after an exceptionally euphoric day i spent two hours dancing naked in my empty home, shouting nonsense lyrics to whatever songs came on, half-conscious and dizzy from half a bottle of wine. i think i'm beginning to understand what the bacchanalias might have felt like

Incredibly hilarious to me when I see people quote things from TSH and attribute them to Donna Tartt. It is true, she wrote those words, but it just gets me when I see some crazy shit one of the members said presented in that way. Like: β€˜β€™I prefer to think of it as redistribution of matter.’ -Donna Tartt’

My headcannon for Henry Winter (The Secret History) is that if he listened to some tecno music he'd be amazed like a victorian child and he wouln't want to do a bacchanal anymore, just go to raves.
I think he would find that type of music primal and wild and would like it like some type of guilty pleasure.

I'm at the 530 page of The Secret History and I feel for Richard so deeply, because I was also once in a similiar situation he got in - not literal murders, crimes and alcohol, but it has also changed my life in a significantly horrible way. 3 years ago I have dropped my friends and became friends-for-life with this one girl - I (like Richard) have fallen for the aesthetics of being friends with her as well. Makeup, ”Bestie Sleepovers” with face masks, selfies and long Netflix-sessions at her modern, and as fabolous as she was, home. Her previous friend with diabetics and a crazy mom has been abandoned and we have gossiped about her a lot, it may even count as bullying - even tho I wasn't as involved in it as the ’queen’ herself; she moved schools. Sometimes I still feel the bitter taste of the first-ever realisation that I've ruined her life. It wasn't until like a year or two have passed and the rose colored glasses have fallen and shattered with a loud noise - she was well, a bitch. She was mean, manipulative, and very self-centered. Suddenly the ’aesthetics’ of our friendship that was once the most exciting aspect in my bland and boring life has been degraded to something as meaningless as the left wrapper of an already eaten chocolate bar. And what was I left with? My dearest childhood friend that used to be my best friend for life has moved schools, my friendship with my another childhood friend has well, got a bit lost in the sea and waves of the fabulous and glamorous ’Regina George’ of my life. And all of it just for the mere aesthetics of the stereotypical normal girlhood I have always craved for, just as Richard who has been craving for the esoteric..
This was a bit of a rant but now the stone that was laying on my heart has lightly decreased in size. If you've read this, thank you - and I hope you never find yourself in a situation like me. I have made up with my previous child hood best friend who has moved schools this year, improved my relationship with the other friend I had and got treated by the ’princess’ like the girl we bullied together got; switched, left, abandoned. But at least I still have one or two people to talk to, and she didn't.. I apologized many times and I hope she's now happy and met many other, better people.
