Just saw a post asking how tall people are and now I want to make it a poll. Apologies to people in the fringe height categories, you do not get specifics.
I had to consult a chart for this

Good news for sailors and also me specifically. Support your fellow earthworkers. Heal the planet. Say fuck with me.

I like all these and I have another one: vary the lengths of your paragraphs. It really does help to visually break up a lot of text both for readers and as a writer. It can be really effective to, for example, have a long paragraph and then a single line and then a medium paragraph. It allows that single line to hit and then eases you back in to the prose.
Also don't be afraid to just have dialogue for 4 or 5 lines, especially if it's short and there's no movement or inflection you need to add. Use this sparingly, though, and remember that the reader isn't in your head, sometimes they need clues about how something is being said.
5 Tiny Writing Tips That Aren’t Talked About Enough (but work for me)
These are some lowkey underrated tips I’ve seen floating around writing communities — the kind that don’t get flashy attention but seriously changed how I write.
1. Put “he/she/they” at the start of the sentence less often.
Try switching up your sentence rhythm. Instead of
“She walked to the window,”
try
“The window creaked open under her touch.”
Keeps it fresh and stops the paragraph from sounding like a checklist.
2. Don’t describe everything — describe what matters.
Instead of listing every detail in a room, pick 2–3 objects that say something.
“A half-drunk mug of tea and a knife on the table”
sets a way stronger tone than
“There was a wooden table, two chairs, and a shelf.”
3. Use beats instead of dialogue tags sometimes.
Instead of:
"I'm fine," she said.
Try:
"I'm fine." She wiped her hands on her skirt.
It helps shows emotion, and movement.
4. Write your first draft like no one will ever read it.
No pressure. No perfection. Just vibes. The point of draft one is to exist. Let it be messy and weird — future you will thank you for at least something to edit.
5. When stuck, ask: “What’s the most fun thing that could happen next?”
Not logical. Not realistic. FUN. It doesn’t have to stay — but chasing excitement can blast through writer’s block and give you ideas you actually want to write.
What’s a tip that unexpectedly helped with your writing? Let me know!! 🍒

okay now I'm curious and I dunno if this is really such an archaic foreign thing to young people today or if I'm just out of touch
Please reblog, I'd love to see a lot of responses!

Reblogging again to add this beautiful list of planets and their sectors and grid numbers, found under "Explore More" on the map page.
Going back to my Dedra/Lonni question, Spellhaus and Akiva are in the same sector (Meerian) but Steergard is another (Thesme). We know Thesme is Dedra's; since Lonni was pulled into the whole Thing with Spellhaus, I'm going to assume Meerian is his.

I have been messing with this thing all day, I'm obsessed
Look at how close Fondor and Ghorman are! Both in the colonies just outside the Core. Wouldn't surprise me in Luthen had spent some time in Ghorman growing up, which has me thinking thoughts.
Koboh, Dalna, and Eiram (and the not-pictured Tanalorr and E'ronoh) are all super close, which is fun from a High Republic standpoint. Of course the Nihil would be sniffing around Koboh in the earliest days of its existence, Dalna's right there. Then between Phases 2 and 1, it gets whacked by an Emergence. Dalna and Eiram have enough of their own problems by then that they probably don't even care.
I was trying to find Dedra's sector and found this section. We know Steergard was hers. I don't know (someone please correct me if you know) if Spellhaus was hers, it might have been Lonni's. If it is, then Akiva was probably hers too. The question there is... did the organized crime take over Akiva during or after her tenure? I know Outlaws is set in ABY 3 but they seem pretty embedded by then.
Her sector being right in between Yavin and Aldhani is great too.
Also At Attin being absolutely surrounded by shit and no one having a clue it was there is deeply hilarious to me. Look at it, right there in the mess. Wild. Just hanging out. Right by [checks notes] Dathomir. Wow, I don't know if you could have two more different planets.
Didn't realize how close Scarif and Narkina are, which makes me wonder if the penal colony on Belsavis was working on something else because it is Elsewhere. Like, Wobani, the penal colony Jyn ended up at, was a farming labor camp and it's in the Mid-Rim to the... north? The top of the map, whatever that is. It's definitely possible that they were doing different things and it was Narkina's proximity to Scarif that made it perfect for Death Star reasons.
Speaking of Wobani: it's up by the frozen rock that is Kijimi.

Pssssst, hey. Heeeyyyy. You there. No no no, not them, you. Yeah, you, the one reading this.
Do you want to learn how to art? Do you want to learn from one of the guys who directed your favorite Disney movie, Brother Bear? Do you want to spend less money than the cost of a McDonald's Happy Meal to learn it?
Yeah you do, don't lie to yourself. I mean, or do, I ain't your mom. But either way, scoot ya boot on over to creatureartteacher.com! It's owned and run by Aaron Blaise, but he's got a ton of other industry professionals who have their own courses up for sale, too. There's a whole intro to 3D animation course! For Blender! By Jeff Schu who worked on Surf's Up and the Chronicles of Narnia, do you know how stoked I am?! I'm kicking myself how the hell did I miss that newsletter what the fu—
*ahem* Sorry. I know what I'm doing with my Blender time when I'm done with my current project lol
Anyway! Aaron's got a 50% off code running rn. Yeah, half off! Here, I've even clicked the button for you to save you a step. The only "lesson" it doesn't apply to is the membership, but that's on sale, too. (It also doesn't apply to anything that isn't a lesson, course, or course bundle, like the reference books or art prints.) And yeah, I know, I get it, $150/year until you cancel it is still steep for a lot of us. I totally understand, my bank account balance is only two digits rn (four if you include the numbers after the decimal). I'm scared to check the exact number tbh.
Aaron gets it, too. That's why he started Creature Art Teacher, and why he's got that half off code running. Half off any order over $20.01 (re-emphasis that it only works on lessons/tutorials/course bundles), I checked. That's $10 after the discount. Yep, checked that, too. And yes, it applies to the lessons that are already on sale. You bet your britches I checked that for you. I am nothing if not obnoxiously thorough. Or just obnoxious, jury's still out.
Now, that code expires on June 24, 2025, but if you miss it don't worry. There's pretty much always some kind of sale running. There's plenty of lessons for sale at only $5 on regular rotation. Yeah, five dollars. That's not a typo. Maybe the lesson you really want isn't on sale right now. That's okay. It will be at some point. He wants you to learn how to art as much as I want you to learn how to art, which is at least as much as you want you to learn how to art. Maybe more, idk how strongly you feel about learning how to art, but I assume it's at least hella. Hella's a unit of measurement, it exceeds a metric fuckton by, like, a lot. Trust me, I glanced in the general direction of a math book once.
And hey, if you sign up for the newsletter you get a free pdf on how to draw elephants :) Also, like, notified of future sales and discount codes, that's cool, too, but come on. You want to draw an elephant. You know you do.
