“Well I feel like maybe if I learn to use tomes, I’ll be more useful to the army!”

After some convincing, Arvis finally caved in. With a groan he agreed, “Fine. We shall start tomorrow at noon in the library. But you better not go and get yourself killed. We need you.” He bid you a good night to let you rest from a long day of work. Somehow you managed to fall asleep, your nerves and excitement had made it a little difficult.

the next morning you were full of excitement, rushing to the library as heroes watched you in bewilderment. they were happy you were happy, however, and let you be! when you entered the library, arvis was already waiting for you. in his hands he held what you assumed to be basic tomes.

surprisingly, arvis was super patient and polite with you! if you had any questions, he made sure to go over them precisely in a way that was easy for you to grasp. things were going well until it was time to actually use the tome. once the book was opened and ready to cast a spell, you realized your hands were shaking.

“remember what i told you, don’t overthink the knowledge, it will only mess the spell up. luckily it’s a simple spell, so nothing terrible should happen.”

he spoke firmly, but in a way that was almost nurturing, and it gave you the push you needed to finally cast the spell. well.. the first time didn’t go too great. nothing happened. taking a glance at arvis and taking a deep breath in, you decided to cast the spell again. arvis let out a satsified hum. you did it! you really did it! after a moment of celebrating to yourself, arvis spoke, “well done, you cast your first spell. however, things will only get harder. don’t waste my time if you don’t think you’ll be able to handle it.”

while his words may seem cold and had a sharp edge to them, his voice held an almost.. teasing tone. all you could do was smile at how you seemed to get on his good side and promised that you’ll make the order of heroes proud.

It had been a long three years since the war with Grado, but Eirika found that she still hesitated when seeing one of their knights. 

It wasn’t purposeful, certainly not! But during the war, Eirika had run many Grado soldiers through with her blade. She still remembered how the blood ran red, the screams of horror, and the darkness cast by the prince she’d considered her best friend. 

The Restoration Queen of Renais had been enjoying a stroll through the gardens. It was a favorite pastime of hers, and she had been pleasantly successful at restoring the elegant blooms to the gardens that she so loved. The bluenette’s brother, King Ephraim of Renais, was expecting a messenger from the remnants of the Grado Empire. 

She was the first to see this messenger. He flew down on the back of a wyvern. Eirika remembered the knights Glen and Cormag, certainly this was a common sight in Grado. 

“Walk with me, sir knight.” She called as he landed. For the memory of Glen, who’s death she had partly caused, she would try to make amends. Perhaps this wyvern knight would be the start of a bettering and honest relationship between the countries of Grado and Renais. “Walk with me, that I might learn more about the knights of your kingdom. And in return, I’ll show you to King Ephraim.” She offered with a genuine, pure smile.

“Vaike? What in the world are you doing?”

These were the words that lept out of your mouth the very second you walked into your shared room. The blonde-haired man was standing on a tall stool, trying to hang up the second half of a banner that had the words, ‘Happy birthday!’ sprawled across them.

He turned around and his gaze landed on you, a casual grin coming to his face as he waved at you. “Oh, (Y/N)! Didn’t think you’d get home this early,” You furrowed your brows in response, opening your mouth to reiterate your question. However, Vaike spoke up before you could say anything. “yeah, I was just setting up for your birthday party.”

This confused you, for it absolutely was not your birthday. As you voiced this, Vaike blinked a few times before he lightly hit himself on the head, laughing.

“Sorry, didn’t finish. I meant I was setting up for your birthday party for me!” You couldn’t help but snort at his response, only to clear your throat.

“Oh? And what do I have planned for this birthday I’m apparently planning for you?” Vaike climbed down the ladder he was on, almost knocking it over as he reached the floor.

