Hidakona Month Day 28: Reaper x Angel AU
Hidan is a Grim Reaper, and is tasked with taking Deidara’s soul to the afterlife. By some coincidence, Hidan mistakes Deidara with Naruto, due to a nickname fiasco.(Deidara and Naruto go to the same high school.) Hidan attempts to take Naruto’s soul when Konan, a Guardian Angel, appears and demands he is mistaken.
Since Hidan made himself known to Naruto, Naruto can see Konan too. The two supernatural beings constantly bicker over who is right, and Naruto is terrified. They later change their appearances to look more human, in an attempt to calm him down.
Meanwhile, Deidara, who had blown himself up in the science lab, is carted away in an ambulance, cheating death once more!

Meanwhile, Hidan’s hand is on Deidara’s ass 😔🙏

Hidakona Month Day 16- Band of Killers
Fans are pulling together theories about the unconfirmed relationship between Reaper, the lead guitarist, and Angel, the back up singer. This is some “evidence” proving that they are together. The fans do not quit, even for a minute.
Hidan would tell the whole world about their relationship, but Konan prefers privacy.
Based on episode 457, when Hidan asks Konan, Kakuzu and Itachi if they are in some sort of band. Konan later says “We are a band of killers” which is where I got their name from This AU takes place in the regular Naruto universe, so they are still S-rank criminal ninjas. But now they can also ROCK!
(And yessss, this was Hidakona Month back in December, but I’m still trying tofinish these prompts! More Hidakona and Band of Killers to come!)

Band of Killers: Fire
Deidara always managed to set something on fire by “accident”, so he was banned from touching anything explosive. He still managed to get his hands on some “ingredients” once- his best explosion yet. So they gave up and made him drummer XD I actually have a whole story about Sasori as well, but haven’t drawn it out yet… Will get to it eventually.

And Sasori killed both of them afterwards!
Hidan doesn’t like Sasori, he thinks he’s creeoy af… So he stays away from him hahhaa But it’s Hidan, he can’t resist teasing him a bit Deidara is just outright cruel, telling the public he’s a sadist… Like Deidara would know that (Deidara is busybody, knows everything) ;)

Band of Killers: Manager
I mean, if I were to make a band out of the Akatsuki not based on anything, I would have made Kakuzu the manager. What a grump. Hidan is not involved in this issue hahaha He knows to stay out of it

