another banger character study 💥💥
I do always enjoy amnesia exploration when it comes to Nobori returning back to his own timeline. While I do favor instances where his memory doesn't return, its also heartbreaking in a way eheh.
And while we don't know here if Nobori will remember more, it is fun to see him get upset over their happy photo with their wedding bands.
I wonder if it simply fell off when Nobori landed in Hisui, or maybe fell off in Unova when Nobori got whisked away - but either way he doesnt know where it is. It's troubling to him! Especially because he wants to know more and be the Nobori he thinks Kudari wants from him.
Its a rough transition for both of them, but they both try.
Submastober Day 22!
Inspiration: There's an older OC-tober prompt-list here that I am using.
Title: A Promise to Remember Prompt: Memory Word count: 1200 Synopsis: Ingo doesn't remember their apartment when he returns from Hisui. And that's not the worst of it.
~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~
Ingo stood in the entryway of a still unfamiliar apartment, gaze lingering on all the little intricate details that revealed so much about the inhabitants. He had been brought here by Emmet upon their return to their own time, his twin hoping that a familiar location would help clear away the fog that blocked Ingo's past from him. There were two thick pea-coats hung on an elaborately carved coat rack, a shoe rack with several pairs for a myriad of occasions, an umbrella bin with two inside, and a few decorations. Some of these things were undoubtedly his, since Emmet almost exclusively wore white clothes and many of the items were darker colors, but he only recognized some of it due to recent use.
Emmet was currently out, back at work in the Subway Ingo was told they both cherished. After rediscovering what a Subway was, it sounded like something he would indeed cherish - a place he could work with his brother, battling pokémon with people who loved it as much as they did. Hearing about trains sparked a feeling deep inside, an odd curiosity that felt as though it came from years of already deep study. He wondered on concepts despite not understanding the verbiage he was using. It was one of the most confusing parts of returning.
The easiest part of returning was the relief of being by Emmet's side again. Although he had forgotten the depths of affection, and felt an all encompassing shame for it, he always knew he was missing someone terribly. That feeling instantly subsided upon seeing Emmet, and even when his twin went off to work, knowing him again was a weight lifted.
Ingo was not yet ready to return to work, on this they both agreed, but the Subway needed at least one of their Masters to return. After showing Ingo how an Xtransceiver worked again, Emmet was comfortable enough to leave his side. Hopefully Ingo would remember enough soon so that Emmet didn't have to worry so much anymore. But, that did mean that Ingo was left home with only some of their pokémon. It was an excellent opportunity to bond with them again, but Ingo also had a more specific plan for his time alone.
There was much to be learned from Emmet directly, and his little brother was positively bubbling with information to share with him. But, he also didn't want to trouble his twin with the knowledge of just how much Ingo had forgotten. Emmet's eyes had darted all over Ingo when he found out about the amnesia, eyebrows knit with worry and disbelief. Sparing Emmet from feeling that again was also for Ingo's own selfish needs; it broke his heart every time he saw Emmet look so lost.
Slowly, he began his personal exploration through their apartment. He wasn't looking for anything particular, just stopping and investigating whenever something caught his attention. Back when he lived here normally, certainly everything within in the apartment must have been so mundane; what's so important about the cutlery that you use every day, after all? But he found himself stopping and marveling at even things such as the designs of utensils they had, the sorts of coats they had in their hallway closet, how they had folded their clothing to fit in the organizational furniture they used.
Everything that had been normal to him then felt so new now, as though he was exploring the house of a stranger. But this was no stranger's house, this was the home he and his beloved brother shared. This was proof of their peaceful lives together, the evidence that they had been happy with each other as their true companion. Seeing everything filled him with a joy that couldn't be described in the words he had available to him at the present moment.
However, while there was immense joy, there was also a deep sorrow in his heart. This was all his, a true happiness, and he'd been pulled away from it for so long. Looking at all the pictures of him and Emmet throughout the apartment, he became misty eyed at the thought of all the lost experiences. Reaching out to run his fingertips gently down the glass of a elaborate picture frame, his expression crumpled, though he desperately tried to hold back the tears.
There were so many pictures of him and Emmet, and his twin looked happy and full of life in each of them. But none could compare to the look Emmet had in this one special image. An immaculate glowing smile graced his twin's face, pink dusted cheeks standing out even brighter against the pale of his hair and suit. Ingo stood next to him, their cheeks touching and left hands extended towards the camera. They were pointing their fingers in opposite directions (his up and Emmet's down) but the true focus was the rings they were showing off: Wedding rings.
Every time he looked at this picture, he felt unable to contain his grief. He had even forgotten that; a love so deep that even though it must certainly not been official, they'd still gotten the rings and had some sort of special ceremony for it.
Emmet had not mentioned it, and even when his gloves were off, Ingo had not seen a ring on his finger. It might have caused a bit of upset in his heart to see Emmet with a ring without explanation, but surely surely Emmet must have wanted to tell him such a thing right away? Their relationship had been revealed to him already, so why not this aspect of it?