He turned around, putting his hands on his hips with a bright grin on his face. “Well, I’m so glad you asked! First, there’s this conversation happening right now, and then there’s some cuddling, and finally we f—”

You decided maybe it would be for the best that you interrupted him before he could finish that sentence. “Maybe not the third thing… Not today.” Vaike seemed to pout, and you walked forward, poking his nose smugly. “I would absolutely love to cuddle with ‘The Vaike’ for a while.” Before he could say anything, you pull the man into a hug. He grinned again, crushing you in a tight hug right back and resting his chin on your head. You could practically feel the smug aura radiating off of him.

“(Y/N),” He spoke up, and you glanced up at him, seeing his smug look. “I’ve got to tell ya something.”

“I know it’s not your birthday, Vaike.”

Kaden has been living in Askr for months. He interacted with only a few humans, one of which was you.

From the moment he was first summoned, there was something about you that made even this prideful kitsune fluster and trip over his words.

Everything that came out of your mouth had him hooked. He’d boast even more than usual around you, just to possibly get a sliver of your attention and admiration.

Although, it was never really hard for him to get your attention. Since he wanted it so bad, it was a given that he was going to try his hardest to get it. But he never got it in the way he wanted.

Sure, he loved talking to you more than anything. And sure, just standing next to you was enough to bring butterflies into his stomach, but he absolutely yearned for your touch.

He wanted to hold your hand. He wanted to hug you, to kiss you, to hold you close. Because whenever you touched him, it felt like his heart would skip a beat and his face would explode in a bright red color.

One day, he just couldn’t take it anymore.

You were talking with him, and whenever he would try to say anything to you, he wouldn’t be able to get his words out of his mouth. He would keep glancing away from your eyes, looking down at your hands, or on occasion even your lips.

You asked him if he was alright, and he went silent for a long while before he spoke up with much hesitation in his voice. “I want you to hold me.”

Needless to say, you were surprised by his forward statement, but… Being honest with yourself, it wasn’t something you didn’t expect to happen at some point. It was just the timing that surprised you, really.

You and Karen became much more affectionate with each other. You’d walk down halls, holding each other’s hands, or he would be sitting on your lap during your downtime.

But the part that you both loved the most? The ears. Kaden’s ears were yours to scratch and pet. He didn’t let anyone else even come close to touching them, claiming that, “They’re the beautiful (Y/N)’s!”

Sometimes, while cuddling, you two fall asleep together. Waking up the next morning could be a heaven or hell, depending on if you have any early morning duties or not.

Why were all these lost dragon children practically drawn to you?

Like seriously, you had just summoned Myrrh, and she wouldn’t leave your side.

It was like you had an enterage of small dragons following you around like lost puppies.

Eventually, it got so bad that you couldn’t even use the bathroom without leaving to find Kana at the door, holding a pretty rock that he wanted to show you.

You had to do something about it. Something that didn’t involve hurting the little dragons’ feelings, since they were small as well as dangerous. Hurting their feelings would make you feel bad emotionally and physically.

You finally got an idea. A schedule. Every day, you would separate time from your relatively busy schedule and play with the kids.

It started effectively the next week after you had explained everything to the little dragons. Most of them seemed disappointed, but they understood and were excited for what was coming.

Along with the schedule, you also had rotating ‘leaders’, who chose what to do.

The first day, it was Tiki, who wanted to play a big game of tag. She even invited a bunch of other heroes to play as well. Including but not limited to Marth, Caeda, Chrom, Lissa, and some others.

This rotating schedule went really well, and while the dragon kids were really exhausting, you were able to keep up.

Overall, you became kind of a mentor and mother figure for the kiddos, it was nice, especially when organized.

“I love you so much, (Y/N).” Your cheeks darkened as Leo’s voice reached your ears. He held you close, arms wrapped around your waist whilst you had your arms wrapped around his neck. Your forehead rested against his, and he had a small smile on his face.

“Leo, I…” You didn’t know what to say. All words escaped you as you looked into his beautiful red eyes.

His hands ran up and down your back as he leaned in closer to you, shushing you. “You don’t have to say anything.” He paused, looking into your (E/C) eyes. “I… Think you might be my soulmate.”

