Fwiw, I do NOT recommend trying to learn paper play from playing edh.
There are too many things going on, points of interaction are INCREDIBLY LIKELY to pass without comment unless someone surfs your shoulder for HOURS, and you don't build fundamentals from playing it. Hueristics like 'use all your mana every turn', 'draw cards before you play your land', 'cast nonhasted creatures in 2nd main phase', 'hold back land drops late in the game to bluff answers', 'tap your mana to conceal information about what you couls have in hand', and on and on...
Can't believe I didn't mention it here!!

I got my hands on my first ever Magic The Gathering cards!! Went for the Final Fantasy starter decks, as I'm still learning to play (girlfriend is teaching me :3)

But it IS Ryan Gosling's hottest role.
Like, I suffered through a lot of The Notebook. I kinda shrugged at Drive. But getting 'jacked to the tits' That made sense! Big Short has a LOT of people plotting, while Margin Call is much more about being a cog in a machine.
watched the big short and margin call back to back and that is just very unfavourable to the former. it makes the big short come across as very childish and full of itself, which it is. its voice is listen up tumblypoops i’m gonna learn you a thing about finance. like such posts it pretends to give you some insight but is shallow as a puddle. there’s no character development, there’s basically no tension, other than christian bale the acting is average at best and bale doesn’t clear that bar by much (but with the material they’re given can you blame them). it has all the subtlety of a jackhammer and it’s preachy.

@brazenautomaton you've made hentai worldbuilding stuff! Is this more objectification or a texture based paraphilia?

“all girls are catty to each other” myth actualy just statistical error. average girl is nice to other girls. Regina Georg, who goes to high school & insults over 10,000 girls each day, is an outlier and should not have been counted

Listening to the newest We Got Worm ep on the Purity interlude. It really was something for Wildbow to have our first real introduction to E88 be a mother cooing over her baby, going out to deal with criminals and keep the streets safe for her, and then suddenly reveal that all her protectiveness was motivated by the 14 words.
I appreciate wb giving us such a derisive treatment of parental virtue and the goodness of the family from the word go. He’s been on that “maybe the family structure is an irredeemable source of harm” grind since day one.

Wotc has been tracing the limits of what the audience can process as fantasy for a while now. Lorwyn block was obscurely celtic, eldraine's arthuriana has faded a lot from popular consciousness [which maro himself has admitted surprise about!], Conspiracy's italian city-state intrigues weren't snapped up, kamigawa was kept on the shelf for a decade in part from being 2weeb4u [so thanks to anime for helping bail the Audience out there], and BRO got weirdly grandfathered in as the mech-heavy origin story for the game's own... Rick Sanchez?
Whatever you think of as being mtg's core aesthetic, you have to grant that a lot of the central artistic space has been mined out in Dominaria/Innistrad/Zendikar/Ravnica after this long. Hence further afield stuff like art nouveau Avishkar, art deco Capenna, mesoamerican Ixalan, post-gothic horror Duskmourn.
I’m reaching a point now where nothing I loved is sacred and all is being melted down for profit. Things like Rings of Power and one D&D are annoying but easily ignored. But I don’t think I will ever stop being upset by what’s happening to Magic.
Unlike everything else, Magic crossovers are unavoidable if you want to play the game at all. People are brewing the new final fantasy cards in all formats and now I’ll just have to deal with it for the rest of time.
This can’t be fixed even. I can’t ever come back to the game and have those not be there. They’re in the fucking standard rotation, entire sets are being made that aren’t Magic. And they’re probably not going to stop until every solitary IP exists to be bought by the same people that buy funko pops.
This in addition to the actual sets we’ve been getting being the dumbest ideas possible but they can’t stop to make a world, the next set comes out 2 MONTHS AFTER THE CURRENT ONE! Can’t wait for trite Star Trek and Star Wars references in a Sci-fi set with parasitic set mechanics that fit no other world and will never be expanded upon.
AND NOTHING IS LIKE MAGIC! I can’t just go to fucking yu-gi-oh or Pokémon because those games don’t play like magic. Magic the Gathering is one of my favorite games of all time and it’s just, forever poisoned. Not dead, but poisoned and kept alive despite death being a preferable alternative.

I don't like the heat either, current job is in a warehouse that isn't air conditioned, but I haven't had anything approaching that antipathy, this year or any I can clearly recall my affect.
[Maybe being in marching band permanently changed my personality?]
The thing about Edge of Eternities is that the Monoists are objectively correct and I too want to collapse the sun into a supervoid just do I don't have to deal with summer anymore

I don't think that the well of UB properties as standard sets is bottomless!
The Assassin's creed example is instructive: it is clear that Ubisoft had a rolodex of characters to port to the head of commander decks, but definitely not enough of their own flavor/identity to fill a 286 card sausage, even if they wanted to.
Gnondamn LORD OF THE RINGS, the fantasy ur-text, bumped on empty while trying to flush out some parts of the time-tested Set Skeleton that you can glean after a year of listening to Limited Resources set reviews. Now, it's clear to any Feanör appreciator that there is more source material with which to constitute a LTR sequel, but it's not like you can make a 3rd pass with just the Hobbit [as the films amply prove].
And this is all leaving aside that tastemaking in the wider culture has run into a real wall! HBO is taking another pass at harry potter with a tv series; "read another book" is a dragonshout for literate-on-normie violence. I imagine you could make a Conan the Barbarian set, but would that be profitable [especially given his public domain day marching ever closer]? When you look at bestselling fantasy, your most recent entry with over 50 million copies sold is Twilight.
Separately, I think HP is Off the Table as UB source material, both for the Arcavios trope collisions AND the internal revolt that such a deal would spark.
I’m reaching a point now where nothing I loved is sacred and all is being melted down for profit. Things like Rings of Power and one D&D are annoying but easily ignored. But I don’t think I will ever stop being upset by what’s happening to Magic.

I can’t believe I missed the Oklo IPO. I would have bought 100 shares for $1000 and now they would have been worth almost $6000.

After the four-parter specials they made following the first cancellation, I didn't feel compelled to binge or keep up with subsequent productions. Maybe it's because sitcom status quo deification lost it's charm? Is Dan Harmon to comedy what wildbow is to capeshit?
futurama revival seasons got me wondering if it was always this mid

The shadow on the right shoulder actually got me thinking about unacknowledged machinespew.
there's Idiot Hair, and then whatever the hell that is playing off the shoulder.
For that implicit light source, no part of your nose should be illuminated.
The chair? off to the side in the background is also weird; it hasn't got a connection to the ground.
The signs were there even back when there'd be tracing allegations for every other work they did. But if you see Shexyo art on your dash please refrain from reposting it. They've been abusing AI for awhile now and refuse to acknowledge that it's part of their workflow and block artists on twitter that speak out so they don't lose potential patreon supporters.
