I made was just too good to go to waste so I recycled
I imagine her to have varying hair lengths, but long of some sort
As for hair color, I imagine a light, sakura, pastel pink or a jet black.
Or maybe the hair is jet black but the underside is bleached/dyed a color of your choosing; let me know if you like that option!
Curtain bangs, slightly wavy-straight hair
As for skin tone, Iâm thinking like a slight tan? As if you have been sunbathing and have a healthy glow idk
As for eye color I was thinking of a dark sea foam green (that matches with pink hair) or a burgundy color (that matches with the jet black hair)
If you couldnât tell, this character was heavily inspired by Zero Two from Darling and the Franxx with both appearances and personality (shoutout!)
As for voice, Iâm imagining the same voice as the character above and Panty from Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt (both dub)
I love their voices!!
I feel like this character would have piercings, maybe a couple on the earlobes!!
Here is a visual representation, let me know what you guys think!

honeysuckle.

ââč
Honeysuckles are characterized by their one delicious drop of nectar. Although they are profoundly ethereal, it truly is such a shame they are an invasive species that are looked down upon by others. Ways of eradicating their kind have been prevalent in the past, present, and future. And yet, despite it all, why are you still standing?Â
Like the honeysuckle, you invade the minds of people all around you. You suffocate, strangle, and slaughter them, symbolic of what honeysuckles do to other plants; however, you donât seem to notice. And they donât seem to mind. So, really, whose fault is it if they get hurt in the crossfire of emotions?
It truly is such a shame that although they all loved you unconditionally with you returning mutual feelings, you will feed on the decaying flesh of those around you like a vulture.

honeysuckle. 01
ââč
03.19. 2006
âI really like you! Please be mine!â
You raised an eyebrow at the wavering boy who had bowed down to you. A straight, perfect 90 degree angle. His hands held a white envelope with a pastel pink heart that tapped down the flap, closing off the personal details one might include in an intimate letter. His mop of black hair swayed in the wind with his eyes and mouth screwed shut. He was waiting for an answer, but you wouldnât relent. One minute passed, then two, then five. His heart was beating a million miles an hour, and for every second that ticked, his face became progressively redder and redder due to utter embarrassment. It was a typical reaction you have seen with every boy that had confessed. You lost count after fifteen. But you did have to admit that this kid was ballsy. A first year confessing to an upperclassman, let alone the fact that you didnât even attend the same school. You gazed upon the Kyoto Jujutsu High sign that stood proudly against the spring air. Him showing vulnerability and weakness to a girl he had only seen a couple of times disgraced the school he was currently representing.
A sigh came from your mouth, you decided to let him down easy. As you so graciously took the envelope from his hands, the boy looked at you with hope pooling in his eyes. However, such hope was ripped away once he saw you carelessly shove the letter inside the breast pocket of your school uniform. âI really appreciate it, thank you for sharing these⊠feelings with me,â you coolly said. Your hand made contact with the underside of his chin and lifted his face up to look you directly into your eyes. You smiled at him. But the feelings that drove that aforementioned smile was pity. Your glossy lips came closer and closer to his ear, almost touching the edge; and his face glowed all shades of red.Â
âBut I donât fuck little kids.â
You retracted, keeping your distance from him and started to walk away. You lazily waved in the direction of the meek boy who confessed, shouting out, âCome confess again next year when youâre more mature, alright? Then maybe Iâll consider it!â You giggled to yourself without an afterthought; however, what you didnât see was the boy helplessly looking at your retreating figure, fist clenched tight. He wanted to be mad, he wanted to yell out and tell you how bitchy you were for saying such a mean thing to him. But once he saw your smile, he melted. He couldnât get mad at you. Your sweet smell invaded his mind, and likewise your perfect lips. He was so privileged to see such a sight. So, so privileged.Â

