should go to sleep but now i'm thinking about kurapika and leorio and how Keith asked Jack when they think we'll see them again and they started theorizing that they Could show up for the Chimera Ant Mess but ended up at "I think it'll be a long while before we see them again, if we do at all"
kurapika i am Always thinking of you.

And like fuck, I feel bad for talking about Gon that way because that boy needs a 3-star therapy Hunter for real, he's Messed Up, he just said "Okay. I've calmed down" in the most Dead Inside voice I've ever heard, so again, I get it I get it, I do, and none of it is fair, there's Nothing good about Any of this, and how would you even do the Right Thing here, but God. That's the Wrong Thing! That's your friend!!!!!!!!! That's your friend and I'd be a little more forgiving if Gon had shown that he understands what a healthy friendship looks like and how to treat a friend. Something something you're the sun but beware of the heat and being blinded etc etc
Gon is so, so, SO fucking cruel to Killua during their confrontation with Pitou while Pitou is healing Komugi, and what fucks me up most is that I get it; it's the kind of self-righteous cruelty that is so incredibly easy to slip into while you're hurt and traumatized and like 13 years old and just all over the place. But God. Poor Killua. Like I think it started earlier, in fact Gon just isn't a very good friend in general, and the death knell comes a bit later, but here, in the room in which the King played Gungi, is where Gon ruins his relationship with Killua.

Like, "Must be nice for you. You can be calm. Because this isn't your fight." How fucking dare you. Killua has had your back this entire time. You fucking KNOW he'd risk his life for you or any friend of yours in a heartbeat if you just looked at him the right way. In fact that's what he has been doing.
Also, Killua's reaction to that. Just... fucking heartbreaking.

hearing jack trying to predict where the whole thing with/between the king and komugi is going is making me aware of how little interaction we actually get between them. we truly don't get to see them talk about anything other than things directly related to gungi (except for the Names Thing, which, funnily enough, is a question the king asks first; it was natural for her to return it and it's telling the king didn't anticipate it) and so, instead of it being something particularly smart or thought-provoking komugi says (except for the Names Thing, again, although the king violently brushes this off not once but twice on-screen and presumably many more times off it) that ends up Changing Something, it's more that... the king just really likes komugi.
and like... that's all.
that's all there is to it.
she's a good gungi player and she has many traits that mirror gon's in one way or another (the innocence, the sincerity, the enthusiasm,) and in the end it's simply that the way she Is Herself while playing him over and over catches him off guard by charming him. he doesn't suddenly reconsider his plans to take over the world, he doesn't suddenly feel any kind of kinship with Humankind As Such, it's just komugi.
and it's not even that the fight between the king and netero is being influenced by her in any meaningful way (it's just the Splitting Guards + King Up part of the hunters' plan that gets derailed by her being hurt); everybody is as strong and powerful as they are and that's how it works out. it's just... the last moments in which she plays an important role again, i'll have to come back to that.
but just... something about how jack doesn't manage to guess at what's going to happen wrt komugi because it's nothing Big, it's just two people who play board games and end up liking each other because they See Each Other (ironically) in ways they've not felt seen before. how human of both of them.
