"Wilting Azaleas"

Victoria King formerly known as Victoria Reyes was critically wounded in a car accident that mirrored the death of Oswald’s parents, her car ran off the bridge connecting Ashbourne and Arsenic. She was coming home from a late night meeting with Arsenic’s mayor about park renovations, her loving husband and 9 year old child waited at home for her return. Oswald felt a part of his soul was dying as he saw her laying in the hospital bed, her life hanging by a thread. When his parents died he felt a burden be lifted from his shoulders as the monsters that ran his life were gone, though now that the same fate was awaiting his beloved, it made him sick. 

The tears in his eyes blurred the image of her, he turned away to compose himself as his eyes landed on the single azalea flower in a black vase with a little card next to it. The sadness turned to rage reading the note, ‘Get Well -N.R ♡’ allotting to a Reyes family member was the culprit.

Oswald stormed out of the room to find out when the flower was delivered and by whom, his anger didn’t help get him the answers he needed. The poor receptionist was caught up in his fit as he tried to reason with him, she didn’t have access to the things he wanted. She had no choice but to call security on him, he was fortunately not kicked out but he was given a serious warning about her behavior (He was grieving after all).

Ghost couldn’t think straight, the smell of her blood flooded his senses making him want nothing more than to protect her even though he had no clue how to. The familiar scent of his sister and adoptive father made his grip around Kayla’s unconscious body tighten, a low growl building in his chest.

“This is way beyond a bad idea, Brother.” Peaches’ voice cut him off as she tried to reason with him, they were nothing but paupers compared to the girl Ghost clutched in his arms so tight. “I don’t care, I made my decision and I’m sticking to it.” He said with a hint of tension towards his sister making her give him an odd look, but there was no reasoning with him now. “Whatever you say, boogie. But if the village comes knocking on our door for their lost princess, it’s your tail on the line not mine..Jeez you are so hopeless..” Peaches scoffed as she left to go hunt to get her mind off of how strangely jealous she was of her brother’s love life.

She had her long brown hair pulled back in a simple clip and she wore a plain purple sweater and a blue long skirt but I can only describe her as mystical. She didn’t even notice me until the fish she was looking at swam in front of my face and we made eye contact. I was so nervous it made me sick but her smile never wavered, I swear it got bigger as we just shared that space together…”

Maya giggled at the boys as the long day of dealing with oily parts called for a shower, how was she gonna break the news to them.

Kayla stood on the curved trunk of an apple tree, reaching for one of the shiny red fruits it had to offer. Her basket placed by the bottom opened for her to drop the apples into as she gently picked them. A smile on her face never faded even when she heard the unsuccessful sneaking someone was trying to do behind her, the crunching of leaves approaching caused her to giggle. “Rah!” She said quickly turning around holding her hands up like claws towards the person a few inches from her. 

“Ahhh.” His plan backfired on him as she scared him instead, “No fair..It was my turn to try and catch you..” The wolf boy slouched playing with his gloves as he pouted. 

“I’m sorry, luv. I couldn’t help myself. I promise you’ll have another chance.” Kayla took his face into her hands, rubbing his rosy cheeks with her thumbs tenderly. “Once I’m done picking some apples, I can make you those tarts you like to make up for it.” Ghost nodded leaning into her touch, his tail wagging happily behind him. 

They spent the rest of the afternoon together picking apples and baking, then ended the night with cuddles by the fire as they fell asleep.
