how do you stay motivated to draw? art is one of my favorite hobbies but my perfectionism gets in the way of me doing it SO much !! i just want to be able to draw whatever makes me feel happy but my brain won't let me draw anything it doesn't consider perfect T_T

I have phases like this where everything just feels so ugly and flawed and it makes me not want to pick up a pencil. Recently I came to the conclusion that finished is better than perfect, at least for most art forms.

Sometimes I see people's art and the critic in me goes "hmm they could have stronger knowledge of x. I don't like how they rendered y. But I still like this piece as a whole!" While I am over here picking apart my art and theirs, they are producing drawing after drawing! I am not! Because I have built these ridiculous standards for myself.

Just try to make something- anything. Finish it. Get to a point where someone can look at it and think it's done even if you feel like it isn't. Then do it again! I think it's important not to dwell on it for too long.

Literally just a few days ago I got so frustrated that I wasn't making anything finished that I decided I MUST make something simple ASAP. So I finished a drawing for the first time in a while. And I liked it !

That's just the thought process that works for me though

I usually use the default round brush for lines!

Block in colors with lasso or something like a G Pen nothin special

Soft airbrush for gradients, and star halftones for fun details, these r up in my kofi!