He leaned in more and your eyes fluttered shut as you awaited his lips to meet yours…

“(Y/N)!” Odin’s voice jolted you from your sleep, and you sat up with widened eyes. Your fellow retainers each sat in front of you, Odin closer than Niles was.

Niles tilted his head to the side with a slight smirk on his lips. “What were you dreaming about? Sounded like it was a lot of fun.”

“Be quiet.” You replied hastily, standing up and dusting the dirt from the ground off of your pants.

Odin hopped up to his feet as well, smirking like a goof. “I’m sure it was something like…” he paused before waving his hand in front of him as he spoke again. “Lord Leo was protecting you from an enemy army! And when everyone around him had fallen, he turned around and confessed his love to you!”

“That was the opposite of what I had in mind. I thought they were having a dirty d—” you interrupted Niles quickly with a clear of your throat.

“Just because I have a crush on him doesn’t mean I was having a romantic dream.” You pointed out with a huff escaping your lips.

Odin nodded in understanding while Niles stood off to the side with his arms folded over his chest. “Ah, yes. Of course!”

“… Right.” Niles turned his head to the trees as his lips curled up into a small smile. “Milord, what do you think?”

Your eyes widened as you looked over to the trees, seeing Leo standing there, staring at the three of you with pursed lips. “M-Milord—?!”

“I didn’t hear anything. What were you asking me?” Leo coughed into his hand, which was curled into a fist. “Actually, never mind. I don’t care. Let’s get moving.” He turned around and began to walk off, leaving a snickering Niles, an awestruck Odin, and a flustered you.

He had heard. You were sure of it. And now he knew about your feelings… How fun.

Angst #14 with Zelgius huehuehue ♥️

Anon, I want you to know that I love Zelgius so much… Gentle giant knight boy. This hurt me to write. I love angst. 

“Can you shut up for once in your life?” 

You never should have said it. You shouldn’t have, but you did. It came tumbling out before you could stop it, and instantly, you wanted to reach out and take the words back. 

In retrospect, it had been a long day. You’d had to settle a dispute between Gaius and Tiki over who got the last slice of cake — preferably before Tiki turned into a raging dragon over it. Then, as soon as that was over, you nearly had to drag Valter away from Sharena by his seaweed hair. Of course, after that, you’d had to somehow calm down Berkut, who was chasing down Alm with a pitchfork. A pitchfork! Berkut didn’t even like the common farmers!

That night, all you wanted was some peace and quiet as you snuggled with your boyfriend. He was already asleep when you entered your room, though. Zelgius faced the wall, and you couldn’t help an exhausted smile as you climbed into bed, wrapping your arms around him and resting your head against his back. 

Oh.

Zelgius flinched, almost immediately awake. You sat up, murmuring apologies. He didn’t like his brand to be touched, but especially so when he was vulnerable or sleeping. 

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry.” You sighed and propped a tired arm on your knee to rest your chin on. “I really… didn’t mean to startle you.” 

Zelgius was quiet — well, he often was. “That’s alright.” He murmured in return. He got up, though. “I think I’ll get some tea before I go back to sleep.” 

And so he did. The two of you sat in silence for a while, the only noise being the occasional sips from your glass. Finally, you’d had enough of the quiet treatment. 

“I think it’s beautiful.” You said stubbornly. “I know what it means, back where you came from, but… It doesn’t mean that here.” 

“I know that.” Zelgius replied. You’d told him many times before. He sighed, and for once, it looked like he had more to say. “…Here, it’s a reminder. I did bad things before I got here, summoner, you know that—“ 

“Can you shut up for once in your life?” You snapped suddenly, not wanting to hear him being negative about himself any longer. 

The silence that hung in the air this time was much more tense. 

Zelgius, without a sound, rose from his chair. He nodded stiffly. You were at a loss. “I’m sorry, I—”

He held up a hand to silence you, still not making a single sound. And just like that, he turned on his heel and exited the room. 

He did not come back that night.
