get some sleep, baby girl
A/N - i’m sorry if this sucked really bad, this is my first blurb ever. i tried to make it okayish. this is just a fluffy blurb where the reader is struggling to get their baby to sleep and dadrry saves the day. i hope you enjoy!
There’s nothing Harry loved more than waking up to his two beautiful girls every morning, a constant reminder of how grateful and lucky he was.
Each morning he’d spend at least ten minutes admiring his beautiful wife, Y/N, as she slept peacefully next to him, often finding himself subconsciously tucking a lone strand of hair behind her ear or carefully maneuvering himself to hold her comfortably in his arms. Soon enough Harry would hear the blabbering baby noises of their one-year-old daughter coming from down the hall, causing him to gently remove Y/N from his arms and lay her back down onto the bed before placing a kiss to her cheek and quietly leave the room to greet his little sunflower.
But this particular morning was different.
“Come on, baby, please. Please stop crying.” Y/N softly spoke to the young girl she held in her arms, desperately trying to rock her back to sleep. Hot tears rolled down the little girl’s face as she let out a heartbreaking cry, her blue binky falling from her mouth and landing on the carpet below.
Sighing as she retrieved the soother from the floor, Y/N looked down at her baby still fussing in her arms as she let a tear slip from her eye. She was so exhausted and tired, wanting only to have both herself and her baby girl go back to sleep. Looking over at the small clock planted on the wall of the nursery, it displayed ‘3:26am’, signaling to Y/N that she had been trying to get her daughter back to sleep for over half an hour. Still rocking her very much upset baby in her arms, Y/N slid down the wall she was leaning against and let her tears flow freely.
“I wish you could just tell me what’s wrong, angel..” Y/N whispered through her tears as she closed her eyes. Her heart shattered over and over as she listened to her baby continue to cry. She felt completely and utterly hopeless, and even more so like a terrible mother.
Harry woke up quite suddenly and in a small state of panic as he heard the loud screams of his daughter. Taking a moment to wake up, he was quick to notice that his wife was nowhere to be seen. Harry slowly got up from the king-sized bed the pair shared and made his way down the hall to the nursery, the cries of the little girl becoming louder as he neared the room.
The scene Harry saw when he opened the door to his daughter’s nursery was enough to crush him. His darling wife, quietly sobbing with constant tears dripping from her face, resting against the wall as she held his equally upset little sunflower in her arms.
Y/N’s head snapped up towards the door as she saw him enter the room. She picked herself up off the floor and slowly made her way over to Harry. Concern written all over his face, Harry looked into Y/N’s glossy eyes and gently wiped away the tears resting on her cheeks. “Oh, baby. There’s no need to cry, s’alright darling.” He softly spoke.
“She won’t stop, Harry,” Y/N said feeling defeated, “I’ve tried everything I can think of but she’s still so upset.” Harry looked down at the clearly worn out one-year-old, her soft brown curls a complete mess on her head and those usually bright green eyes flooded with tears.
“I feel like I’m failing as a mother..” Y/N muttered to herself.
“Hey, none of that,” Harry said, placing a finger under her chin causing Y/N to look at him, “You’re an absolutely amazing mother to our little bub. She wouldn’t be ‘ere if it wasn’t for you, love. You’re doing such a great job and I’m so proud of ya, y’know?” He flashed a small smile at her, which she returned before pressing a soft kiss to his lips.
“I love you so much, H.”
“I love you more, m’sweet girl. Now, let me take her,” He began as he delicately took the overtired girl from Y/N’s arms, “I’ll take care of this little one while you go back to bed, alright lovey?”
Y/N let out a yawn, rubbing her eye with one hand and handing him the binky with the other, “Okay. Thank you, baby.” She softly rested her head on his shoulder, allowing him to kiss her forehead before she slowly walked out of the room.
Harry walked to the corner of the nursery and sat down on the rocking chair, removing the throw blanket from underneath him and draping it over his legs. He let out a small sigh as he saw his little girl grunting as she tried to get comfortable in his arms.
“What’s the matter, little one, y’not having a very good night are ya?” He spoke softly as he placed her binky back in her mouth, noticing how reddened her little cheeks were after crying for so long. She let out a small whine as she looked up at Harry, snuggling up closer to him.
“S’alright, baby, Daddy’s here.” Harry brought the blanket up his body further to cover them both and held his little girl close to his chest, her cheeks smushing against him as he gently rocked them both. Within five minutes the little girl was fast asleep, small snores coming from her. By this time Harry was also on the verge of sleeping, his eyes droopy with yawns frequently leaving his mouth. He’d thought about placing the sleeping baby back into her crib and returning to Y/N in their bed, but he was simply too content and comfortable where he was.
Harry opened his eyes slightly and tilted his head down enough to kiss his baby’s head, smiling to himself as he watched her sleep.
“I love you, my sweet girl. Both you and Mummy, so much.” He paused for a moment, closing his eyes as sleep began to take over, “M’gorgeous girls, what would I do without ya?”
-
Soft sunlight beaming through the bedroom window was what woke Y/N up the next morning. Scrunching her eyes and rolling over, she had expected to feel Harry’s presence next to her. But she was greeted with nothing but an empty space.
Y/N lazily got out of bed and made her way to her daughter’s room, the place she’d assume she’d find Harry. Carefully opening the nursery door, her heart swelled at the sight before her.
Harry, his facial features cute and softened as he slept, holding their sleeping baby girl impossibly close to his chest, quiet snores coming from both of them. Y/N softly padded over to the pair. She reached down and pushed the binky back into her sleeping baby’s mouth as she quietly stirred, and pulled the soft blanket up over them more.
As Y/N made her way out of the room, she turned around and looked at the two once more. She giggled to herself as she took in the sight before her. Closing the door with a smile, she softly spoke to herself, “My two loves, what would I do without them.”
