Some pop art I made as part of a screenprinting project

This style of art isn't really my strong suit, but I'm pretty okay with how they turned out. If you have any suggestions on how it can be improved, I'll gladly take them!

Donkey Kong General Headcanon Alphabet
A - Animals (Are they an animal person? Good with them? Scared of them?)
Considering he is an animal himself, it makes sense that he would be chill with most species. Unless he’s dealing with one of K. Rool’s Kremlings or an angry wasp, DK is good with other animals and treats them all with proper respect. If one attacks him, though, survival instinct will take over, and he’ll do whatever he can to defend himself.
B - Boozy (What is their alcohol tolerance like? What kind of drunk are they?)
DK does not drink alcohol. Aside from the fact that no one would ever trust him with it, he just doesn’t like the taste. One time, during a party, he got curious and snuck a sip of someone’s wine. As soon as it touched his tastebuds, he instantly regretted it.
C - Chocolate (Do they prefer savory tastes or do they have a secret sweet tooth?)
Considering most of his diet consists of bananas, he prefers sweet things all day.
D - Decision (Are they impulsive decision makers? Do they follow their heart or do they prefer thinking it over?)
Donkey Kong is very impulsive. His heart always rules over his head; thinking it over is never an option with him. DK has a “less thinking, more doing” kind of mentality, always opting for a direct charge headfirst over a pre-meditated plan.
E - Explosive (Are they quick to get angry? What kind of angry are they?)
This happy-go-lucky ape is pretty patient with most people, only getting irritated if someone knows how to push his buttons properly. When Donkey Kong is angry, he becomes serious and aggressive. If something really infuriates him, then he’ll go feral and destroy every inanimate object in sight. Something like that only ever happens when his loved ones are put in serious danger.
F - Friendship (Do they make friends easily or are they more difficult to approach?)
DK makes friends pretty easily. He’ll invite anyone who cares to join him during outdoor games, he’ll give piggyback rides to anyone who wants them, and he’ll share his bananas with anyone in need of a pick-me-up. He’s pretty easy to befriend, too. Offer him a banana, and you’re already halfway on the path to friendship.
G - Ghost (Do they believe in the paranormal? Are they superstitious?)
Initially, he had no idea what ghosts even were. That was, until he saw the ghost of his dead grandmother during one of his adventures. Since then, he has strongly believed in the paranormal, and his later experiences with Boos during Mario Party games further affirm this for him. He’s not superstitious, per se, but he firmly believes in showing respect for the dead.
H - Health & Hygiene (Do they take proper care of themselves, or do they need to be reminded to have better habits?)
Living in the jungle, he’ll take baths only when he feels like they’re absolutely necessary. Upon first joining Smash, the other fighters constantly told him that, as long as he’s living with them, he has to be more consistent with bathing. As time has gone on, he’s gotten better at cleaning himself and not stinking up the mansion, but when he goes back home, he’ll resume his regular routine. He will admit, though, ever since he learned about banana shampoo, baths have become far more enjoyable.
I - Income (Do they think money = happiness or are they happy with enough to survive? Do they dream of a lavish lifestyle, or do they think luxury is unnecessary?)
DK is more than happy with what he has. He has needed money to buy items for his adventures, or to go to the market every once in a while, but he doesn’t need copious amounts of it to sustain himself. Donkey Kong appreciates the little things in life and thus prefers a simple lifestyle. He doesn’t need much to be content; as long as he has his loved ones there and plenty of bananas in stock, he’s a-okay.
J - Job (If they were living in our world—modern AU—what kind of job would they have? Would they be good at it?)
He would probably work at a fruit stand at a local farmer’s market. He’d be pretty helpful and be renowned for his reasonable prices. He’d have all kinds of fruit for sale, from all different parts of his kingdom. Except for bananas—those are all his. If you think he’s going to part with them, you’re insane.
K - Kindness (Are they kind? Do they like to pay it forward? Are they kind to strangers?)
Kind is DK’s default setting. He pays it forward all the time without giving it a second thought. He’s kind to strangers unless they aren’t kind back.
L - Love Language (What is their love language? Does it change when it’s a romantic relationship or are they consistent with how they show love to friends and partners?)
Donkey Kong leans towards quality time the most. As long as he’s around someone, he doesn’t care what they do. When it comes to romantic relationships, he’ll not only want to spend time with them, but he’ll also give plenty of gifts and perform acts of service. Or, attempt to, at least. He tries his best to help, but he often becomes more of a liability than anything. Candy Kong can attest to this.
