"Let people enjoy things", "It's not that deep", "Stop being a hater", No.
You are capable of criticizing something and still enjoying it. Criticism should add to your enjoyment of the thing. Contextualizing and analyzing media is the only true sign that you enjoy it instead of just consume it. Stop selling the straggling iotas of your final brain cell to a fascio-capitalist system that wants to gorge you til you burst. Not consuming anything is better than blindly inhaling whatever is put in front of you without discretion.
Be an intellectual and have respect for yourself so you can have some sugary Wattpad fanfic and a Netflix reality TV show for dessert.

Would anyone be interested in participating in "round table" discussions regarding the Harry Potter series (and perhaps other books/series on occasion)?
I'd post questions like:
What are some dark things in Harry Potter that are just glossed over or ignored?
Is The Cursed Child canon? Why or why not?
What are the biggest inconsistencies in the HP world?

Announcing the theme for Terry Pratchett Day 2024: START IN THE WRONG PLACE.
You'll hear people say time and time again that you can start anywhere with Terry Pratchett's work, but don't start in the right place*, so let's truly embrace the joy and chaos to be found in the many routes through Discworld and beyond.
We will be making Sunday 28th April, Sir Terry Pratchett's birthday, one brimming with bookish delight, celebrating the many ways we love and travel through his work, and we're inviting you to join us.
Follow along with The Terry Pratchett Estate to stay up to date. We will be sharing more ahead of the weekend on how to get involved.
*A lot of people say the right place is anything but the right place, which in turn, may make it an equally wrong place...

North Star Series
Chapter 49 - Two April Fools
Start here:
Summary: The twins celebrate their birthday.
Warnings: a couple mentions of sex
~•~
Two cakes for two brothers. Orange and chocolate for Fred and strawberry for George. Y/N insisted on baking George's herself, causing a minor fuss with Molly, who considered it her motherly duty to bake all her children's birthday cakes.
In the end, they compromised by using fresh strawberries from Molly's garden, which Y/N planned on using in the first place and baking it at the Burrow under Molly's close supervision.
"You know, you could've just made me one at home and not told mum. Then I'd have two cakes," George whispered to her as they relaxed on the sofa after cake and presents.
"Oh," Y/N's eyes went wide for a moment. "I didn't think of that." Then she shrugged. "Well, it's the first time I've been able to properly help you celebrate. If you remember correctly, our first year together, you were down with the flu. And, the second year, I was in the States. It was important to me to do this for you."
George's eyes softened at that, and he pulled her closer.
"And besides," Y/N continued, settling into his warmth. "Molly's gonna have to pass the torch at some point."
"Hey, it's your head on the chopping block, not mine," her husband shrugged and chuckled.
"Oh gee, thanks, dear. Your support is overwhelming," she said with mock sarcasm and playfully elbowed him in the ribs.
"Hey now, no need to get violent!" George joked, tickling her and making her squeal much louder than either of them expected.
"What's going on in there?" Molly's voice bellowed from the kitchen.
"Y/N's giving George a special birthday gift," Ginny hollered back, a wicked grin spreading across her face.
"WHAT?" Molly thundered around the corner.
Arthur, who'd dozed off in his chair, snapped awake, looking around in confusion.
George and Y/N froze and stared at Ginny before pulling her into their melee.
Fred burst out laughing. "Bravo, Ginny, bravo!" He exclaimed with pride.
Hermione's face turned a bright red, and pointedly turned away to hide her embarrased giggle.
And, Ron nearly choked on his second slice of cake, prompting Harry to slap him hard on the back several times.
~•~
"Ah damn, wish I could've been there. Sounds like our little sister isn't so little anymore," Bill laughed, taking a swig of whiskey. "Shame Fleur couldn't make it either. I'm sure she would've gotten a good laugh out of it, too."
Ginny beamed and Y/N smiled at her sister-in-law's happy expression. She was glad that Ginny had finally accepted Fleur into the family. It'd irked Y/N that both Ginny and Molly had spent the past couple of months treating Fleur like a pariah. Y/N knew exactly what that was like, having once been on the receiving end of Molly's discontent, but at least she'd had Ginny on her side.
Poor Fleur didn't even have that. Y/N did her best to make the french girl feel welcome when Bill brought her around, but it had been hard with both of the Weasley women punching down on her.
"...well, we're happy you got to come to the after-party," her husband spoke, pulling Y/N from her thoughts.
"Me too," Bill raised his glass. "And it's a lovely evening for it."
