Fun Story to Share.
I got my (now 18-year-old) daughter into Ao3 back in 2021. I taught her she should always comment - even if the fic looks old or abandoned or whatever. She did.
Well - she got this email this morning:
Tumblr media
The fic was written in 2014 and essentially abandoned.
Bethy read and reviewed in 2021 (and was actually the only person who had commented at all).
Today in 2025 - the final chapter was posted by the author and this was her reply to Bethy’s comment.
———
Never question whether a fic is too old to comment on.

Sirius breaking into James' apartment with the whole gang on the morning of his birthday to surprise him.
Sirius making sure everyone is hidden and quiet when footsteps start to approach from the hallway.
Everyone jumping up and shouting surprise at Regulus of all people, clad in nothing but sweatpants that are a little too long to be his own, with aged and new hickeys all over his neck, chest and stomach that undoubtedly also lead under the tightened waistband.
Regulus screaming in fright and retreating back down the corridor to use James as a wall against the onslaught of questions.
Sirius going mad.

I want you to remember:
The fascists hate you too and they just will pretend otherwise until after they've killed the rest of us, before they turn on you.

I want to talk about Palestine and what we can all do to support them in this time. The majority of us may not be table to take to the streets in protest or donate or even show our support through symbols in certain areas but that doesn't mean you cannot support them. There are ways of support and protest, there is no reason you can be exempt from helping where you can. Boycott brands, share and interact with content by Palestinians, do not be silent. DO NOT BE SILENT. Your protest/support may not be as large as some, but the least you can do is speak the name of Palestine. Speak the name of Palestine and think of her people every day, speak her name again and again until she has peace again.

Some of the laws ban or limit drag in all capacities. Some of the other laws limit any kind of crossdressing where you might be in the presence of a minor.
I don't get why we need to ban drag in front of kids at all, when banning sexually explicit performances (including ones that aren't drag) in front of kids would do the same thing without blaming queer people or catching a lot of family friendly performances in the same net.
As for your last part, there are definitely people who think those shows are fine in front of kids, but there are a lot more who only see the family friendly stuff. I've only seen one post with the inappropriate stuff, whereas I see a lot more of the family friendly stuff (partially, I believe, because there are more family friendly ones). So while some people are saying all drag is family friendly while watching those videos, most people haven't seen them.

But laws against drag in front of children don't really change that. I fully support banning sexually explicit shows in the presence of children, but that's not what these laws are doing. They're banning drag, including shows like Mama G, which are nothing but kid friendly.
There's also another huge element which comes down to what people see. The people I see saying there's nothing wrong with the drag shows happening in front of kids are seeing the shows like Mama G pop up on their feed. Which is completely kid friendly. People are arguing based off entirely different perspectives of circumstances, as well as entirely different data, so to speak.
That's the main issue.

Christmas time with family has really made me realise a few things. All autistic things, for reference, my entire family achieves highly academically and are fairly successful in their careers, but my siblings and mum (divorced from my dad and it's dad's family) are the only ones consciously aware of my family's neurodivergencies.
Firstly, my cousin is definitely autistic. My aunt was talking about how they have to barter sitting in the same room with family otherwise she'd spend all her time in her room. She follows Rules to a t. Definitely autistic.
My grandfather, much like many other people in the family, is both really good and really terrible at socialisation. He's consciously aware of all the decisions he's making in social settings. We're going to spend a few days in a holiday house about an hour's drive from my house, and he's decided to drive back and forth each night to sleep in a bed he's comfortable in. Also definitely autistic.
There are plenty of other examples but these ones stood out to me. It's so interesting how people adapt to things and become successful because of things typically considered disabilities. I wouldn't say it's set back my grandfather at all in his life, he worked as a vicar and it's what made him so amazing at pastoral care.
It's honestly quite amusing just seeing everyone brush it off as a quirk or whatever, it's not a big hindrance, and in many ways it's the opposite, but none of them realise it's autism.
There's no solid point to this post, just an interesting story i wanted to share.

there’s something to be said about a queer man coming out saying he likes both women and men, but the second he vaguely says that he prefers one gender over the other the other his sexuality is belittled and he’s called straight. if you call yourself a queer ally and yet when a queer man comes out you say he’s queerbaiting, looking for attention, and lying about his sexuality, then you are not an ally, you’re homophobic. “im gay tho!” okay and so why do you feel the need to dictate the way someone labels their sexuality, why do you tell someone that they can’t be queer bc their attraction to the same gender is not the same as yours?
if someone comes out and your first instinct is to call them liars bc the way they experience attraction is not the way you like, then you’re an asshole and are apart of the reason why people are so scared of coming out.

Things I've learned from infiltrating a straight friend group
Not to do with them being straight, just them all being amazing humans. I've been sick for the past week and several of them have asked me where I've been and checked up on me. It's really the little things that warm your heart.
