Trailer Talk: Star Command

Okay, so this the teaser trailer for Star Command. No, not Buzz Lightyear's Star Command. This a spaceship management game for your phone. 

This is a well done teaser. It has a simple concept that it executes perfectly. Beginning with visually captivating images of outer space, it slowly pans out far enough to reveal the contrasting 8-bit imagery of the characters and space ships.The real payoff is at the end, when the camera continues to pan and reveals the most likely situation in which the game will be played: on the toilet.

Trailer Talk: Rock Band Blitz

When Rock Band came out, my friends and I became obsessed. We played it almost every night one summer until my friend broke the plastic drum set and we were too cheap to buy a new one. It set the standard for instrument based party video games.

With Rock Band Blitz, I’m not exactly sure what is going on. It doesn’t use any instrument controller, and basically is a single player game. Despite the fact that it goes against the original premise of the Rock Band series, it still looks like it could be a fun game. Stylistically, it is reminiscent of Tron, and it feels like you’re on a track racing through the city. A key feature is being able to switch between song tracks in the middle of gameplay. Ultimately the music will make the game, and featuring Pumped Up Kicks by Foster the People is a good start. And if the game is no fun, you can always import the songs into Rock Band 3.

Trailer Talk: Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13

In honor of Tiger Woods winning his first PGA event in forever this past weekend, Trailer Talk will cover a recent commercial for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13. You might be wondering, what would be the least logical way to promote a golf game? With Kung-Fu of course! For some reason I’ll never understand, this commercial fuses together Kung-Fu moves with golf swings to highlight the XBox Kinnect capability of the game. Oh and to make it even more confusing, Shaq is in there too. Enjoy.