After the official birthday party, all the siblings headed over to George and Fred's apartment, where they all relaxed on the rooftop, enjoying the warm night with bottles of firewhiskey and butterbeer.
"I love this seating area you put up here," Hermione said, sinking into the pillowy sofa. "So comfy and cozy. You must spend a lot of time up here."
"Used to," George said. "Not so much anymore, what with the cold winter winds and now Deatheaters flying about all over the damn place."
"But this is a special occasion," Fred said cheerfully. "And we put some extra wards up earlier to make it safer, including one that will render us invisible temporarily," he added, hoping to ease the sudden worried expression on Harry's face.
"For how long?" Harry asked.
"Couple hours," George answered. "Don't worry, mate, we're keeping an eye on the clock."
"Yeah, Harry," Ron patted his best friend on the shoulder. "Fred and George won't let anything happen to you. Hell, they won't even prank you - "
"Oh! That reminds me!" Fred interrupted, jumping up. "It's almost time for the grand finale."
"Grand finale?" A confused look passed across Y/N's face, eyes darting from one twin to the other.
"We were up to more than just warding the place while you baking with mum this morning," George winked.
Y/N's expression shifted from confusion to apprehension. "What did you do?" She asked slowly.
"Oh, nothing much," Fred shrugged. "It's just that we were a bit disappointed that we couldn't prank Filch this year. So we decided to do the next best thing. Prank a few Deatheaters!"
"WHAT?" Ginny stared at Fred.
"Hey, you sound just like mum did earlier today!" Fred teased.
Ginny stood and pointed her finger at her brother. "Don't try to change the subject!" She said, stepping toward him.
Y/N continued to glare from her husband to her brother-in-law. "Spill it, you two."
George moved to stand beside Fred, both of them grinning like fools. "Well, you see, Freddie got this last minute idea," he began. "So, we gathered up all the muggle fireworks we had in stock."
"And then disguised ourselves as Deatheaters," Fred continued. "It wasn't hard. We just mussed up our hair and made ourselves look like we haven't bathed in a year."
George grinned and nodded. "And we charmed the fireworks to go off..." the younger twin paused to check the time. "In about ten minutes. Then we snuck down to Knockturn Alley and tossed 'em around in random places."
"YOU WHAT??" Six voices shouted in perfect synchronization.
The two pranksters' eyes widened in surprise for the briefest of moments before their grins returned even bigger than before.
"C'mon, we can see the action best from over here," Fred waved them over to the right side of the roof.
George hung back and wrapped his arm around Y/N, who was still giving him the stink eye.
"I can’t believe you did that," she hissed. "After all that talk about me walking alone at night when I got back, and then you go and do this. This was like ten times more dangerous."
"But I wasn't alone. I had Fred," he explained.
"Yes, but you went into their territory," Y/N pointed out. "That was just asking for it."
"Nothing bad happened, love," he pled.
"But it could have," his wife countered, looking away. "You could've been captured or killed," she added with a trembling voice.
George stopped and stepped in front of her. "We were really careful. No one saw what we were doing or recognized us. We took every precaution." He lifted her chin with his fingers, meeting her gaze eye-to-eye. "And it won't happen again. Promise. It was only for our birthday."
Y/N looked at him for a long moment. "Good," she said finally. "Because you're really damn close to not getting laid tonight." Then she stepped around him quickly, hoping he didn't notice the smirk playing on her lips.
"Hey! Now wait minute, baby!" George hurried after her. "That's not fair!"
~•~
Y/N couldn't help the giggles that overtook her, watching panicked Deatheaters running around, aiming their wands in every direction, trying to stop the never-ending barrage of firecrackers. If it had it been anyone else, Y/N would've been deeply concerned for their welfare and very upset with George and Fred. But these were Deatheaters. They kidnapped, tortured, and killed people for fun. And they had a bounty on one of her dearest friend's head.
Of all the things the twins could've done to them, she figured they'd got off pretty light.
"Well, that was quite the explosive ending to a great day," Ron said as they descended the stairs to the apartment.
Harry nodded. "I can't remember the last time I laughed that hard."
"Glad you enjoyed it, mate," Fred clapped him on the back. "You deserve a good laugh."
"We all do," Hermione chimed in, a sly grin spread across her face.
"Hey, you know you did good when Hermione's praising you," Ginny joked, slipping beside Harry. Fred cocked an eyebrow at the move but said nothing.
"When are you all headed back to Hogwarts," Bill asked, addressing the younger crowd.
