Hii, i absolutely love your art and your totourials are some of the best ive met. Soo i wanted to ask you if you have any tips for drawing in the arcana charm style (wonderland, spring wedding) if you dont have time then it's completely fine also :) Hope you have a nice day! :D

This will be more tips and observations than tutorial because I haven’t tried this style nearly enough to give proper advice, but here are the things I noticed when trying to draw it.

As a note, though, there are slight differences between the Spring Wedding and Wonderland styles which I’ll try to highlight.

The first, and most distinct, aspect of the style to consider is the lineart. This style’s draw is attention in drawn detail rather than rendering.

The lineart is thin but with varying weight. It gets thinner for fabric details, getting thickers at corners, curves, and around the outline of the character.  A lot of attention is given the hair, flowers, and clothing folds. The lineart is coloured, but unlike the Arcana style, it doesn’t change depending on the base colour.

For the Spring Wedding charms, the outline is an ink blue, while the inner lineart is a mid brown. There’s no shading, instead being flat coloured. Details and patterns on the clothing tends to be painted, rather than lined. Metals, hair, or anything else reflective don’t shine.

In contrast to the character, the back panel has a gradient, getting lighter towards the bottom. It has a single lineart colour, often being a desaturated pink/brown. This also lightens with the gradient. The backdrop consists of flowers and a decorative panel that frames their head.

The poses are simple but elegant sitting poses, as if the character is sitting on a sofa, posing for a portrait.

For the Wonderland charms, the brown lineart is used for most colours, though a blue is used for black/dark blue. Unlike the Spring Wedding charms, the outline is instead black.

The character is framed by or sits on a single, large item and is then surrounded by two smaller items. The poses are fittingly more dynamic than before, but still consist of sitting/lounging poses, though with more interaction with their environments.

One thing I can’t quite figure out is whether the eyes have whites to them. Either way, the significant blush on the face doesn’t extend into them. They’re drawn smaller/more realistically proportioned to the Arcana style. The face is similarly drawn with one lineart colour. The irises are simple blocks of one colour with a small white shine in the corner.

The lips are well defined. The top lip is darker and the lower lip can have a shine to it. The nose is simple, consisting of a thin line for the bridge and a small dot for the nostril.

Proportionally, the characters have similar proportions to the Arcana. They’re slender but otherwise are realistic enough.

I think that’s all the notes I have for now. I hope this can be helpful :D

Hi, I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I adore your arcana style cgs and I was wondering if you had any tips for replicating the arcana style?

m, this is a bit tricky to answer because I’m not confident enough in how I draw the style to make any sort of guide. But in trying to replicate it, I kind of noticed some things?

Note: I like to learn styles through deconstruction and looking at processes. I recommend watching the CG timelapse at 0.25x speed here (x) and looking at some of the CG process/concept art here (x)

This is a transcription of the entirety of Books I-V of the visual novel The Arcana (excepting paid scenes). 

The point of this transcript is for fans and fanfic writers to use as an easy reference if, like me, you find being able to ctrl+F a text doc much less of a hassle than skimming through images or video; or for anyone who might be interested in checking The Arcana out but who for whatever reason can’t do phone games or video, or prefer to read straight-up text. 

I definitely encourage anyone interested in the game to download it though! Aside from having stellar story and prose, the art and music is gorgeous. 

I feel like this should be obvious but, just in case it isn’t, I’m not affiliated with The Arcana or Nix Hydra in any way.

More of an Arcana style guide to go with my colouring guide.

I tried to cover key aspects that make the style distinct so I hope this can be useful :D

A guide on my process for colouring like in the Arcana which I developed through studying the style.

Now, this is just for sprites or for neutral lighting. In the case of most memories/CGs, you have more interesting colours to use, but the process is identical. There are just extra steps.

Using my favourite memories for each character as examples (hopefully, you can tell which ones) you can see this process. All of this happens on layers above the base drawing.

Usually, you set a colour-filled layer to the setting “multiply” over the entire drawing, then using a “screen”, “add”, or “hard light” layer, you add the lighting. Depending on the intensity of the lighting, the outline will be coloured to be lighter.

The shading colour rarely changes, aside from slight hue changes.

Misc advice/tips/tricks below. I may update it depending on if I get further questions.

Hello, I was just wondering what could I say about my gemsona? I've noticed people writing a little bio about their gemsonas and I was just wondering if you could give me any suggestions and ideas for what I could write about? Thank you!:)

Most people use the format that was used for gemsona submissions during Gemsona-Week, which was:

Tumblr user astrotheology also made a “Let’s Make a Gemsona!” template which helps flush out your gemsona’s allegences and backstory more. 

Both templates are great starting points if you don’t know what to say about your gemsona!

What would be a good strategy to making a gem's personality to first timers?

There’s a lot of things to think about when making a gemsona’s personality! Here’s some main things to think about:

Gem Meaning

If you’re absolutely stumped, look up your gemstone’s meaning! We have a Gemstone Meaning page just for sites to help you look up your gemsona’s gem meaning. Ex: Say you have an Ajoite gemsona. Ajoite is a gem that brings peace, acceptance, and understanding, so maybe their personality would be peaceful and compassionate, and maybe they would be some sort of diplomat from the Homeworld. 

Your gemsona’s personality doesn’t have to relate to their gem’s meaning (heck, sometimes it can be fun to give them a personality completely opposite of their gemstone’s meaning!) but it’s certainly a good place to start.

Backstory

Maybe you don’t know their personality, but you know their backstory. If they’re a Rebel gem, they probably have a strong will and a strong sense of justice (challenging the Homeworld takes guts!). Their experiences shape them just as much as our experiences shape us- maybe they fell off a cliff once and had to reform because of it so now they’re scared of heights, maybe they’re a warrior for the Homeworld and they’re extremely loyal, etc. 

Use a template!

The Gemsona Week’s and astrotheology’s “Let’s Make A Gemsona!” templates are wonderful starting points in my opinion (you can find both here).

Make it up as you go!

No one’s personality is set in stone- if you want to make a gem who’s shy but later want them to be tough and loud, do it! You can always start by giving them aspects of your personality then go from there.
