Non work stuff that especially tickles my geek bone. Games, scifi, art, goofiness.

You keep using those words, but I don't think you know what they mean.

The phrase “Klaatu barada nikto” originates from the 1951 Cold-War-era science fiction film The Day The Earth Stood Still. The phrase “Gort! Klaatu barada nikto!” was used to stop Gort, the robot in the film, from destroying the world. Ever since the term was originally used, the phrase continues to show up in popular culture.

Sinners (theatre) - 6/6 thumbs (JKX)
Great movie. It is horror, but we would have enjoyed it if it was just two brothers opening a juke joint. Solid cast with some standout performances. So well filmed. Has the single best filmed scene John has seen in ages. You really care about the people. The movie is about something besides the action. And the music is over the top great, as befits its central role in the story. Stay until the very, very end. A treat to see Buddy Guy, too. The monsters are scary, and the visual effects subtle and spooky. There is some gore, but nothing extra. If at all you are interested, make sure to see it in the theatre. We might go back next week.

Annie: There are legends of people born with the gift of making music so true, it can pierce the veil between life and death; conjuring spirits from the past...and the future. In ancient Ireland, they were called Filí. In Choctaw land, they called them Fire Keepers. And in West Africa, they were called Griots. This gift can bring healing to their communities. But it also...attracts evil....

Rainbow Jokers
Vince Underwood responding to a Jadzia Axelrod prompt, suggesting a spectrum of different comedy Jokers.
Purple: Pranks Indigo: Sketches Blue: Stand up Green: Improv Yellow: Bon mots Orange: Knock knock jokes Red: Murder
The actual 241 was, of course:

Unsurprisingly, purple Joker is my immediate favorite.
Even Rainbow Joker eschews puns.