"Tonight," Ron sighed. "Gotta be back for classes in the morning. You know how it - "
Ron's voice faded into the distance as George once again pulled Y/N away.
"I know you enjoyed it," he said, grinning. "You were giggling like crazy."
"I did enjoy it," she responded, keeping her gaze straight ahead.
"So..." George probed. "Does that mean I'm forgiven?"
"Of course you're forgiven," she replied, still not looking at him.
"Cool. Cool," he said, nodding. "And does that mean - "
"I'll consider it," Y/N teased, turning to look at him with a wide smirk.
George's mouth fell open. "But I'm the birthday boy..."
"Indeed you are," she kissed his cheek. "Happy Birthday, my love." Then, without another word, she turned and hurried to catch up with the rest of the group, leaving her poor, confused husband in the dust.

I've gotten all riled up about the whole George and Angie pairing again.
Am I a little obsessed? Probably.
From the first time I read about it, I thought it was a bizarre and unfortunate pairing, but I didn't realize how ill-fated and toxic the relationship was doomed to become until I started researching twin loss for the North Star series.
However, rather than going into yet another tirade, because I'll just be repeating myself again, I'm posting links to all my previous tirades here.
My Soapbox Dissertation
These aren't directly related to twin loss, but still relevant.

A Little Comfort
Characters: George Weasley x reader
Summary: George Weasley finds himself longing for the comfort of being the little spoon, but his pride and embarrassment hold him back from asking. As he navigates his feelings, he discovers that vulnerability can lead to unexpected moments of intimacy.
Word Count: 1022 words
Prompt: Georgie wanting to be the little spoon but too embarrassed to ask. Just well built guy wanting spooned or to sit in your lap with his hair getting played with.
A/N:  anon
Tumblr media
George Weasley was many things: a prankster, an inventor, a loyal friend. But there was one thing he longed for more than anything else, something he kept hidden behind his confident facade—the desire to be cared for, to let his guard down and be wrapped up in the arms of someone who loved him. George Weasley just wanted to find love. It wasn't something he openly admitted to, especially not to his twin brother Fred, who would never let him live it down. George had always been the one to be the protector, but lately, he found himself yearning for the warmth and comfort of being held.
It was a quiet evening at The Burrow, the fire crackling in the hearth as George sat with his family, lost in his thoughts. He watched as his siblings and their significant others chatted and laughed, envy gnawing at him as he longed for the kind of closeness they shared.
As the night wore on, George found himself drawn to the idea of being held more and more. He imagined the feeling of strong arms wrapped around him, the gentle strokes of fingers through his hair, and the soothing rhythm of a heartbeat against his back. But admitting his desire felt like an insurmountable hurdle. What would his people think? Would they mock him mercilessly, or worse, pity him for his vulnerability? George couldn't bear the thought of being seen as weak, even if it meant denying himself the comfort he craved.
The days passed, and George's longing only grew stronger. He tried to bury his feelings beneath layers of humor and bravado, but they lingered in the back of his mind, a constant reminder of what he was denying himself. Every person who crossed his path was assessed for romantic partner potential, but nobody seemed to measure up.
One evening, as the family gathered for dinner at The Burrow. Charlie had brought one of his many friends with him and George found himself sitting next to you. He stole glances at you when he thought no one was looking, admiring the way your eyes sparkled with laughter and the way your smile lit up the room. This wasn’t the first time you had been a guest of the Weasley family but there was something different this time, something that seemed to call out to George, drawing him in.
As the meal progressed, George's desire to be near you grew almost unbearable. He could hardly concentrate on the conversation, his mind consumed with thoughts of you holding him close, your soft touch soothing his troubled heart. But as much as he longed for it, George couldn't bring himself to ask. The fear of rejection, of being laughed at or dismissed, held him back, trapping him in a cycle of longing and self-doubt.
After dinner, as the family dispersed to their various activities, George found himself alone with you in the living room. The fire cast a warm glow over the room, bathing everything in a soft, flickering light.
"Hey, George," you said, breaking the comfortable silence that had settled between you. "Are you okay? You seem a bit...distracted tonight."
George hesitated for a moment, unsure whether to confide in you. But something in your eyes, the genuine concern and warmth you showed him, gave him the courage to speak.
"I...I've been feeling a bit off lately," he admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. "Just...struggling with some things, you know?"
You nodded sympathetically, reaching out to place a comforting hand on his arm. "I'm here if you want to talk about it," you offered gently. “I know we’ve never really talked, but, and don’t tell Charlie this, you are most likely my favourite Weasley.”