âSo, uh, what were you and that guy talking about?â
Not even one foot had stepped on the floor of the pristine bullet train and this nimrod had interrupted your train of thought, or the lack thereof in this case. You rolled your eyes and took a seat that faced him. You sighed as you looked at the now motion blurred houses that whipped past your line of sight. âDoes it really matter, Geto?âÂ
Shoko, your good friend who sat beside you, brushed her fingers through her hair. She hummed, âI think that heâs a little jealous, honey.â
With your eyes torn away from the window, you gazed into her eyes and shrugged, âJealous of what? The guy? In all honesty, he was just as boring as they come. Average physique, average hair, and average personality.â
The brunette pursed her lips, but then they melted into a mischievous smile. âSo,â she started to say. âYouâre saying that you would pick Geto instead of that other guy?â
You waved a relaxed hand and lazily grinned in response, âWell, of course! If I wanted to have a fight with someone Iâd rather have them be strong. I like it when they struggle.â
Geto bursted into a fit coughing; however, you hardly noticed the color of his cheeks that had flushed into a blossoming shade of pink. It seemed like he took a liking to the passing infrastructures from his window. Shoko sighed, âThatâs⊠not what I meantâŠâ
âWait what? What do you mea-?â
âHanahaki!â
âHuh?â
But before you could fully ask, Gojo interrupted you. You grinned at him, âWhatâs up?â
âWho was that guy? Like, for real, for real? Is he your boyfriend? I think Iâve seen him before in the Sister Exchange Event! What do you think of him? Am I off the table then-?âÂ
As Gojo bombarded you with mindless questions about your love life, you sighed and shook your head. âYou know,â you started to say with your pointer finger touching your chin, âI donât exactly know what I think of him⊠But I know what he thinks of me, though.â You giggled as you threw Gojo the crumpled up love letter that lay dormant in your breast pocket.Â
Gojo caught the letter in mid air. âItâs not opened, yet,â he observed.
âWould you like to do the honors? It might be a good experience for you. You know, because I know you donât get confessions often. Maybe you can know what it feels like,â you playfully mocked.
âOuch,â Gojo pouted.Â
âDamn,â Shoko breathed. âAre you gonna take that lying down?â
âActually, Shoko, if itâs a jab coming from Hanahaki, I will gladly take it lying down,â Gojo smirked as he enunciated every syllable of the word gladly. He blew raspberries at Shoko as he opened the letter. He read aloud, âDear (Y/N) Hanahaki or Absolute Zero, or all the wonderful aliases you go by, IââÂ
After the first sentence, you were gone. There was no use in trying to listen because every love letter you received in your painfully long life has been the same over and over again, in one way or another. Unbeknownst to you, however, Geto was discreetly trying to look over at the letter Gojo had beside him, merely capturing a couple of words.
âWow, Hanahaki,â Shoko drawled. âI think you should have said yes. He seems like a reaaal romantic.â
âAre you kidding me? All he did was talk about her face and her ass,â Gojo grumbled. âBoth are great of course-â
âWhat Gojo is saying, Hanahaki,â Geto exhaled, âIs that this guy seems like a total scumbag and only cares about what you look like on the outside. You should find someone who likes you for who you are. Someone whoâs grounded. Someone whoâs strategic. Someone like-â
âOh my god, guys!â you exclaimed with hands gesturing to your friends to back off. âI rejected him, obviously. I just like to keep the letters.â
âWhy? Whatâs the point?â Shoko asked.
âFor my collection, of course,â you grinned.
âOh, yeah, right,â your friend facepalmed. âI forgot you get these confessions pretty often.â
âOften?â Geto grimaced.
âYeah,â you shrugged. âDoesnât really matter to me, though. They all go to the same place anyways. No phone call back, and in a box in my room.â
âHow charming,â Shoko said.

As you and your friends approached the dorms of Tokyo Jujutsu High, you all waved your goodbyes and went your separate ways to your dorms. After getting ready for bed, you kneeled to look underneath your bed. A shoebox laid idly until you pulled it towards you. There, you dropped the love letter and closed the box tightly and returned it to its previous position. You sighed and stood up. You hadnât even bothered to look in the mirror before you laid down. Why bother? Your appearance hasnât changed in the last one hundred and fifty-six years you have been on this planet for.
