This is 30: Part One

Oh, Chicago, I love you so. For B's 30th, we spent a fast and furious weekend in one of my favorite cities. I'll cover the sites here; food and drinks need their own post. Here's how this northeastern girl describes Chicago: NYC's size with Boston's personality. Basically perfection.

We had to take a picture at The Bean! I'm pretty sure selfies originated here, so no shame on this one.

It was so neat to see a beach smack in the middle of the city. It was a hot one, and I was veryyyy tempted to jump in.

Art. Is. Everywhere. in Chicago. These mosaic-y poles reminded me of Park Guell in Barcelona. Except that they're in an L station in the middle of the United States.

The city was so alive during our trip. People were running, biking, boating, swimming, etc. Again, I love all the water flowing between the beautiful buildings. We didn't take a boat tour, but that's on our agenda for the next trip.

The lovely professional photographer who worked for the Cubs offered to take this first photo with my camera. I'm pretty sure that's not allowed, considering I will never need to buy her picture now. BUT, I'll take it. This trip to Wrigley is a bucket list completion.

We walked for miles and miles and miles. Day and night. There was something neat to see and do everywhere we turned. The short trip left me wanting more of this great city.

Things that make my morning: notes from grandma with her recipe for blueberry muffins (my absolute favorite thing she makes!)

Took a quick afternoon break to see my cousins and uncle! They were driving from ATL to DC on college visits (all the way from MA!) #family

We're going to Chicago on Friday to celebrate B's 30th birthday! I've been once, for work, in December. I had a few free hours to "see" the city, but that's about it (plus it was so so cold).

What should we do/see/eat/drink?

This weekend was a good one. Rosé and dinner with friends on Friday; Raleigh's newest bakery, time at the pool, and a longggg walk through Umstead on Saturday; chores and me time on Sunday.

Love City: St. John, USVI

I hesitate to tell you how much I loved St. John. I selfishly want to keep this island to myself, a secret treasure all my own. I dare to say it’s the prettiest place I’ve ever been.

A warm, pink sunset greeted us on our first night, and I was immediately in love.

We spent a week sipping coffee with this view from our porch.

We hiked and swam and happy-houred our way through the days.

We met a local pig and celebrated his birthday at sunset.

We feasted on seafood, chased wild donkeys, met loads of friends, and took a boat excursion to the British Virgin Islands. It was a perfectly lovely vacation and I left a piece of my heart on that little island. We’ll be back, St. John. You can count on that.

Apparently yesterday was Sisters' Day. I'm lucky enough to have three younger sisters who I love and miss every day. Kelli is home in Massachusetts, Ashley is in Connecticut about to start her sophomore year at UCONN, and our little Meredith moves to Indianapolis in two weeks to start her freshman year at Butler. You ladies are my heart.