George felt a lump form in his throat, the weight of his unspoken desires pressing down on him.
“Thanks. I mean, for the talking and the favourite thing.” His cheeks flushed a little as he rubbed the back of his neck nervously. You were always so kind to him, it was no surprise he seemed to have developed a bit of a crush on you. “Things have just been a little…” he trailed off; his brow furrowed.
“Stressful? I know you must be feeling a little like a third wheel now Fred and Angelina are together. It’ll be fine though, just focus on what you want.”
George considered your words, and, in a moment of bravery, he blurted out what he had been so desperately trying to keep in; too afraid to confess.
"I...I want to be the little spoon," he confessed, his cheeks flushing with embarrassment.
To his surprise, you didn't laugh or mock him. Instead, you smiled softly, your eyes shining with understanding and compassion.
"George," you said, your voice soft and reassuring. "There's nothing wrong with wanting to be held. Everyone needs comfort sometimes, even the strongest among us. I think you’d make quite a good little spoon.”
With those words, something inside George shifted. The weight of his fears began to lift, replaced by a sense of relief and acceptance. He had bared his soul to you, and instead of ridiculing him, you had embraced him with open arms.
"Thank you," he murmured, his voice thick with emotion.
Without hesitation, you pulled him into a warm embrace, wrapping your arms around him and holding him close. George leaned into your touch, savoring the feeling of being held, his eyes closing as he wrapped his arms around you in return.
Several hours later, Charlie wandered through the living room, his eyebrow raising and a smirk playing on his lips at the scene before him. The two of you were lay on the sofa, half asleep. You were stroking George’s hair and whispering words of comfort, while George’s eyes were closed, a contented smile on his lips and a sense of peace washing over him. Charlie slowly backed out of the room, leaving the two of you in peace. He’d always wondered how long it would take you and George to get together, and now it didn’t seem like he’d have to wait much longer for that answer.

From one George Weasley Simp to another. What made you feel that special attachment to him/the twins in general?
Mine was the relatability to always needing to help everyone feel better and smile, but never seeming to be the one allowed to have their moment to mourn. Like he lost his ear, and his twin, and just kinda had to take care of everyone else still. It’s so painfully relatable to me, from the perceptive of having to be everyone’s ray of sunshine. Especially with losing a literal body part at the same time.
I would let him cry. He needs it.
Tumblr media
You know I love me some Georgie!
For me, it's his gentler, more thoughtful nature that's always drawn me to him.
I think growing up, he sometimes struggled with feeling like the spare twin. Like the one people sought out only when his more charismatic, larger-than-life twin wasn't available. (Something I do understand being a wallflower and growing up with a larger-than-life sibling).
And because of that, a big part of George’s identity is grounded in his ability to take care of others. I completely agree with what you said about him wanting to be everyone's ray of sunshine, despite his own pain. Whether it's cheering someone up or keeping Fred from accidentally killing himself with a new invention or prank.
It makes him feel needed. And loved.
And it's also why I think he probably blamed himself for Fred's death, even though it was a surprise attack that no one saw coming. George had always been there to protect Fred. And the one time he wasn't...
Yeah, our sweet boy definitely needs a cuddle and a shoulder to cry on.

GWG Ramblings
The Tommy Westphall Universe
Within the Harry Potter Fandom, there is a theory that the entire series was nothing more than the escapist imaginings of a severely abused Harry locked in a cupboard under the stairs. It's a theory that Rowling, when asked about it, neither confirmed it nor denied it:
"I think that’s a fabulous point, and that speaks so perfectly to the truth to the books, because I had it suggested to me more than once that Harry actually did go mad in the cupboard, and that everything that happened subsequently was some sort of fantasy life he developed to save himself."
It's a hotly contested theory among HP fans and understandably so.
And while we could argue this theory all day, there's only person who'd really know.
Tommy Westphall.
~•~
Tommy Westphall was an autistic character in the 80s medical drama, St. Elsewhere. He was a minor character, appearing in only 15 episodes.
The show centered around St. Eligius, a teaching hospital in Boston. It was a much loved and highly lauded show, running for six seasons and winning a dozen Emmys. But none of that matters. The only thing anyone cares about anymore is the final scene of the final episode.
