Hello, Ellington. I have a question for you…

After Snicket killed the person you most loved, did you decide to enact your revenge upon him in a similar way? Sorry, I guess that’s the wrong question. What I really mean is: Ellington Feint, did you start the Baudelaire fire?

while there is a storied history between me and mr. snicket, i can tell you one thing for free: i did not start that fire. what would i gain? following in the footsteps of my father, only for my life to end in hatred? of course not. while it took many years to understand and, ultimately, forgive him, i did. snicket did not do it to directly hurt me, thus, revenge would be ultimately fruitless

furthermore, i can tell you that i do know who (likely) started that fire. i know lots of things about VFD, despite not being among its ranks. its made an everlasting impression on my life. and i am at no obligation of secrecy while holding this information, which leads to some…interesting things.
