The Secret Dual Lives of People Living With Mental Illness

Liz Obert feels the dual life she led for so long isn’t unique for people who suffer from mental illnesses and who “must mask their symptoms in order to function in the outside world.”

In 2013, she decided to begin a series that dealt with the realities of what it means to put on a brave face while simultaneously coping with forms of depression. Starting with herself, Obert took two photos: one that showed the person she chooses to present to the world, and a second portrait that presented an image of how she existed behind closed doors when feeling depressed.

“I hope to give a glimpse to the viewer about the internal lives of people who struggle with disorders that are often misunderstood,” she wrote in an artist statement about the series “Dualities.”

So far she has made 10 dual portraits and is hoping to expand on the project, but finding willing participants hasn’t been easy.

“A lot of people are free and open about it,” Obert said. “But I’ve definitely approached people who were like no way, this is too public.”

She feels a lot of it has to do with an ongoing stigma about mental illness in the United States.

The character's name in that series are Ted Mosby, Robin Scherbatsky, Lily Aldrin, Barney Stinson, and Marshall Ericsson) Thank you Kania, it is exactly the same version, with different step-by-step. Aaaaaah that was cute & lovely words. Thank you my junior high school, course, collage, business, office mate soon to be💓 6. Surprise from my little family in collage that was my HRD Family or I always called 'SuperB' (HRD it was my division at IMA sc IT Telkom, at 2013-2014 period IMA sc IT Telkom trusted me to be a director for that division. It was fun & I enjoyed to be director for my friendly, strong, open minded partner here) thank you so much Kharisma Meccasia, Ayulia Fitriane, Zumar Hasani, Gilang Ramadhan, Yoga Dias Novianto, Nadya, Ridho Yunianto, Hanu Handriadma & Galih Arisona. They're more than just my partner, they are my little family❤️ 7. The last photo that was belated birthday surprise from Zakiy Azizah & Feby Rizky Hadiyanti. Both of them are my best friend since I was in junior high school (actually I have the other two of my best, they are Tantia Cita Dewanti Fudhail & Devina Pramudita) they are my best partner in crime, and we're bond like sisters I though. Lately, I've been stalking this cuties!!! Their name are Fleur & Lily. Really excited when they uploaded new post in instagram. They are twins but they are not an identic twins, as we can see they have a different hair & tooth. But they have the same cutie pie smiles & lovely eyes😍😍 yay I know, God is Fair! I adore their style, they have really really reaaaaallyyyyyy good in style and it fits with their age. Fashionable but not too much, simple, no make up, no high heels.