M - Music (What kind of music are they into/would they be into? Can they sing/dance? Do they have good rhythm?)
He’s into anything that can make people dance. Fast-paced, groovy songs with good beats are right up his alley. He’s surprisingly decent at singing, and he can dance pretty well too! He puts his heart and soul into putting on a show and lighting up the dance floor with his sweet moves. He has amazing rhythm, which stems from being a master at the bongos.
N - Nature (Do they enjoy the calm and quiet of nature or do they prefer people and the city? What kind of nature resonates most with them?)
Donkey Kong definitely prefers nature, but that doesn’t stop him from being curious about the city. He enjoys meeting new people and exploring all that it has to offer, and he’s had his fair share of adventures through urban settings with the other fighters. At the end of the day, though, he’ll always prefer the calmness of his treehouse and viewing the lush greenery outside. You can’t get bananas this fresh in the city, that’s for sure.
O - Offspring (Do they want kids one day? Are they good with children, or do they prefer to stay away as far as possible?)
He hasn’t even thought about it. He’s already got his hands full with taking care of his nephew, especially while they’re in Smash together. DK’s great with children (honestly, he’s like a big child himself) and has enough high energy to keep up with them. He’s more than happy to give as many piggyback rides and play as many games as they desire.
P - Pain (Do they have a high pain tolerance? Are they quick to admit that they are in pain or will they endure it by themselves?)
Donkey Kong has a high pain tolerance. Some spots are more sensitive than others, but overall, he can withstand pain very well. If he’s joking around with friends, then he’ll be quick to admit it in a playful way. In other words, he’ll say something hurts and then laugh it off. However, if he’s fighting someone or in serious danger, he’ll endure it by himself. He understands that now is not the time to complain, and there are more pressing matters that deserve full attention.
Q - Question (Are they curious by nature? Do they know loads of little trivia? Are they very knowledgeable in their field?)
Donkey Kong is very curious about things he isn’t used to seeing. He gets even more curious when he’s told not to be curious about something. DK knows a lot about the local flora and fauna of his homeland, and he’s recently been becoming more acquainted with those of the Light Realm as well.
R - Rain (What is their favorite type of weather? Favorite season? Are they an ‘I’m always hot’ or an ‘I’m always cold’ kind of person?)
DK doesn’t really have a preference for weather or season; he enjoys all of them! He’s so used to the temperate climate of his home turf that seeing rain and snow excites him. Where someone else might see a dreary day, Donkey Kong sees a prime opportunity to rough it up and have fun! When it’s sunny, he’ll go outside and swing around as usual. When it’s rainy, he’ll jump in puddles and play in the mud. When it’s snowy, he’s the first to start a snowball fight. He gets hot easier due to the amount of hair on his body, but it’s not a constant issue.
S - Sleep (What are their sleeping habits? What does their bed look like?)
Donkey Kong usually likes laying on his back with an arm over his stomach. He typically sleeps in a hammock (he even has one in his room at the mansion), but sometimes he’ll settle for the floor instead. He grunts a lot in his sleep, and sometimes he even punches the air. His hammock gets really twisted as he rolls out of bed, and he’ll leave it like that until he needs to use it again.
T - Tired (Are they an early bird? A night owl? A permanently exhausted pigeon?)
Donkey Kong is a morning guy, but he’s not the type to wake up at the crack of dawn. While he enjoys getting out there and enjoying the day, he also values his peaceful slumber.
U - Unwind (What do they like to do to relax? Do they need a lot of downtime?)
To unwind, DK only needs three things—TV, bananas, and a comfy spot to lounge. He’s not the type to need a lot of downtime, but once in a while, he appreciates being able to just chill out and recover from recent activities.
V - Vulnerable (Are they quick to overshare, or do they keep up their defenses? How long does it take for them to trust someone and open up?)
Donkey Kong is a simple creature; for him, there’s not much he needs to unpack. He’s quick to share and be open with others, unless they do something to hurt him in return. It takes him a while to open up and give second chances, especially if those he cares about have been affected by past actions.
W - Weird (Do they have any habits that are considered strange or abnormal by other people? What are they?)
Donkey Kong will blurt out random words on occasion. Sometimes they’re in English or Italian, other times they’re in Japanese or Hylian. It’s his way of practicing what he’s learned, but most of the time, the words he uses don’t make sense in context. Like he’ll just say “cow” in the middle of a cornhole game for no apparent reason.