pff I love your analysis, I was wondering, do you think, emotionally, there's some part of Deidara that's dead and can maybe lowkey relate with Sasori on some subconscious level?
Deidara and Sasori are kind of in a similar boat, mentally-wise. By that I mean, both of them feel empty, and the seek to fill/destroy that emptiness. They focus on two totally opposite philosophies on how to be rid of their pain/baggage/loneliness, but they came to these philosophies for the same reason.
Both of them are artists, so they are creatives, and express their emotions very eloquently. They are both very far along in the paths they have chosen for themselves. They have experienced a lot of crap, and their philosophies are fueled by those personal experiences. And both of these philosophies have their pros and cons. Let’s cover what these philosophies are and why they came to these conclusions:
Backgrounds:
Sasori:
We have Sasori, a child who never received enough human affection to develop properly. Due to the lack of love received from his environment, he turned to puppets. He created his own people. He is now “self sufficient”. He is a classic sociopath/psychopath, in that he feels no empathy for others. He was simply never shown how, because he was brainwashed from a young age to kill people. He also can’t understand the need for emotions. Thus, he views himself as above the regular human race. He believes his lack of empathy makes him strong. But there’s a problem; Sasori is lonely.
Sasori recognizes this and attempts to “fix” this problem. He thinks that these unnecessary emotions (obviously left over from his childhood), must be purged, and the reason he has these emotions is because he is still too human. The result is to make himself into what he admires most: puppets. Unfeeling weapons. Puppets can be controlled easily. He wants control over himself. Sasori is all about control. He even wants to control death.
Deidara:
Then there’s Deidara, who also left his village out of loneliness. He felt that no one understood him or valued him as a person. Less is known about Deidara’s past, but there are plenty of clues as to what led to his current mentality. An obvious trait that he possesses is the need for affirmation. People who require a high level of attention usually did not receive enough as a child, resulting in stunted emotional development. We also see that Onoki thought his fighting style was too cowardly, even though Deidara is the farthest from a coward in any sense. I think Deidara was more focused on his art than his fighting as a kid, and Onoki disliked this. It alost seems like Deidara wanted to be viewed as a person, someone with outside talents, and not just a killing machine. But Iwa is very harsh, and no one would understand these desires. So Deidara, who is still very brain-washed to be a killer, leaves.
And although he enjoys fighting, the main thing he seeks is love of his art, the thing that was never appreciated at home.
I also think originally, his art was not focused on destruction- he later combined his profession as a ninja with his art in hopes that it would be accepted.
And as he grew older and jaded, he acquired a very dark life philosophy, and incorporated that into his work as well.
Deidara’s philosophy is nihilistic in a sense, however, I don’t think he lacks belief in an afterlife. Unlike Sasori, Deidara does not fear death. He thinks people gain meaning through death, simply because it is a part of life. Someone asked me awhile back why I think Deidara is unhappy with his life, when he seems so lively. Well, Deidara has an unhealthy obsession with death. He firmly believes that nothing lasts forever, and is so attached to this belief that he based his art on it. He aggressively wants to prove to others that everything is transient. He wants people to see his explosions and agree that it symbolizes our fragile lives. He has something to prove to himself, and this is why he gets so upset when people don’t “get” it. It almost seems like he’s been burned a few too many times by others, likely through tragedy. Too much death.
Philosophies: Delusion and Obsession
Sasori:
Sasori is held together by threads. If you really step back and look at what matters to him most, he’s very delusional. He clings to a fallacy. As he stated himself to Sakura and Chiyo, he is neither dead nor alive. He is an incomplete puppet. He’s not referring to his lack of immortality. (He was actually more proficient with experimentation that Orochimaru). What he implies here is that he failed in his quest to become emotionless and self-sufficient. He still feels empty, and he likely regrets the drastic steps he took to reach a destination that is simply unattainable.
Sasori’s philosophy on the eternal is a delusion. (Eternity= Emotionless to Sasori). And he rationalizes and deludes himself, refusing to believe that nothing can truly last forever. Because if he came to that conclusion, everything he understands would be a lie. And he would fall apart. To him, transience would mean life is meaningless. And even though he is a sociopath, and lacks empathy, it doesn’t mean that he doesn’t desire connection. So, Sasori is trapped between a rock and a hard place here.
Sasori is incapable of connecting to others, so he seeks to become an immortal god in a sense, above emotion and desire.
But he can’t do this, because he IS still human, and still has human needs. And this is very apparent from his usage of puppets as people.
Deidara:
Deidara is actually braver than Sasori in that he accepts death. While Sasori ignores the fact that physical things can’t last forever/human beings need connection, Deidara is all about connection and mortality. He’s all about being human. Deidara does not rely on delusion to function. The problem with Deidara is that he hyper-focuses on death. Deidara seems to have lost something, and obsesses over negative subjects. He just wants to contemplate death all day long. So while Sasori is in denial, Deidara is just a downer. Deidara doesn’t want to be a downer, he just thinks it’s the truth and it’s important to remember. He doesn’t want anything to disappoint him ever again. He won’t leave himself open.
Deidara dislikes this truth. He wants to believe in Sasori’s philosophy. This is why he goads Sasori into debating him- he wants Sasori to be right. Sasori’s death disappointed him because it further proved his truth. A universal truth that is brutal and ugly. Everyone dies. Even his partner, an immortal, died. In his eyes, this proves that Sasori was wrong. Deidara is dead inside, like you said, and wants to forget this truth. He wants to be happy. Deidara likely is conflicted because he is logical and knows no connection will work out in the end, but he also seeks out connection from others. He finds joy in life, but tries to prepare himself for death. He hides his loneliness behind a smile. If he just lives life to the fullest while he’s alive, then his life has meaning. Fake it until you make it. Also he’s a big extrovert, and lots of extroverts struggle with depression before and after being with others.
More on that here and here and here.
The last link covers the depression you feel after having a great time. To an extrovert, being with others is the ultimate high. Deidara rarely gets to enjoy this high, and when he does experience it, the “blues” are probably even worse afterwards. You kind of think to yourself, “what is the point of all of this? Relating to others when in the end you are alone?”
Similarities:
Deidara attaches his value as a person to his art, just as Sasori does. They both seek relief from their loneliness. They also rationalize and try to prove to themselves that they are right.
Sasori desperately wants to believe that something he does can last forever, because that is where he attaches meaning.
Deidara, on the other hand, desperately wants people to acknowledge that everything dies, because to him, life means more because death exists.
When they talk about “Art”, they are really talking about their own truths.
They are both lonely and empty- but they seek relief from that emptiness in polar opposite ways. Sasori wants to be rid of that emptiness by becoming emotionless. Deidara wants to replace his emptiness with life and happiness with others, like a normal person.
Hope this makes sense!

I wonder if sasori and Sakura will meet at the war arc Edo Chiyo and Edo Sasori (A second chance).
Of course 😉 How could I not use such a wonderful opportunity for drama and character progression? Sasori facing himself is the ultimate moment for him in this story, I think! And I’ve been so sad Granny Chiyo is not in my story (cause she’s dead) so I have to jump on her Edo Tensei content! Thank you for the lovely message, I’m so glad you like my story!
