Is the home secretary saying the UK government is going to stop people who support Palestine immigrating to the UK? Am I reading this correctly?

This. I've been feeling guilty about not shutting down my driving instructors sexist/transphobic comments but he doesn't charge as much as other instructors and I don't have a lot of money
A lot of sentiments I see online about "just standing up for yourself" fall apart when considering that a common consequence of "standing up for yourself" is losing a key part of your current support network. It's hard to tell someone to stop being transphobic to you when you carpool with them to work, and it'll get a lot more expensive without them. Can your budget tolerate that cost, or is it the expense that stretches you too far? It's hard to tell someone that they need to be more polite to you when they're the one who helps walk you through legalese. Can you find someone else to do it for you, or are you left floundering? It's hard to tell someone to stop being sexist to you when they're the one writing your reference letter. Do you have someone else who can be your reference, or are they the only one whose letter would be accepted?
In order to be able to stand up for yourself, you need to be able to bear the potential consequence of that person leaving. You need to either have redundancy in your network, or be able to pay for what they did for you. Safety is about more than if someone will hit you.

Reblogging today for siblings sexual assault awareness month this is a very important but underrepresented subject we need to start talking about
April 15th is sibling sexual assault awareness day
Between the ages of 8 and 12 I was assaulted physically and sexually by a sibling I blamed myself and felt disgusting and terrified someone would find out about what happened. I have a lot of mixed feelings towards that sibling as it's easy to see how my parents parenting style could cause their behaviour and as someone who has also experienced my parents I feel like I should be showing solidarity but on the other hand I have a lot of physical and mental issues that are likely linked to it.
I could never get away from them since they lived in the same house as me which led to me developing severe anxiety and struggling with leaving my room which I have mostly recovered from. I still don't trust anyone really. I have low self esteem, emotional instability, an eating disorder and a really bad memory. I struggle to concentrate and constantly feel detached from my body and the world. Because my body has been in survival mode for so long I also suffer physical side effects like chronic pain, fatigue, a weakened immune system, breathlessness and tics. The way I interact with anyone has been altered I don't trust people, I deliberately make people angry at me to see if they will respond in the same way as my abuser, I try to control the emotional states of the people around me and I only ever have surface level conversations with any of my family. And this list of symptoms is massively reduced from the list I had three years ago when I started recovering.
I'm not sharing this information for sympathy I want to raise awareness because if I realised what was happening to me wasn't normal I could have saved myself a lot of heartache.
Despite children being more likely to be assaulted by a sibling or step sibling than parent sibling sexual assault (or SSA) is incredibly underrepresented and under researched so many people go through their lives carrying the trauma of SSA and don't even realise what happened to them so I wanted to make a post about SSA and also my experience with it.
Dear survivors of SSA your assault was valid
-even if you are older than your abuser
-even if you thought you enjoyed it at the time
-even if you were both young
-even if you never told anyone
-even if you were told it's normal

Just a reminder about the guidance the government has drafted on transgender students saying that schools must put them to their parents and that social transition should be greatly restricted. In light of the cass report we have to make a statement and tell the government we won't let them get away with there onslaught of transphobia. Sign the petition to get the guidance removed here:
Or read about what it entails here

There's still time to protect trans students from these guidelines
Using my gimmick blog for good I know I haven't posted on here for ages but I'm back with a petition
So basically the government has posted a draft of guidelines which would prevent students from socially transitioning and force schools to out trans and non binary students amongst other things you can read the full guidelines on the UK government website there has been a public consultation on the guidance and the government will be responding to it soon. Please sign the petition to prevent transphobia against children.

