Just remembered I never properly gave my opinion on Battalion Wars 2 on here. I have since finished it so I probably should.

I actually enjoyed it a lot! It has some pitfalls but it had a really nice charm to it throughout.

The gameplay was fun, characters were enjoyable when on-screen, controls could be a but iffy but that really just a problem with the Wii, the story was more than a bit nonsensical but was presented in a way that still made it fun to watch, music was good,

Overall I'm excited to go and play the first game when I get the opportunity to and I've been (slowly) trying to figure out how to draw the characters, so don't be suprised if I end up posting about BW in the future.

I had to get this screengrab from a youtube video. I tried to look at the Wiki to see if there were any there, but the Wars Wiki is unfortunately very bare bones in probably too many ways. Maybe I should talk about that sometime

I have, after who knows how long of owning the game, started playing Battalion Wars 2

I have both 1 and 2 and I was holding off on playing them until my Wii got fixed to play the first game since I don't have a GameCube, but I finally caved and just started playing BWii on my WiiU

Very much enjoying it so far; characters are fun as well. I like the one with the grating voice and the tragic hairline

Top: official artwork for Game Boy Wars, the Japanese-only second game in the Famicom Wars series (known internationally as the Advance Wars series due to that being the first game that was released outside of Japan).

Middle: cartridge art an for unauthorized 999-in-1 game cartridge for the Famicom, which makes a unique stylistic decision to base the illustration on the Game Boy Wars art, but set the location inside the Mushroom Kingdom and thus turn it into a battlefield.

Bottom: the original Japanese box art for Super Mario Bros., which is the other half of the inspiration for the bootleg artwork. Note the similar fortress, sky, ground, and Blooper in the water.

I don't use Twitter very often, but when I do, it's usually to look up AW related stuff since the fanbase is pretty much dead on every other site besides Reddit. To my surprise, I came across this tweet from the one and only Didyouknowgaming asking a question I could actually answer. Hopefully I wasn't too late to respond.

Though to my suprise, the links didn't work. I guess nintendo finally took down some of their older pages, at least relating to N.O.M, which is a real shame. I had to bust out the wayback machine to source my claim

May or may not be useful, I'm definitely not good at identifying uniforms, but I have seen some sort of hat similar to his on some SS uniforms before, even worn off center like Billy does. Some of the uniforms I've seen also have similar coloring to Billy's, mainly black with white highlights, so maybe they were an inspiration for his design? Just combined with some generic formal-wear so that he still reads as a little rich kid as well as a commander? I might just be over-analyzing his design though.

Or at least, a closer look at what exactly Billy's hat is supposed to be.

I keep writing leather because the white on Billy's hat reads as the shine of the light bouncing off leather. The hat looks closest Rojenki's and Fon Rosso's berets but it's noticeably smaller in the chibi body sprites and there's that slight white in the face portrait. It really reads more like a decoration for me because at least Rojenski/Fon Rosso's mostly covers their heads, with the hats just perched forward for style. Billy's hat looks like it's dangerously gonna slip off his face any second, unless it's pinned to his hair, like again, for decoration.
