Here at last, on the shores of the sea...
This message comes with a heavy heart, and an explanation, as we say goodbye to a chapter within the FOTFICS' three year run.
We three mods have come to the decision to let fellowshipofthefics come to an end - we have grown busy in our own lives, making it hard to keep up the work on this blog, while interests have also diverged. It takes a great deal of time, effort, and care to run a blog like this, and let it be known that we have enjoyed our three years here on Tumblr, and on Discord!
We are not deactivating the blog, so you can still find the stories we've shared and the games/events we have hosted. Who knows, maybe we'll get the itch to pick this blog back up again, so we're keeping it just in case.
All three of us still love Tolkien, there just comes a time when we need to put ourselves first, and this is it.
We want to thank each and every one of you for your participation and encouragement, it's been a lot of fun, and the THAUC event was something special to all of us! What started out as a celebration for a Hobbit 10 year anniversary gig, turned into a fun event for three years straight! We've welcomed veterans, newcomers, and everyone in between, and seen some amazing creativity over these past three years, and we hope to see more!
With that, we hope you understand our decision to let this blog grow dormant for now, and our Discord server will shut down at the end of the year.
Have a safe holiday, a happy new year, and don't forget:
I will not say "do not weep," for not all tears are an evil.

teaser thursday
in honor of working on the 3rd annual THAUC collaboration (yet again), here's a teaser of my upcoming piece, titled "scholars and skillets". enjoy!
“Listen, Kíli,” Balin interjected. “Get yourself settled, we’re on a busy schedule for today.”
Kíli groaned again and you came to realize that he was not matching the image of him you had conjured up in your head. It was hard to believe that this lazy dwarf was the same Prince who had joined Balin on his journey to Erebor.
“Alright, alright. Give me a few minutes, I’ll get dressed.” He shut the door on both of you and you couldn’t hide the frown on your face.
“Is he usually like this?” You asked Balin, keeping as delicate a tone as possible.
“He sleeps like a mountain now that he has a soft bed every night,” Balin sighed. “But he’s never been a morning person. In any case, now we can get started.”
You nodded in response, choosing to withhold any opinions you currently had about the younger Prince of Erebor. First impressions could always change, after all. Surely it would serve you better to erase the idea of his lazy behavior from your mind. You didn’t know him personally; perhaps he simply just wasn’t a morning person.
Suddenly the door was open again, this time with a much more well-kept Prince behind it. You had to stop yourself from doing a double take; he looked like an entirely different person to you now.
His brown hair was now smoother and brushed and slightly swept out of his face, save for his bangs. Fine dwarven fabric hung from his shoulders as he stepped outside of his room and you had to stop yourself from staring. His brown eyes seemed much more full of life now that he was finally dressed and his face was clean. Altogether, he suddenly looked a lot more royal than before.
“Well, that took you long enough,” Balin commented.
“Beauty can do that, yes,” Kíli retorted with a rather cheeky smirk. You couldn’t help but roll your eyes.
“Well, time waits on no one, much less beauty,” Balin sighed, adjusting his belt as he began trailing away. “Come along now, there’s much to do.”
there's no pressure, but I'd love to see teasers from @loopyloo2610 @shiinata-library and @scyllas-revenge

Yes to raunchy wordplay and innuendo 🙌
Collaboration between two humble masters of smutty crack, @frosticenow and yours truly. There’s also fluff and banter galore! And lots of drunken shenanigans. Even some pining and big schmoopy feelings if you squint.
12,5k words in 7 chapters (only the last, skippable one is NSFW)

Written for THAUC24, the magnificent hobbit-centric event managed by @fellowshipofthefics . Keep your eyes peeled for this and other great collaborative pieces to be available on ao3 soon!
Here’s the link (functional only after reveals!)
Snippet (SFW) after the break. 😏
“You were swaying like a sapling in a storm” Thorin remarked suddenly, breaking the easy silence that had settled amongst them as they cooled off.
“I was not”, Bilbo replied, a little indignantly, coming closer to lean against the railing.
“You looked ready to topple over”, he insisted, the corner of his mouth quirking up, his tone teasing and light in a way that made Bilbo’s heart start rabbiting.
“I definitely wasn’t!” Bilbo replied, crossing his arms over his chest in an attempt to appear indignant and not charmed by what probably wasn’t flirting… or was it?
Thorin glanced at him then, a small, knowing smile playing on his lips. “You were”, he repeated simply. Then, after a pause, he added with a chuckle, “And I wasn’t that far behind you. It seems our Laketown hosts are generous with their ale”.
Bilbo couldn’t help but laugh softly at that. Seeing Thorin so... unguarded, so warm, was both startling and endearing.
For a moment, they stood in companionable silence, the night air cooling their overheated skin.
“Or perhaps you were dizzy after so long watching me”.
Bilbo’s mouth fell open, a strangled sound escaping him. He whipped his head around to look at Thorin, whose expression remained unreadable, his gaze lost in the horizon of stars.
“I… I wasn’t!” Bilbo stammered, though his burning cheeks betrayed him.
Then Thorin turned, his gaze landing on Bilbo with an intensity that made the hobbit’s breath hitch.
“You’re a terrible liar, Master Baggins”, he said, the amusement evident in his voice.
“I…” Bilbo started, but the words faltered. He wasn’t sure what he was going to say. Apologize? Deny it further? Throw himself into the lake out of sheer embarrassment?
Thorin chuckled, a deep, rumbling sound that seemed to vibrate through the cool night air. He stepped closer, his broad frame looming yet somehow not imposing.
“Taradmizu ... You’ve been staring all night”, Thorin repeated, his gaze fixed on Bilbo’s, and then continued, softly at first, then gaining confidence. “You...I… I am… I won’t take offense. But if you want something you must ask. That’s what dwarves do”.