X - XOXO (In a modern AU: are they a texter or a caller? Do they use emojis? What is their most used emoji? Do they use a lot of common abbreviations, or do they type out everything properly?)
Donkey Kong isn’t really familiar with electronics, especially phones. He prefers facetime, if possible. When it comes to texting, all he can do is send cryptic messages consisting of misspelled words and random emojis. When it comes to calling, all he can do is grunt into the phone and attempt to form coherent sentences. Either way, DK’s crossing his fingers and praying that whoever’s on the other end will understand him. At least with facetime, he can make gestures and point at things to help him get his message across. His most used emoji would be the banana, for obvious reasons. He doesn’t know common abbreviations nor can he type everything out. He just tries his best to explain himself and leaves the rest to the other person.
Y - Yes Man (Are they quick to help out friends? What about strangers? Will they be easily convinced to do things for others or do they prefer just taking care of their own business?)
Absolutely. He’ll help out friends quicker than they can say “banana split”. Same thing with strangers. If they give off a good vibe, he’ll help them out. It doesn’t take much to convince him to assist others.
Z - Zone Out (Are they prone to daydreaming? If so, what are they dreaming about? Or are they more focused, and if they are, how hard is it to break their concentration?)
Donkey Kong is one to live in the moment, so he doesn’t daydream all too often. When he does, though, it’s usually right before he takes a nap. While staying at the mansion, he might think about his home and all of his relatives. Sometimes, he’ll think about how much he wishes Candy Kong could be there. Once he starts daydreaming, it’s hard to snap him out of it. One time, Diddy had to full-on slap him in the face to get him to focus.

Fighter #02 - Donkey Kong
- Back in the Brawl days, when Little Mac was just an Assist Trophy, he showed Donkey Kong how to do a fistbump. Since then, it’s been one of DK’s trademark ways of greeting others. For a while, he used to forget his own strength, accidentally sending people through walls with each fistbump he gave. It wasn’t until he taught Cranky Kong about them that he finally learned to control himself.
- Somewhere between Smash 4 and Ultimate, DK lost his precious bongos. He was sure he had them last time he went to the annual Jungle Jam, but now he doesn’t know where they are.
- DK only has a green thumb when it comes to banana plants; anything else, he will accidentally kill.
- During competitions with friends, he’s happy, fun, and carefree. But if he’s competing with an enemy, or if someone pushes his buttons enough, he’ll become angry, serious, and dead-set on crushing them.
- He has a giant wooden totem pole in his room that he uses as a punching bag. It has a drawing of King K. Rool’s face taped onto it.
- Naturally, both DK and Diddy have picked up a few words in different languages from other fighters. Sometimes, if the two show interest, whoever’s around will teach them a few phrases and help them pronounce things. Most of the fighters usually teach them English, but sometimes they’ll learn Italian from Mario and Luigi, or Japanese from Ryu and Cloud. If Wario’s around, he might introduce them to a new swear word or two, as long as no one else is there to see him do it.
- For the longest time, Donkey Kong refused to take baths. That was, until he discovered from Bayonetta that banana shampoo was a thing. Now, he can’t get enough of it; after all, why wouldn’t he want to smell like his favorite food?
- While DK is all about having fun, he’s very responsible with Diddy Kong and always makes sure that he stays out of trouble.
- If an occasion arises where he can’t look after Diddy Kong, he trusts Mario to look after him in his place.
- If his beloved tie gets destroyed, whether on the field of battle or by accidentally getting too close to the garbage disposal, Isabelle will sew him a new one.
- Sometimes, he and Diddy Kong will sneak into the kitchen at night to sneak bananas back to their rooms. Unfortunately for them, Donkey Kong grunts and stomps super loud without even realizing it. Diddy tries so hard to keep him quiet during their midnight snack runs, but more often than not, they wake everybody up.
- Whenever they receive a new shipment of food, DK is called to help with the heavy lifting.
- Everyone is familiar with Donkey Kong’s goofy and lovable nature, but if anyone dares threaten the lives of his loved ones (especially Diddy Kong), he becomes aggressive and feral. The veteran fighters have only seen him like that once, and it was terrifying.
- Sometimes, he and Diddy will accompany Mario to New Donk City. Since they’re so used to living in the jungle, they’re curious about everything the big city has to offer. They can often be a little too curious, though, which usually lands them into trouble.
- Donkey Kong is notorious for leaving trails of banana peels and being partially responsible for people receiving injuries due to slipping on them.
