Music Box

You know those little music boxes with crystal snow globes on top? I like to think my system's like one. Fragile enough that even a slight tap will break the glass. Cute, delicate tiny music box, forever turning. Everyone's a different part needed to keep going, each of us a different tune.

Even after the glass shatters, we keep singing. It's the only thing we can do. Small shards of crystal around us, threatening to cut deep in our skin if we take the wrong step. We never seem to be able to take the right ones. Nothing but a toy made to be outgrown and thrown away.

Soft little songs, so easily forgotten. Never taken seriously, never meant to be a part of any band or orchestra. We'll never be as important or beloved or memorable as other instruments. Our melody's just too scratchy, annoying, forgettable. Even if we scream as loud as we can, we'd just be ignored.

I'm tired of singing. I'm so tired of singing when I know it wont do any good. There's just no point in it anymore. Was there ever one to begin with? All our melodies just blur together anyways. Our song is so boring, would anyone even notice if it stopped. Or would people be happier now that there's no more annoying noises desperately playing in the background. It probably hurt their ears to listen to us.

I hope we were able to leave our loved ones with at least one happy memory to look back on after our song finally comes to an end.