Preview of our upcoming THUAC contribution. Watch @fellowshipofthefics for more!
The boys ate lunch at an open air cafe in the market and then took a nap in the grass with many other hobbits, especially those with youngsters. Fíli quietly marveled to Kíli about how many children there were running around. There were easily as many children on this hill with them right now as there were in the entire community back home. Once they secured the all important spice blend, they continued to enjoy more hobbit food, a bit of music, some more shopping, and general sightseeing. They giggled to each other about how scared some of the Hobbits were of them. “Isn’t that funny? Little old us? Scary? That’s hilarious!” Yet all the while they carried on being tall and brawny, openly wearing weapons, and tromping around super loudly like wild animals.

And all it had taken was a simple pair of glasses to make everything so clear.”

This whole piece has been such a labor of love and we had so much fun with all of our prompts ❤️

Keep your eyes out for the THAUC 2024 @fellowshipofthefics collection reveal on December 15th! @amethystviolist and I will be revealing our collaborative bagginshield fic. Here's a little taste from the summary!
One of the Company families adopts Bilbo so he can become a citizen of Erebor. Unfortunately, not every dwarf is keen on the idea.
Oh, but not because they're xenophobic, quite the opposite: Everyone wants to claim their favorite hobbit burglar as their brother!
“One week,” Bifur grunted in Khuzdul.
“One week,” Dori agreed shortly.
They shook hands over the table as Bilbo tuned back into reality, and the hobbit frowned a little at the battle-ready postures on either side of the table.
He should have known nothing with dwarves would ever be easy.

bagginshield | during the quest | 11k
Along the quest, Bilbo notices how the dwarves are very affectionate and friendly with one another. Specifically, he sees just how Thorin is with his kin, and is a bit disgruntled as he longs for real touch and connection with the would-be-king that treats him so coldly.
@fellowshipofthefics' THAUC 2024 event, partnered with @syenago! Please enjoy a little snippet under the cut!
COMING DECEMBER 15TH!
“You look lost in thought,” Gandalf announced.
Bilbo jumped slightly, the sudden appearance of the wizard shook him from his thoughts. It was off-putting, but not entirely unwelcome.
“I’m not lost,” Bilbo quickly defended, his tone a bit snappish. “I’m precisely where I aim to be, both physically and mentally, thank you very much.”
Determined as he might have sounded as he folded his arms across his chest, Bilbo wasn’t sure he believed anything about his words. He didn’t feel like he knew where he was neither physically nor mentally these days.
“If you insist,” Gandalf puffed around his pipe, having taken a seat a little closer to the hobbit, and staring at him in observation. “Things will get better, I am sure of it.”
“Things? What things?” Better to play dumb than admit there was a lack of fulfillment and adventure on the inside already.
“Just…things. You will see.”
Ominous as ever, Bilbo expected very little else from his wizard companion, but he did take Gandalf’s words to heart. Staring over his shoulder back at the gathered up company, where Dori was now fixing Nori’s braids, Oin and Gloin were exchanging in a loud conversation about a young dwarf named Gimli, and Thorin had a nephew on each side of him, leaning against him like a pillow. Everyone had their place of belonging in that circle around the fire.
Something thudded in Bilbo’s chest uncomfortably.
Uncomfortably, and longingly.
Things will get better.
Oh, how he hoped so.

