In my last post, I said that Yucca and Peach's drawings were months apart, but looking at the dates they're only a month apart with Yucca's being from yesterday and Peach's from September 16th. Could have sworn there was more time in between, but I guess not lol

Concepts, Sketches, and WIPs

It's been a while so here's a little update of some things I've been working on! There's not a whole lot here since most of this time has been spent on world building and writing, but I do have some stuff to show.

First up is what was ORIGINALLY part of Inktober, but it slipped through the cracks pretty much immediately lmao. Using this mainly to start getting a stronger idea of Ridgeland's territory but also drawing characters I haven't drawn in a long time. From closest to farthest you have Echo, Cinder, Shrew, and Maple. Echo and Shrew are long time hiking buddies and opted to bring their daughters with them on this outing. HOPEFULLY I'll have this one finished soon.

These are the warmups I did of Echo(left) and Shrew(right) before starting on the hiking sketch. I'm still in the stage of trying to figure out effective ways to translate designs I made intended for quadrapedal characters into bipedal designs so any warmups of this nature are also experimental. I do think when I made these, I just about hit a stride I like, though!

Next up are these character concepts. These were drawn up several months apart. The first is a character named Yucca who lived LONG before the current time Falling Stars takes place in. Her background is pretty important to the lore, so I can't get much into it at the moment, unfortunately. The next is named Peach, and she's a cat of Pluoca. She was the first character I had drawn in the current style, and so this sketch laid the groundwork going forward. I'll get more into her story when I get around to doing proper character sheets later on.

Now onto two flag designs/sketches that are bound to change a bit, one for Ridgeland(left) and one for Rusland(right). I was thinking of having hairly consistent flag designs between the different nations, but I'm not sure if I'll be sticking to that in the end. Not TOO fond of Ridgeland's flag, honestly, but I do like Rusland's sketch a lot.

And finally, some sketches from when I just started reworking Falling Stars! The first is a set of sketches I made trying to figure out how I wanted to draw the cats upright, VERY trial and error. Peach's sketch came from this page. The second is an idea I had for what animals the cats may have domesticated, but I ended up scrapping it for something else. Still kinda like it, considering I hadn't drawn a Pronghorn before then.

I present to you the messiest kind of topographic map ever.

Don't get too terribly used to this map it's going to end up drastically different by the time the territories are better developed. It's mostly to help me visualize the groups' size and relative area while I slowly nail down borders, landmarks, paths, towns, etc. The locations of each group will be consistent from here on out though so at least that'll be consistent lmao.

There are several areas of significance outside the main territories, but they're farther down the list of things to rework and develop.

Oh! This map also has the new current names for reach group.

Ridgeclan -> Ridgeland Meadowclan -> Rusland Shoreclan -> Meryda Mill Cats -> Pluoca

Meryda is still bugging me a little so it's possibly subject to change in the future.

Howdy and hello yall! It's been a whole TWO YEARS since anything's been added to this blog, but I am FINALLY getting back to working on the Falling Stars project!! All of my characters and their world are currently in redevelopment because I've decided to remove them from the Warrior Cats universe and let them grow into their own unique thing^^ The old art will stay up, but is no longer canon. I can't wait to really dig into the project and share my progress to yall^^

Going through my folders for a project and found this reference for Pinestripe that never went up. I was still trying to figure out how I wanted my character references to look and this one isn't too bad. Her design itself is one of my absolute favorites though.

Pinestripe is a senior warrior in Meadowclan and the mate of deputy Eagleflight.

Okay so I threw this Ridgeclan tree together real quick for instagram then decided to share it here too.

The only note here is that Sageleap is Jaggedleaf's GRANDmother not mother like it shows here. I menat to add a note and forgot and honestly this was slapped together quickly for an instagram story I'll just clarify that when I go to make the actual family trees when all the charts are done.

Oof this blog has been inactive! I'll be starting another project with Falling Stars characters sometime this month and it'll require me drawing up refs for a LOT of characters I haven't gotten to show yall yet. What I'm aiming to do is draw them all up and queue them so there's not such a massive gap in between activity on here.

Working on designing some Shoreclan cats starting with Flintfeather! I started with some loose drawings to figure out how I wanted her to look and feel. I ended up pretty happy with how they looked so I'll go ahead and post them.

Note!

When I'm posting characters to this blog, I'm posting them how'd they'd appear in the beginning of the comic I'm writing for them. This is why Barleytail is posted as Barleypaw atm.

On a related note, I'm posting about Barleypaw as a non-villian despite it being open knowledge he's a villian later on. That's because I've posted about him being a villian for like... Idk 3 years now? So I don't care if thats known yet or not, I'll just be keeping his actual plan and actions vague for now😉. That being said, Barleytail isn't the only villian/antagonistic force in this story either so there's still room for suprises on that front!

Barleypaw

Ridgeclan Medicine Cat Apprentice

Mother: Oakfire

Siblings: Rosepaw

Mentor: Halfclaw

Barleypaw is the Ridgeclan Medicine Cat Apprentice. He gets along well enough with his own clanmates, but tends to be rude or hostile towards cats from other clans including the Medicine Cats. Despite this, he is proving to be quite compentant for the position of Medicine Cat.

Barleypaw doesn't have any real friendships with other apprentices including his sister Rosepaw, but he has befriended a young tom named Badgerkit. Barleypaw and Badgerkit both find themselves feeling a bit outcasted from their clan and find familiarity in that.

Like his relationship with his clanmates, Barleypaw doesn't have a real relationship with his mother Oakfire either. Not one worth having anyway, he resents her quite a bit for being so harsh on him and emotionally distant. Oakfire chose to keep the father of her kits a secret as well which Barleytail didn't take well either since it stirred up rumors of him and his sister being half-clan cats.

Walnutglow is the Shoreclan medicine cat. She’s an easy-going she-cat who gets along with all her clanmates and fellow medicine cats.

Walnutglow has always maintained a strong relationship with Meadowclan medicine cats, she’s the first to offer herbs in need and provide escort to the Mill Cats.

Walnutglow was born with a solid black coat that lightened into shades of brown and rust over time. Her medicine cat Bloom is Sweet Woodruff.

Shoreclan Medicine Cat Apprentice

Mentor: Wallnutglow

Walleyepaw is a medicine cat apprentice of Shoreclan. He's devoted to his medicine cat duties and does them well, leading him to the possibility of being one of the youngest cats to pass the Medicine Cat Assessment.

Walleyepaw is more emotionally driven than his peers and has difficulty handling problems that revolve around his own feelings. He often forces his emotional troubles down to avoid the stress of addressing them. As you would expect, this is mostly to his detriment.

Conflict of interest has caused Walleyepaw to grow distant from his kin leaving him feeling lonely at times. He finds companionship in his fellow Med Cats, particularly the new Meadowclan apprentice Tawnypaw. Aside from his mentor, he's also befriended a cat in his own clan, a fellow apprentice Redpaw.