- DK taught half the roster how to tie a tie. Some were impressed and grateful for the lesson, while others were embarrassed that a gorilla taught them, of all things.
- He’s strictly an herbivore, so anything that gets served in the mansion has to have a vegetarian option for him and his fellow plant-eaters. Mario has a special meatball” recipe made just for him, which consists of a mixture of bananas, strawberries, and various kinds of seeds.
- He and Diddy send letters to Cranky Kong to let him know they’re doing okay.
- He’s friendly rivals with Mario and Captain Falcon, always willing to have healthy competition with them.
- DK wants to befriend Bowser and get him to join the good side, but Bowser doesn’t really want anything to do with him. The Koopa King slowly warms up to him over time, but he still refuses to consider himself one of the “good guys”.
- DK and Diddy will set up games and obstacle courses outside, playing with and competing against anyone who wants to join in. With Donkey Kong involved, even a simple game of cornhole can become an intense battle. Mario, Captain Falcon, and the Pokemon fighters are their most frequent players/competitors. Sometimes, King K. Rool will even try to get in on the fun just to attempt beating DK at something (he never does).
- Sometimes, Bowser joins in for the similar reason of trying to beat Mario at something, but regrets his decision as soon as Donkey Kong tries to be buddies with him.
- Every Christmas, DK enjoys dressing up as Santa Claus for the younger fighters. They know that it’s just Donkey Kong under the beard, but they play along because they know it makes him happy.
- He has accidentally broken into the item storage room and gotten caught for playing with things he shouldn’t have. As one could guess, Diddy Kong was also there.
- He will only understand math in banana terms. Peach and Byleth are kind enough to try teaching him these things.
- He loves carrying people around on his back! Whether they want a piggyback ride through the jungle or just need a stepstool to get the pickle jar, Donkey Kong is happy to provide.
- Donkey Kong is currently trying to convince Master Hand to let him build a treehouse within the forest surrounding the mansion grounds. Master Hand sees it as a pointless waste of wood, as the fighters already have their own rooms within the mansion. He may not like the idea now, but DK believes that one day his dream will become a reality.
- That being said, he did get permission to build barrel cannons around the grounds as a means of quick transport. Master Hand may or may not have regretted this idea afterward. Let’s face it—”quick transport” was just a cover-up so DK could secretly add more excitement to his outdoor games.
- If he’s feeling extra goofy, he’ll run around the mansion pretending to “shoot” others with a banana. One time, he aimed it at Peach and accidentally squeezed it too hard, causing the fruit to shoot out of the peel and onto her face. Mario was pretty upset at him for that one.
- He’s gotten quite good at identifying different types of berries in the Light Realm and determining whether or not they’re safe to eat. Poor Kirby had to get food poisoning a few times to get to that point, but hey, it could’ve been worse.
- Donkey Kong thrives off attention from an audience. Hearing cheers and applause from his fellow fighters thrills him to bits!
- DK is incredibly clumsy. He knows how to carry his body in battle, but in everyday life, it’s a consistent struggle.

Mario General Headcanon Alphabet

A/N: I found the template for this on @ewanmitchellcrumbs blog and figured this would be fun to do with the SSBU roster.
A - Animals (Are they an animal person? Good with them? Scared of them?)
Mario is amazing with animals! Even though he’s had to possess them a couple times in his adventures with Cappy, he’s always tried to treat them with care and keep them out of harm’s way. In Smash, some of his greatest friends, like Donkey Kong, Yoshi, and Sonic, are animals, so that should be a testament to how well he treats them.
B - Boozy (What is their alcohol tolerance like? What kind of drunk are they?)
Mario can have a few pints before getting tipsy, having a stronger tolerance than his brother Luigi. He’s the type to get really nostalgic when drunk, often blabbing about random childhood memories with a dopey smile on his face.
C - Chocolate (Do they prefer savory tastes or do they have a secret sweet tooth?)
Mario enjoys all sorts of flavors, especially those he’s grown up with. He’s a sucker for any kind of dessert, but put a cake made by Princess Peach in front of him and he won’t be able to control himself.
D - Decision (Are they impulsive decision makers? Do they follow their heart or do they prefer thinking it over?)
As much as he tries to think things over more carefully, Mario will always be impulsive at his core. He follows his heart to a T and rarely hesitates, especially if there’s someone in need.
E - Explosive (Are they quick to get angry? What kind of angry are they?)
