How to be Good to Parents

“Showing birr to them is by obeying whatever they ask of you and tell you to do, as long as it is not something forbidden. Their instructions should be given preference over optional prayers.

Stay away from what they prohibit you. Spend on them. Seek out for the things they like. Serve them excessively. Observe respect and dignity with them. Don’t raise your voice or stare at them. Don’t call them by their names. Walk behind them. Be patient over anything they do that you dislike.”

Taylah narrated that he said to Ibn ‘Umar رضي الله عنه, ‘My mother is with me.’

Ibn ‘Umar said, ‘By Allah, if you speak nicely to her and feed her you will definitely enter Paradise as long as you abstain from the major sins.’ (Sahih, Adab al-Mufrad #6)

Abu Umamah -may Allah be pleased with him- reported that the Prophet ﷺ said:

“Indeed the angel on the left raises up the pen for six hours from the Muslim servant who has done something wrong.

If he has regret and he seeks the forgiveness of Allah from the sin, then the angel will throw it away. However if he does not repent, then it is written as one sin.”

The True Love For The Messenger ﷺ

Sh. Salih al-Fawzan حفظه الله إيمانه said:

The proof upon loving the Messenger ﷺ is not just mere claims people make, or celebrations that are done rather the proof upon it is in 4 affairs:

• Obedience to him in what he commanded.

• Refraining from what he prohibited.

• Believing in all of that which he informed.

• Worshipping Allah only in the manner he legislated.

Hasan al-Basri رحمه الله said:

"The leader of the body is the tongue.

When the tongue commits a crime, the limbs commit it.

When the tongue abstains, the limbs abstain (from sin)."

"Whenever your heart is neglectful and you find yourself immersed in the life of this world, go out to the graves and think about those people who yesterday were (alive) like you on earth."