In the scene, the medical director, Dr. Donald Westphall and his father (another doctor from the series) enter the living room where Tommy is sitting and holding a snow globe. Donald has just arrived home from work and is wearing construction-worker gear. He and his dad watch Tommy for a few moments, then Donald turns to his father and says, "I don't understand this autism thing, Pop. Here's my son. I talk to him, I don't even know if he can hear me. He sits there all day long, in his own world, staring at that toy. What's he thinking about?"
The camera then zooms into the snow globe, and inside, we see a tiny version of St. Eligius Hospital, implying that the entire series was a figment of Tommy's imagination.
Pretty wild, huh?
Well, it gets wilder.
A doctor from St. Elsewhere, Dr. Roxanne Turner was in an episode of Homicide: Life on the Street.
Not a big deal. Crossovers happen all the time. Except...
If Dr. Turner was made up by Tommy, does that mean he dreamed up Homicide too?
Then, on top of that, Detective John Munch, one of the main characters on Homicide moved to Law and Order after Homicide ended. Detective Munch went on to appear in episodes of The X-Files, Arrested Development, and The Wire.
All of which took place in the mind of one child.
But it doesn't stop there. In one episode, the doctors of St. Elsewhere went out for drinks at a local bar in Boston. The bar in question was Cheers. The Cheers. Making Cheers also one of Tommy's daydreams.
Then Cheers spun off Fraiser, which crossed over with Caroline in the City, which crossed over with Mad About You, which crossed over with Seinfeld. Further expanding Tommy's vast imaginary universe.
Now, at this point, I'm sure you're wondering how Harry Potter fits into all this.
It all has to do with the show Supernatural.
So, remember how Detective Munch from Homicide also appeared in X-Files, thus placing the infamous sci-fi show into the Tommy Westphall's ever-expanding universe?
Well, in X-Files, there is a Lariat car rental company. Later, in Supernatural's episode, "Time is On My Side," we see Lariat Car Rentals, (which btw, is also featured in Breaking Bad and Veronica Mars).
Then, in the Supernatural episode, "Regarding Dean", Rowena MacLeod, a witch, suggests using the Obliviate spell to help Dean with his memory.
The Obliviate spell, of course, comes from Harry Potter, thus indicating that the entire HP universe is just another one of Tommy's countless daydreams.
(Btw, in addition to this connection, there are two others that I haven't yet had time to research.)
- In the show Galavant, which has been linked to Tommy's universe, one of the characters, Xanax, mentions the Petrificus Totalus spell from The Philosopher's Stone.
- Then, in the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie trilogy, a montage features The New York Star, the newspaper that Carrie Bradshaw worked for in Sex and the City (also a figment of Tommy's imagination.)
But that's not all. Three other newspapers are in the same montage, The New York Chronicle, The New York Gazette, and The New York Clarion.
Each of these papers has been featured in other shows and movies linked to Tommy's universe, such as:
-The Twilight Zone
-Beverly Hills 90210
-I Love Lucy
-Citizen Kane
-Growing Pains
-The Pride of the Yankees
-Felicity
-The Untouchables
...just to name a few.
To date, 419 shows have been traced back to Tommy Westphall.
And that doesn't count movie connections, which, btw, includes the entire MC Universe and the Aliens Franchise.
Let's start with the MC Universe.
In Avengers: Infinity War, we discover that Tobias Funke is part of the Collector's collection. Tobias Funke was a character from Arrested Development, which crossed over with Homicide which crossed over with St. Elsewhere.
As far as Aliens goes, it gets a little more complicated.
In St. Elsewhere, the character Dr. Mark Craig mentions that B.J. Hunicutt from the series M.A.S.H. was a former colleague.
Then, as mentioned earlier, the doctors of St. Eligius went to Cheers. One of the characters in Cheers is Fraiser, the titular character of the show Fraiser.
During his radio show, Fraiser receives a call from John Hemingway, a character from the John Laroquette Show.
The bus stop in front of the office in the John Laroquette show was built by Yoyodyne.
Yoyodyne is a client of Wolfram and Hart, a law firm featured in Buffy, the Vampire Slayer (as well as Angel, The Adventures of Buckaroo Bonzai, Star Trek, Firefly, Red Dwarf, Dollhouse and Bones).
Another client of Wolfram and Hart is Weyland-Yutani, which built weapons and ships in Aliens.
So, that means M.A.S.H., Aliens, Buffy and all the aforementioned shows and movies exist within the same universe. Tommy Westphall's universe.
So, yeah...
To quote one reddit user:
"Forget the Matrix. We're all living in Tommy Westphall's mind."
If you're curious, here is a masterlist of all the TV shows that have been traced back to Tommy Westphall.