Mario’s usually pretty patient and cheerful around others and isn’t one to get upset over the smallest of things. It takes a lot to make him angry, but when he is, it’s usually because someone wronged him in some way. He’ll stand up for himself verbally and isn’t afraid to throw hands if the occasion calls for it.
F - Friendship (Do they make friends easily or are they more difficult to approach?)
Mario is incredibly easy to approach, which is why he was chosen to welcome new fighters onto the roster. He can make friends at the drop of a cap, unless they make a bad first impression (like some of the villains).
G - Ghost (Do they believe in the paranormal? Are they superstitious?)
I mean, considering all he’s seen on his adventures, it’s impossible for him not to. He claims he isn’t superstitious, but every time he sees an umbrella open inside, he gets tense.
H - Health & Hygiene (Do they take proper care of themselves, or do they need to be reminded to have better habits?)
Mario needs to keep his mustache in tip-top shape at all times. He actually has more products for his facial hair than he does for the hair atop his head. After a long adventure, Mario always makes sure to give himself the proper care. Sometimes, Peach will even convince him to do face masks with her (which, let’s be honest, he doesn’t need much convincing for something like that).
I - Income (Do they think money = happiness or are they happy with enough to survive? Do they dream of a lavish lifestyle, or do they think luxury is unnecessary?)
Mario is more than happy with what he has right now. All he needs are the bare necessities (food, water, shelter) and his loved ones. He’s not opposed to anything more, but it’s not something he deems necessary or craves to have.
J - Job (If they were living in our world—modern AU—what kind of job would they have? Would they be good at it?)
Canonically, he’s a plumber, so it’s only natural that he would be one in our world. He’s also quite the handyman, so I’d imagine he might expand the plumbing business into other general services. He’d be wonderful at it, no doubt.
K - Kindness (Are they kind? Do they like to pay it forward? Are they kind to strangers?)
Mario is kind to everyone he comes across. He will absolutely pay it forward and is always willing to help those in need, even if they’ve done some shady things in the past.
L - Love Language (What is their love language? Does it change when it’s a romantic relationship or are they consistent with how they show love to friends and partners?)
Acts of service, without a doubt. With a romantic relationship, he’ll do some small acts of physical affection, but aside from that, he’s pretty consistent with how he shows love to those he cares about.
M - Music (What kind of music are they into/would they be into? Can they sing/dance? Do they have good rhythm?)
In universe, Mario loves listening to Pauline’s upbeat band and Peach’s lovely singing. He’d also enjoy some of the tunes played by the Squid Sisters. In our world, he would be a fan of Weird Al or some other parody artist. In terms of singing, the most Mario can do is hum, but in terms of dancing, he’d light up the dance floor. He may not know what he’s doing, but his fiery passion and decent sense of rhythm make up for it.
N - Nature (Do they enjoy the calm and quiet of nature or do they prefer people and the city? What kind of nature resonates most with them?)
Mario enjoys either. He’s just happy to be there, really. His favorite kind of nature is the bright, vibrant scenery of the Mushroom Kingdom, with plenty of bushes, flowers, and trees to accommodate the local wildlife.
O - Offspring (Do they want kids one day? Are they good with children, or do they prefer to stay away as far as possible?)
He definitely would like to have little Marios running around someday but doesn’t plan on having that happen anytime soon. He’s great with children; many of them view him as a hero and a role model, someone to follow in their footsteps.
P - Pain (Do they have a high pain tolerance? Are they quick to admit that they are in pain or will they endure it by themselves?)
Mario has an incredibly high pain tolerance. This man will get hit by someone or something ten times bigger than him, and he’ll just get up like nothing happened. He’ll endure pain by himself, especially if it’s for the greater good.
Q - Question (Are they curious by nature? Do they know loads of little trivia? Are they very knowledgeable in their field?)
If something piques his interest, he enjoys learning about it by talking to others with more knowledge on the subject. Over the course of his many adventures, Mario has learned many things about both his universe and the Smash universe. Any new fighter that joins the roster can learn a lot about the Light Realm from Mario (another reason why he was appointed tour guide). And of course, let’s not forget that he knows everything there is to know about plumbing, even unclogging Warp Pipes.
R - Rain (What is their favorite type of weather? Favorite season? Are they an ‘I’m always hot’ or an ‘I’m always cold’ kind of person?)
Mario can’t get enough of sunshine. He lives for sunny days, as they always make him feel happy and bright. His favorite season is spring, as he loves seeing new plant life flourish and animals come back out from hibernating. Plus, he can wear his signature overalls without overheating. He’s not really an ‘I’m always cold’ kind of person, but he tends to get cold easier than most (hence why he has overalls on most of the time).