Perhaps it was because Ingo did not have his ring, indeed hadn't even known he had one to keep safe. Maybe Emmet was so heartbroken about Ingo losing it that he thought to hide it? Maybe he thought that marriage was just a bit too far for Ingo to process at this current time. It couldn't have been that Emmet wanted to forget it too; no, that thought was horrible and Ingo quickly swept it away. With how Emmet had behaved, there was absolutely no way that Emmet felt anything less now than what he had on that day.
Every time he looked at this picture, he promised himself that as soon as he remembered it, not just simply knowing of it from a picture, he would propose to Emmet again. He would swear his life and love to him again, and give him a new ring to add to the old one. Proof of a renewed dedication to his precious love, and this time, he would not forget.
He always pulled himself together by the time Emmet came home, but his promise was never forgotten. He took every opportunity to hold Emmet's hand as a placeholder for his ring, and Emmet always held it back so tightly, so lovingly. Maybe he too was waiting for the day that Ingo would remember their vow. And Ingo would definitely not disappoint him. One day, he would remember everything about Emmet, and make them equal again. One day, he would look at this apartment they shared, and remember every smile Emmet made there.

Nobori got too used to living alone 🙏
But also, he was living a lonely life too... its a bit sad that he seems a bit of a loner, even though he *is* friendly with others and is happy to chat.
Its good at least that, with his taking care of Kudari, he is giving a bit of care to himself as well.
Hopefully, he stops neglecting himself and gets a bit more happiness and fulfillment as he cares for his brother.
Submastober Day 21!
Inspiration: There's an older OC-tober prompt-list here that I am using.
Title: Time to Improve Prompt: Different Era Word count: 1727 Synopsis: Ingo thinks about what his life was like before Emmet appeared in Hisui, and considers what he would like it to be like going forward.
~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~
The house that the Pearl Clan had allowed Ingo to use was modest, but as someone completely unknown to them (as well as himself), it was far more than he could have ever hoped to ask for. Since he had no belongings upon his arrival except the clothes he wore, the house was positively ample in terms of storage space. Sometimes, for fun, he would change the location he stored his coat and hat while he was home, and made elaborate decorations with the pokéballs of the pokémon he was planning to travel with the next day. He could tell the pokémon enjoyed it, and so he made sure to always pick fun designs.
He also didn't really spend much time there, either patrolling through even the harshest conditions, or being posted at the Training Grounds of Jubilife. He sometimes ate meals there, when he wasn't invited out by his clan, and slept there. It was lit by lantern but he usually wasn't awake much past the dark unless he was returning from a late night patrol.
However, now, he had a guest! The Man in White from his dreams, who he now remembered as Emmet, had appeared before him. Of course there was no doubt that he would bring Emmet into his home - he could not burden the Pearl Clan further with a request for yet another house and Emmet needed a fine place to stay. He would have thought as much even if Emmet was only his brother, but feelings he'd long struggled to understand now had their recipient again. To be blunt, Emmet made his heart flutter in the most pleasant of ways, and he couldn't begin to imagine living separately from him again. Emmet immediately reciprocated, even telling Ingo that it had been that way for over a decade! Ingo was glad he'd been so lucky in his former life, to have a close and dedicated love that had found him once more.
Emmet always smiled and allowed Ingo to give him a short (very short) tour of the home that Ingo had been staying in. Ingo could feel his face flush in joy when Emmet corrected him to 'our home,' and all he could manage in the moment was to agree gently. Emmet sat his coat and hat next to wherever Ingo placed his, and Ingo had to admit it looked much better than his outer wear sitting there alone. Though, at the time, he also thought that maybe Emmet deserved a place for his things that didn't require waiting on Ingo to place his own.
Emmet's positivity remained no matter what they were doing. He seemed deeply unfamiliar with the methods of cooking that Ingo used, but he sat close to the fire and offered assistance whenever Ingo made them dinner. Emmet often expressed his desire to help more, but he could stir and chop and go outside to gather herbs as compliments to their dishes. After having been by himself for so long, this was easily halving the amount of effort Ingo had previously had to employ. Plus, he enjoyed simply having companionship while he ate in their home. Eating with others before was usually the result of going somewhere else - no one came to Ingo's home for a meal before. In fact, Ingo enjoyed it so much, that they began taking a break during their patrols to return home for lunch.
One night, Emmet wasn't feeling well and went to bed a little earlier than Ingo; after Ingo remembered the exact nature of their relationship, they had started to head to bed at the same time, though not always for sleep. Ingo's bedding was not the most impressive, but he'd managed to requisition a futon for Emmet and they placed them close together. Emmet, of course, wanted to learn exactly how to set up and put away his futon; he picked it up so quickly and smiled so brightly when Ingo complimented his skill.
