ohhhhh I get it now. the "gifted kid" discourse exists because people see it fundamentally as a sign of Privilege and not as a largely meaningless category that puffs up weird children before setting them up for the same unremarkable lives as everyone else; thus they interpret people going "the educational system gave me false expectations before ultimately abandoning me to the same heartless world as everyone else" as "why am I, The Main Character, not getting everything I ever wanted."
#all of this 1000%#as a learning support educator we count 'gifted' children as having additional needs#because even if you take away all the expectations and the quite possible neurodivergence#they have learning needs that differ to the students who are at or around standard#as a former 'gifted' kid myself i got neglected and was then punished whenever i tried to work at my own pace or do extra#it is not a privilege because most teachers really don't know what the fuck to do with you#twice exceptional people especially!!

Ya know when people told me "when you're finally safe enough that you can leave survival mode and start to let go of and process your c-ptsd/trauma things are probably going to get really, really bad before they slowly start to get better" I thought that was reasonable. I did not understand that by "things are going to get bad" they meant "you're going to find yourself in the worst mental state of your entire life, but dw, that means it's working" and tbh I simply wish someone had been more clear.
#for me it's been 'worse' in the sense of my body breaking down and finally feeling just how sick it is#because i feel safe now and no longer feel like i have to hold it all in or completely sacrifice myself for someone else's comfort#also this relationship i am in is both the happiest and most terrifying one i've experienced because i am not used to#being loved or cared for this hard. so my cptsd is like 'it's a trap!' and i have to consistently push through that and my urges to sabotage#by communicating mindfully and reminding myself this is how i've always deserved to be treated. it should be the baseline#it can feel like a fairytale at times without being a lie#oh my god i could talk about this all day#mental health#cptsd#trauma

I think it'd be neat if during discussions about schizophrenia and psychosis more people made a point to mention how psychotic episodes themselves can be deeply traumatizing. because they sure can. experiencing a break from reality like that is traumatizing. delusions, even though they aren't real, are traumatizing. believing you're being prosecuted by God himself and not knowing how to cope with that just to later realize none of it was real is probably traumatizing. experiencing frightening hallucinations can be traumatizing. people talk about how psychotics suffer from their disorder but let's talk about why we do. and I haven't even mentioned the inherent trauma of living with a stigmatized disorder in a world where psychotics are despised and shunned and kicked out of homes. lets not forget that one.