S - Sleep (What are their sleeping habits? What does their bed look like?)
While on adventures, Mario has a tendency to nap whenever and wherever he can. He knows that he’ll need as much energy as possible for the journey ahead, so any free time is usually spent resting. When he’s at home, he’ll run through a typical routine before bed (brushing his teeth, washing his face, combing his ‘stache) and sleep at a reasonable time. He has a habit of snoring, starting out softly then progressively getting louder. His bed usually looks like a mess; rather than re-making it, he’ll just toss his blanket over the whole thing and call it a day.
T - Tired (Are they a morning person? A night owl? A permanently exhausted pigeon?)
Mario is absolutely a morning person. He can’t stay asleep if he knows that a lovely day is waiting to greet him with new experiences and unique opportunities.
U - Unwind (What do they like to do to relax? Do they need a lot of downtime?)
Mario relaxes by doing things. As contradicting as that sounds, he needs to keep himself busy in order to unwind. Doing something hands-on, even if it’s just doing plumbing in the mansion, helps take his mind off anything sad or stressful. Mario doesn’t like having a lot of downtime in the traditional sense; he’s the type who always needs to have something to do.
V - Vulnerable (Are they quick to overshare, or do they keep up their defenses? How long does it take for them to trust someone and open up?)
Mario’s prone to saving his vulnerability for those he cares for most. His defenses aren’t built like brick walls, but they keep out those that he doesn’t trust as much (namely most of the villains). Friendships with Mario are easy to come about, but take time to become strong. He needs to be 100% sure that he can trust someone, so he’ll bide his time for a little while until their friendship grows deeper.
W - Weird (Do they have any habits that are considered strange or abnormal by other people? What are they?)
Mario will subconsciously fidget with the brim on his hat when he’s confused or trying to figure something out. He’ll take his forefinger and thumb and pinch the brim, then rub his fingers in a motion similar to sprinkling salt on food. Recently, however, he’s tried to put a stop to this habit because it annoys Cappy.
X - XOXO (In a modern AU: are they a texter or a caller? Do they use emojis? What is their most used emoji? Do they use a lot of common abbreviations, or do they type out everything properly?)
Mario would much rather call someone than text them, as he finds it much easier to express himself that way. He doesn’t really use emojis that much, aside from the occasional :) or red heart. When it comes to texting, he’ll try to use the speech-to-text feature, but it’ll often mess things up due to his accent.
Y - Yes Man (Are they quick to help out friends? What about strangers? Will they be easily convinced to do things for others or do they prefer just taking care of their own business?)
Mario’s quick to help out anyone, especially if they’re in danger. He’s easily convinced to do things for others, even at the expense of his own tasks. Mario will drop anything to assist someone in need, whether they’re his closest friend or a complete stranger.
Z - Zone Out (Are they prone to daydreaming? If so, what are they dreaming about? Or are they more focused, and if they are, how hard is it to break their concentration?)
Mario’s not one to daydream regularly, but if he has a lot of downtime, he’ll lose himself in daytime fantasies. He mainly dreams about Princess Peach, but sometimes he’ll think about never-ending pasta bowls. When Mario is fixated on a task, however, his concentration is not easily broken (unless he idles for too long, that is).

SSBU Roster's Building Skills
Would (insert character name) be good at building something? (These are merely my headcanons.)
Mario - 1000%. One of his alternate costumes is a builder costume for Pit's sake.
Donkey Kong - Not really. Would probably use too much brute strength and accidentally smash something. Besides, construction sites jog too many bad memories.
Link - Pre-Ultrahand? Maybe. Post-Ultrahand? Absolutely.
Samus - Definitely, but I think she'd be more well-versed in futuristic technology stuff as opposed to the classic hammer and nail.
Dark Samus - Would rather destroy something.
Yoshi - The most he could probably build is a Lego set, and even then, he probably couldn't keep himself from trying to eat the pieces.
Kirby - Same as Yoshi, except he somehow nearly choked on a Lego once and hasn't dared to try eating one again since.
Fox - He knows a little bit on how to repair ships, but for the most part, he doesn't have much knowledge on building things. Typically, he lets Slippy handle that stuff. He'd be a quick learner, though.
Pikachu - Probably wouldn't be able to sit still for long enough to do it. He's best used as a retriever for parts and tools.
Luigi - Absolutely. He might not have had his builder outfit make it to Smash, but he's just as capable as Mario.