It's almost time for the THAUC event reveals on Dec 15th hosted by @fellowshipofthefics! I've been working with the amazing @sunnyrosewritesstuff to bring you our collab! This has been a joy to work on and I couldn't ask for a better partner! Without further ado, here is a teaser of Sunny's fabulous writing! ~~~~ They inched up another car length and Thorin was just now beginning to make out the school building. He tapped his fingers on the wheel, looking around his cluttered truck for something more to entertain him than his Queen playlist when his eyes landed on his rearview mirror. This close, he could make out the driver of the car behind him and he blinked before he blinked again. It wasn’t possible. Yet there he was. Bilbo was sitting in the old green Volkswagen, looking as bored as Thorin felt.
Thorin’s immediate thoughts were to ignore him. Their interactions so far have been less than ideal, to put it mildly, and therefore, it was probably in his best interest to just pretend he never saw him. However, that was a lot easier said than done when he was right there in Thorin’s rearview mirror. Throwing his head back against the seat, rubbing his eyes causing his glasses to hike up on his face, blowing a stray curl out of his face. That last one actually had Thorin smiling. He blamed the librarian for being so unintentionally adorable that made him almost ram into the car in front of him. Thorin cursed as he slammed on the brake just barely managing to rear end them. He, on the other hand, wasn’t so lucky.
Thorin felt his truck jump just slightly. He froze thinking maybe he had just imagined it. He looked over to the teacher who was waving them onward and her hand over her mouth told him all he needed to know. He went ahead and looked in his rearview mirror to see Bilbo’s horrified expression. He actually just rear ended him. They just sat there in disbelief for a long moment before the teacher waved them over into the other lane.
He grumbled about how stupid he was for getting so distracted before getting out to inspect the bumper. He ran his hand over the tiny scratch there thinking that would easily buff out.
“I’m sorry! I’m so sorry. I got lost in my thoughts for a second and then by the time I looked up and realized you had braked so suddenly…”
Thorin looked up and Bilbo trailed off, his mouth still open as he slapped a hand over his face.
“Oh, you’ve got to be fucking kidding me! You again!”
~~~~~
More to come on Dec 15!
Bard x Thranduil | Modern AU | 78K
His face is an expressionless mask, mouth an unassuming line and eyebrows unmoving; frozen, the only sign of emotion a very slight widening of his eyes and the sudden dilation of his pupils. His posture shows neither hostility nor welcome; to any casual observer, he would appear entirely neutral. Bard is not a casual observer. Something about this woman has Thranduil petrified, like a hunted animal staring down the barrel of a gun. "Well," says Celia, "Hello, Thranduil."
A collaboration with @plutolichen for @fellowshipofthefics THAUC 2024.
| Ao3 | Coming December 15th
do you only do writing prompts for october, or do you do them for any other month? thanks <3
Apologies for the delay!
But we typically have done some sort of writing event each month - whether it's prompt lists or games, you name it. Here are a few of the other events we've done in the past (some of which have more straightforward prompts, some are more "game" oriented!)
In no particular order...
Trope Roulette
Fotfictember
Fotfictober
Pride Bingo
Modern May Mashup
Summer Stories
AU-gust Mashup
#dungeonsynths#fotfics#fellowshipofthefics#writing prompts#hope this helps some!!#these are great lists and games to revisit
Happy Friday, Fellowship! 💛
Fic recs are the best way to help promote someone else’s works! Find some of your favorite fics, they could be WIPs, completed, old, new, whatever you want to share, and rec at least (1) of them for us and your followers to see! Who knows, it might just be the fic someone out there is looking for!
Bonus: tag the author (if possible) and share with us why you are recommending this fic!
Happy November, everyone! This month, we wanted to help out everyone who is doing events (including our own THAUC, of course). As the weather turns colder in the Northern Hemisphere, we're all going to be staying inside more, so why not take advantage of that by getting cozy and writing?
We want you to pick a word count goal to write every day. This could be any amount! It's just to get you into the habit of writing daily. For example, this mod (Robyn) will be aiming to write 1k every day, but you could pick 50, 100, 126, 2k; whatever you want!
Feel free to reblog this post (or subsequent reblogs) with what you've written so far today, and whether that met your goal!
Happy Monday, Fellowship! 🌸
Motivation for our works comes in many forms - personal goals, media sparking an idea, and most importantly, the readers/fans themselves! Comments, reblogs, tags, etc. are a great way to interact with your favorite writers! It's not about "complimenting" the work (which is nice and appreciated), but about making a connection to discuss things you both enjoyed!
Most of the time, writers just want to share their creative thoughts with readers, and build a conversation off of that. That's what fandom is all about!
So, for Motivation Monday, we encourage you to go out and leave a comment, a reply, nice tags/reblog, on at least (1) piece of created work for your fandom - or send the creator a nice ask to open a discussion about the work! Yes, this goes for artwork too! Artists also love to yell and scream about the things in fandom that make them happy too!
Go spread some motivation to your faves!
