Your outlaw au is amazing! Since there is no magic though I imagine that perhaps the emperor approaches the group by perhaps paying random nobodies to deliver his messages (to not led a trail back to himself), acting like somewhat of a sponsor/magical godfather, be it by bribing heavy security away at the right time, setting up distractions or outright getting them invitations to events they need to enter and stealth/guns blazing it’s too risky

It works in 2 ways, one, they know The Emperor (whoever he is) wants them to succeed, and if the letters are to be believed, might want as much because he is also infected (The Act 1/2 guardian dialogue gives such an impression with the “I’m just like you”), and two, whoever it is, he’s powerful, he’s vague and definitely has some hidden agenda, dividing the group on wether to accept some of his “gifts”

Some ideas for Moonrise also! Since magical darkness is hard to translate maybe it’s the city just before a very dangerous mountain pass, it’s cold as hell, daylight lasts very little, and wild game is very scarce, meaning that to pass through you NEED to go through Moonrise and have the proper supplies, but the place is filled to the brim with sharrans (thanks Ketheric) so you either bargain with the sharrans (worst deals ever, thanks Gerringothe) or you fight (the resistance probably has stolen some resources but they need help, they aren’t in a position to be charitable)

ANON I LOVE YOUR BRAIN.

The idea of the Emperor sending out messages anonymously and giving the group help when it’s convenient is such a great idea. I had a similar one but regarding Raphael instead, but that could also work when he gives the group a “counter offer”, claiming he has a cure for the Flayer infection. Except, Raphael would actually come in person when he offers this. (He’d also absolutely try to sway them all with the valid point they’ve never met this mysterious figure and how do they know if they’re just being used and being told empty promises. Course he’s shot down, Karlach doesn’t trust him…and Astarion actually knows Raphael. He’d get shooed away.)

I need to get the group to moonrise cuz I have SO MANY IDEAS AND THERES SO MUCH POTENTIAL. Thank you for reminding me of the sharrans, thats something I wanna dip into as well.

I love hearing people’s ideas and concepts for the AU, it’s great seeing everyone have fun with it and it honestly makes my day reading these <3

Now I'm crying thinking about Astarion learning how to live again thanks to Gale after years of slavery under Cazador's thumb and Gale learning how to enjoy life again thanks to Astarion after years by Mystra's side but knowing that it won't last because nothing does, because he's bound to die sooner or later and he doesn't want to hurt Astarion like that but he can't avoid it no matter what

Sure, the rate at which his condition spreads might slow down once he gets rid of the Ore but it won't stop and neither Astarion nor Gale can do anything about it

Would Astarion stay by his side until the end, or would he leave before Gale's inevitable death because it would hurt too much to stay? Would Gale wish for his company, or would he want Astarion to leave him and live his life now that he's finally free?

How many years left does Gale even have, I wonder. And how many of those years will be spent in pain. My poor boys, they both deserve so much more

I forget the level of angst I’ve caused myself by giving Gale an incurable disease…

These are the questions to be asked, what the future may look like after the Flayers are dealt with. But let’s hear it from the boys themselves shall we?