Ness - Doesn't have much experience, but this kid can build whatever he puts his mind to. He might need some helping hands, though, because there's nothing you can't achieve with the power of friendship on your side.
Captain Falcon - Better at repairing than building. I can honestly see him being the type of guy to turn the instructions upside down when something confuses him.
Jigglypuff - Could probably build a Jenga tower if she tried hard enough, but would rather tell others to build stuff for her.
Peach - Doesn't have much experience with building anything, but she's determined and won't stop 'til she gets it right. She'd probably want to have the assistance of the Toads.
Daisy - Same thing as Peach, except she'd be too stubborn to ask for help.
Bowser - Depends on what it is. If it's something for his kids, then he'd try his best to make it himself, usually coming out with amazing results. If it's anything else, he'd step off to the side and let others do it for him.
Ice Climbers - Sure, they're handy with toys and stuff, but they don't really know where to start when it comes to bigger projects. Hand them a set of instructions and things might turn out okay.
Sheik - Yes. Sheik's smart enough to build anything, no matter what it might be.
Zelda - Also yes. She can construct a phantom knight with her powers, and wisdom is kinda her whole thing, so she'd be good at figuring out how to build something. Plus, she has the blood of the goddess, so she could probably just wish to build something and---ta-da!---it's done.
Dr. Mario - Same as Mario. I mean, they're the same person, after all.
Pichu - No. This adorable fluffball would have too much energy and not enough attention span.
Falco - He also lets Slippy handle everything construction-related, but he has more knowledge on the subject than Fox does (at least, when it comes to spaceship stuff).
Marth - Has probably never seen a hammer used for anything other than combat in his life. He'd be good at giving commands, but he'd rather leaving the building itself to the professionals.
Lucina - Pretty good at building models, but has never tried her hand at anything life-sized.
Young Link - Yes. He's actually gotten quite skilled with crafting things out of wood.
Ganondorf - Why build something yourself when you can just take someone else's work and call it your own?
Mewtwo - Are you kidding? This guy has telekinesis on his side; he can build whatever he puts his mind to. Literally. Which is probably not a good thing for the other fighters.
Roy - I don't know for sure, but he could probably put those strong arms of his to good use.
Chrom - He'd probably be pretty good at it, considering how strongly he believes in being able to achieve something with enough faith and determination.
Mr. Game & Watch - Only good at building extremely specific things. His 2D-ness kinda limits his options.
Meta Knight - Bro built his own airship. I think he's more than capable.
Pit - Now here's a guy that I think would be pretty good at building something. Unless you hand him a set of instructions, that is.
Dark Pit - Same as Pit, except he'd find a way to burn the instructions out of frustration.
Zero Suit Samus - Would actually be more capable than before now that she has two working hands as opposed to one hand and a cannon arm.
Wario - He's actually quite handy, but more often than not, he's too lazy and would gladly let others do it as long as they don't ask to get paid for it.
Snake - Yes, yes, yes. This man is good with his hands.
Ike - I can see him being able to build weapons and help out with the heavy lifting on big projects.
Squirtle - Isn't great at building things himself (especially if they're taller than him), but is a great assistant.
Ivysaur - Contrary to what most might think, she’s pretty good at building things. Her vines help her do a lot of heavy lifting, and she’s smart enough to figure out how to put stuff together.
Charizard - Tries his best, but accidentally ends up crushing or destroying whatever he's trying to build. Can not handle delicate projects.
Diddy Kong - Absolutely. This little guy is incredibly crafty, having fashioned his own peanut popgun and rocketbarrel jetpack.
Lucas - Again, with the power of friendship, anything's possible. Would rather build stuff with buddies than do it by himself.
Sonic - No, mainly because he wouldn't be able to focus. Sonic strikes me as the type of guy who just can't sit still for too long.
King Dedede - Yet another lazy one who'd rather have minions do it for him. Also, he ate concrete once just because he was curious about the taste.
Olimar - Probably one of the best builders on the roster. Calm, cool, collected, and has plenty of experience with numerous types of builds.
Lucario - Doesn't have much experience with building things, but would be good at it considering he's got nerves of steel.
R.O.B. - Can easily build and repair stuff as long as it's not himself. If that's the case, then he might have a few problems.
Toon Link - Will try his best, but needs tons of extra help and guidance.
Wolf - Is best at building and repairing guns and spaceships. Can not work collaboratively. Do not pair him up with anyone else unless you want to witness a fight.
