@lancabbage I saw this on mdzs reddit post (shouldn't have gone there in the first place), but yeah trust me, quite a lot of people there think JC has a chance to be recognized by HanguangJun.

The amount of delusion of people confidently saying "LWJ and JC could have been closer if there's no WWX" is just...out of this world~

Imagine judging mdzs using Christianity be like...🙄🙄🙄 even Buddhism could not be used to judge mdzs as literature. Why? Simply because XianXia literature isn't about religion! Religion is revolving around a God, whereas XianXia's concept is about "becoming a God themselves". The immortality concept in XianXia isn't about living forever to wait for true love like a certain vampire, however, it's about advancing to another higher realm and becoming Gods or Immortals.

The Lan Clan descended from a monk, but does any of the Lan Clan behave like a devoted monk? Of course not. Because they no longer are a monk. They're Daoist. Even Song Lan who came from a Temple, did he behave like a legit monk? Naturally not, because the Temple in mdzs has also been integrated with Daoism. The Buddhism in MDZS or XianXia literature is not the orthodox Buddhism as religion. It is a WAY, a PATH, to attain the Dao, in Daoism culture.

So, even using the related religion, Buddhism, couldn't be used to judge mdzs without considering its Daoism concept, not to mention using Christianity, a concept extremely out of context with the literature to begin with????

How to judge mdzs? Isn't it obvious?? Of course you have to use the Foundation of mdzs itself, a XianXia literature, with Daoism Concept, you dimwit!

The thing in mdzs fandom is a lot of fans equated being "poor" as "justified". But the thing is, "evil" or "good" does not depend on being "rich" or "poor", nor does it depend on having a miserable background or a comfortable life. Classism is at large in mdzs, but being "pitiful" doesn't mean you're justified, just like appearing "pleasant" doesn't mean you're an Angel. Good or Evil is a choice, it's not inherent.

After finishing MDZS, reading metas that explain characters, terminology, and things in the book that I went over my head, I started looking at the fanfics I read with a side eye.

Why does it take Jiang Yanli, someone else’s sibling, who possesses the same character traits and qualities as MXY and Qin Su, to become a sibling to JGY, in order to save him? That no longer makes sense to me.

Wei Wuxian apologising to Jiang Cheng. This always angered me or had me conflicted. Sometimes I thought I was wrong for being upset that WWX was apologising. I would not like to read another fanfic with this scenario again.

Why is Jiang Cheng a renowned homophobe shipped with all the men? I get it, I get it, fan fiction. Still..

WWX sleeping around is not accurate.

WWX being an alcoholic is not either.

Why does reconciliation between Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng happen because WWX apologised? How about a fanfic where Jiang Cheng realised his faults and actively changes and he’s the one to apologise? If he can be gay, he can change his ways, and apologise. It’s fan fiction right? All things are possible.

Tumblr has been such a safe space for me when seeing mxtx stuff. Then one time, I saw a post saying how its starting to get bad because twitter ppl came. I also use twitter but not much, so I've never had nor seen the bad twitter experience. Today marks the end of that though. The literal jumpscare I had when I saw someone curse at MXTX for writing a character the way they are written. My jaw dropped at how the comments section even supported this. Like,,, huh?!

... I wish twt had a block system like tumblr do.

I’m sorry anon, that must have really sucked to run across. Unfortunately tumblr has always been a cesspool of bad mxtx takes the same way Twitter has, just blocking and curating is more effective here for the most part. But there are a lot of people who are just exhausting and frustrating here too. My block list is a mile long and I still run into stupid takes here and there.

Good luck with your continued time in MXTX fandom, block vigorously, it really does help a lot.