Ingo wasn't yet tired, and after he'd finished some potato mochi, he decided to check in on Emmet. When he knelt by his sweet twin, he was troubled with the sight he found. Emmet was shivering in his sleep, curled up on his side with eyebrows furrowed. Wasting no time, Ingo stood up and retrieved the blanket for Emmet's futon. Without disturbing him, Ingo gently spread the soft blanket over Emmet, sighing in relief when Emmet's features smoothed out. Sitting back into seiza, Ingo took a moment to assess their home. If he thought about it, it was a bit cold.
Actually, the more he considered it, the more he realized it was more than just a bit cold. It was rather early in the year to be this temperature, wasn't it? Standing, Ingo went to stoke the fire, considering if it had always been like this in the house or if they were simply experiencing a cold snap. Now that it was at the forefront of his thoughts, had he simply been tolerating it this whole time?
He had, hadn't he? Before Emmet's arrival, some small part of him had always felt as though his amnesia was a punishment of some sort. His complete and total lack of context for his life before coming to Hisui left him with little to piece together. He could assume he was a good man even back then, but wouldn't everyone want to believe that about themselves? If he was truly brought here by a deity level pokémon without being given a purpose like Akari, then didn't that lend itself to the idea that he was being punished? In that case, then of course he should struggle through uncomfortable circumstances in penance.
Emmet, though… No matter what Ingo thought of himself, there was no way that Emmet had ever done something worthy of requiring penance. He was kind and gentle, capable and friendly. Emmet was also more charitable than Ingo; while Ingo had lost his patience with Melli (going so far as to tell someone he thought the warden was causing trouble for others), Emmet merely laughed and joked around with the trouble-making young man.
They had already begun making changes to the way Ingo had let himself live. Simply taking the time for a lunch instead of only eating dinner or when others brought him along was an example. Ingo didn't go to bed as early anymore either, since he had Emmet's companionship even after the darkness fell. Instead of always scrounging for the right herbs, they had started a small garden outside; located close enough that even when his back hurt, Ingo could go out and find what he needed. Emmet had insisted on putting medicinal herbs in the garden too, so even Ingo's back pain wasn't as frequent anymore. Ingo, simply put, felt better overall.
But that was for Ingo's sake. Ingo had been here a long time now, and the chances to get used to the hardships had been plentiful. He'd grown to tolerate quite a bit, with the scars to prove it, but Emmet didn't have to deal with that the way he did. Emmet had scars of his own, but they didn't match the roughly healed scars that were all across Ingo's body. For the briefest moment, Ingo felt ashamed for how differently his scars marked up his skin compared to the well healed ones on Emmet's body. But Emmet had simply embraced him, and all worries that Emmet found it off-putting had ceased.
For him, Ingo would do anything. Starting small with improving their home was the easiest. But, Ingo wondered if maybe it was time to return to finding a way home. When he'd first arrived in Hisui, he'd desperately wanted to leave once he was healed up enough to get out of his hospital bed. The very day he was able to, he began exploring to find a way home. He couldn't get very far at first, but expanded his searchable area little by little. Luckily, he proved himself quite capable at working with pokémon, and that allowed him to travel outwards even farther.
Over time, however, the hope that it was possible to find his way home began to dwindle and diminish in his heart. The wish to return to where he'd come from never disappeared, but the belief that it was something he could be capable of? It hardly felt like an attainable goal. He didn't seem to be from this region at all, so it wasn't so simple as finding a proper route. No, it seemed his fall from the sky was quite literal, and not a matter of being pulled up into a storm.
Emmet's arrival showed there was still a link to where he'd come from, which had bolstered his resolve quite substantially. Living with Emmet here in Hisui was hardly a bad thing, especially if they could improve their home, but wouldn't it be nice if they could go back to their original home? If Emmet's stories were anything to go by, the differences in their home compared to here was like an entirely different era! It astounded Ingo to believe that he could come from a place as technologically advanced as Emmet claimed, but he was eager to return and see if he remembered anything more.
Checking on Emmet once again, it was a relief to find him no longer shivering. With how peacefully he was sleeping now, Ingo couldn't help but reach out and pet his hair. With a soft murmur, Emmet turned towards his touch. Ingo's heart squeezed at how cute he was, and decided maybe it was time for bed after all. Changing into his sleepwear, Ingo climbed into their makeshift large futon next to Emmet. Without waking up, Emmet scooted closer to him, and Ingo wrapped him in an embrace. Whispering a little apology to Emmet for bringing the cold into the futon, he kissed his twin's forehead, chuckling softly as Emmet muttered incomprehensibly back.
If Emmet was better in the morning, they could discuss what they would do from here together. If Emmet was getting sick, Ingo would tend to him as he told his younger twin about his plans, and then go into town to get him a treat. Either way, he would do his best to improve Emmet's life the way Emmet had improved his.