Villagers - Definitely. These cheeky little dudes are excellent craftsmen and are natural-born leaders. Their cities and islands wouldn't be where they were today without them.
Mega Man - He was originally created to be an assistant to Dr. Light, so chances are he probably would be pretty good at helping with a project.
Wii Fit Trainers - No. They're too focused on exercise to know how to do anything else.
Rosalina & Luma - Absolutely! Rosalina created an entire functional Comet Observatory, for Pit's sake!
Little Mac - His hands are made for punching, not building.
Greninja - Probably not due to zero interest and zero experience.
The Mii Fighters - A troop of train wrecks. I can't see these guys getting anything done, especially if they're in the same room with each other.
Palutena - She's a goddess. She could probably build whatever she wants.
Pac-Man - Not unless he has plenty of Power Pellets to eat. This guy gets cranky and demotivated on an empty stomach.
Robin - This tactician has no building skills whatsoever aside from making D&D models.
Shulk - Can repair weapons with ease, but doesn't have much experience otherwise. If he's really feeling it though, he'll stop at nothing to make sure that whatever he builds is perfectly functional.
Bowser Jr. & The Koopalings - Now here's a crafty bunch. All of them have immaculate crafting skills and can find a way to make something no matter what you give them. Putting them all together, you have one hell of a construction crew. If only they'd use their building skills for something other than mischief...
Duck Hunt - Tries, but fails every single time (which is kinda expected considering neither of them have opposable thumbs). The sheriffs usually have to step in and take over.
Ryu - With his calm mind and big, strong arms, I think he'd hit the nail on the head (more so with construction projects than with anything technological).
Ken - He doesn't have the calm mind, but he does have the strong arms, so I think that would count for something (also more so with construction projects than with anything technological).
Cloud - Yes, but is more well-versed in weaponry and some forms of technology. It's not one of his most prominent skills, but it's something he has under his belt.
Corrin - They don't have much experience due to their upbringing, which makes them a little clueless to the process as a result. However, they'd be quick to learn if another fighter showed them how to build something.
Bayonetta - Would rather have others do it for her, and if anyone has any complaints, they better ask their mum how to speak to a lady.
Inklings - No. It wouldn't be long for it to turn into a turf war.
Ridley - Would rather burn everything to the ground.
Simon - Is resourceful when it comes to constructing weapons and preparing holy water. Has more knowledge about old-school structures than modern ones.
Richter - Same as Simon, except that his knowledge extends to different types of traps as well.
King K. Rool - This is the type of stuff he has minions for.
Isabelle - Doesn't have any experience when it comes to building itself, but would be excellent at organization.
Incineroar - Would be good at it if he focused enough, but unfortunately this is not the case. Would somehow turn the whole thing into a competition and crush whatever he built if he didn't win.
Piranha Plant - Doesn't know how to build stuff and doesn't care either. Would probably eat the materials, as well as those trying to use them.
Joker - Yes, he's crafted various items that are useful for phantom thievery and is smart enough to comprehend how things are put together.
Hero - Also yes, especially if all of them are working together.
Banjo & Kazooie - I can see Banjo being good at building things, but Kazooie might have some problems.
Terry - Better at knocking things down than building things up, unless he's giving you a pep talk.
Byleth - They've definitely got the smarts for it. I wonder if there's a unit on architecture in their lesson plan...
Min-Min - Yes, she's pretty good at pottery when using her normal arms. Don't expect her to be able to build anything with her battle arms, though.
Steve & Alex - I don't even need to answer this one.
Sephiroth - Would rather burn everything to the ground x2.
Pyra - Not really due to inexperience, but is interested in learning how to forge weapons. Is great at working with others collaboratively.
Mythra - Also not great, except she'll try to learn stuff herself and would be too stubborn to accept help (which usually doesn't end too well).
Kazuya - Typically pays others to do it for him. Firmly believes that his hands were not meant to create but to destroy.
Sora - Yes, but he'd need help and assistance from others, especially if there's something he's stuck on. He's a firm believer that two heads (or more, if possible) are better than one.
Note: These are just my headcanons. Some characters I am less familiar with than others, though I tried my best to do some background research on them. If there is some sort of discrepancy here, please kindly let me know, and I will revise it.

Why is it that every time I join a new fandom, I end up falling for the traumatized assholes?
Or most kinds of assholes, really. I keep a wide variety of them in the fictional crush section.

I might start revising some (if not all) of my Smash headcanons... After going back and rereading them, some of them are pretty stale, not gonna lie.
