ok, story time:

about 3 years ago i started recreating this beanie from a pattern which was no longer available anywhere online but a single screenshot on Pinterest.

the pattern was rather simple but, with no clue about the original gauge/dimensions and how to calculate the correct size, i had to do some experiments.

turns out my first attempt was almost correct, but i washed it wrong and it shrunk. then i spent the last 2 years meticulously calculating exactly how much the fabric would shrink and how much i had to upscale my gauge to accommodate for the shrinking.

by the time i developed an accurate formula, i had also learned how to wash hand crafted wool products properly, and so all my beanies still ended up the wrong size because they no longer shrunk. but now i finally did it. i have found enlightenment.