Gotta love (/s) how the UK government seems to be incapable of acting to reduce the impact of climate change but has managed to plan and succeed to further restrict immigration by ending the ability of nearly all students to bring dependants to the UK
-restricting care workers from bringing family members (at a time where we desperately need more care workers)
-requiring care providers to register with the Care Quality Commission if they are sponsoring migrant care workers
-commissioning the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) to carry out a rapid review of the Graduate route for international students to prevent abuse, protect the integrity and quality of UK higher education and ensure it works in the best interests of the UK
-increasing the minimum salary required for those arriving on the Skilled Worker visa, from £26,200 to £38,700
-closing 150 asylum hotels

I genuinely think humans are naturally good and kind when external forces such as capitalism aren't frightening them into only acting in their best interests.
For example the fish doorbell. Fish looking for a place to spawn get stuck waiting for the weerdsluis lock to open so they can carry on swimming to a breeding ground the fish doorbell is a live stream where you can look out for fish if you see a fish you tap the doorbell icon on the fish doorbell website I checked and it said 942 people were also looking at the live stream last time I was there. Despite everything going on in the world 942 people took time out of there day to check if a fish needed them to ring a doorbell and that is the kind of thing I think human nature really is about.
People are brilliant and thoughtless and funny and easily swayed towards prejudice but also caring and driven to apathy sometimes but we're also bloody resilient and so much more.

Maybe we should all start trying to be compassionate to people who fake disorders for attention, you've got to be in a pretty bad headspace to wake up and think to yourself "today I'm going to put hours into faking an illness so people will pay attention to me" and Munchausen syndrome is a real thing that affects real peoples lives

I'm doing accentism in my English a level right now and this shit is a genuine problem that limits people's education and job prospects we're mainly focused on English accents and dialects but the common trend is accents like MLE and MBE which are the accents associated with POC and accents like Scouse and cockney accents associated with working class people are the ones that are treated the worst. Society tells us so many aspects of minorities are undesirable.
if you give “stupid” characters rural/southern accents i don’t like you and if you give “smart” characters rural/southern accents but it’s a punchline i don’t like you even more

Daily reminder that we do not actually live in a dystopian movie put the apocalypse down and back away slowly. You know when your cleaning a room and you pull everything out of it's draws to sort through it and you're like "what the fuck have I done I'm never going to be able to tidy all of this" I think that's the stage we're at in the world. Thanks to social media we've pulled out all the messed up shit from the cupboards of the world, it was always there but now we can see it and we're going to have to sort it all out we made this mess and we can fix it. Falling to the floor sobbing will not clean a crusty room. A group of people working systematically (preferably with music in the background) will.

Reminder that there's still time to tell the UK government where they can shove their transphobic new guidance on kids who want to socially transition
This consultation is open until March 12th make sure the government knows we will not stand by and let this happen

Very bored right now and just noticed something.
This:
Tumblr media
Is the logo of first news a newspaper aimed at children to help them get involved with the world around them. The first issue of first news was created in May 2006.
This:
Tumblr media
Is the logo of a nationalist newspaper which is very biased right wing it was first broadcast in June 2021 and has gotten lots of backlash for its bigoted opinions
I was looking at the website and the newspaper and maybe this is a bit of a stretch but there's a massive amount of similarity between the two logos since GB news was created after first news (even the names seem quite similar) I'd argue that GB news was intentionally created to seem similar to first news. Young people who are just starting to learn about the news and may be unable to spot bias would probably be more likely to listen to GB news as it is familiar (like how people buy products they see in adverts because their familiar) making it easier for the right to radicalise kids

Anyone who reblogs this post will have their user written on a poster saying "We Stand With Palestine" that I hope to put up somewhere in the village I live in, or the town that the village is next to.

Transphobes want us to be arguing about whether trans men or trans women are more oppressed to distract us from the question of why any of us are oppressed

Absolutely this but be careful because where I live they hid razor blades in the poster so it cut you if you try to take it down
To anyone wondering if it's worth it to tear down fascist posters or whatever. I spent a few months last year engaged in silent battle with another student at my school who was putting anti trans stickers up everywhere. I had it down to a system where every night I would walk the five block radius they went up in, and tear down all the ones I could reach, and use a stick to put duct tape over the others. Like, within hours of the stickers going up, I would have already purged the whole zone. I knew the basic schedule of whoever put them up based on when and where the stickers appeared. I probably could have found them in person if I'd wanted to. And I told all my classmates and friends what the stickers looked like and got them to rip them down too. And after a few months of this, the stickers slowed, and then stopped forever.
My point is, a lot of this fashy or right wing stuff is one local weirdo. And if you pay attention, and do a little light organizing with your friends, you can basically make their efforts into a giant sisyphisean exercise in misery. You control your streets!
