On my walk home from the cafe I was thinking about Sanji (as one does) and how every influence in his life for 19 years screamed at him to hunker down, stay silent, and never appear weak.

As much as I love Zeff and know he loved Sanji, it's clear he has such a straight-laced and unflinching view of masculinity and what it means to be a man. The environment on the Baratie was an extension of that.

It was a machismo world where affection was hidden behind kicks to the head and insults. The kind of environment where cutting your hand or something gets a response of "what? You call that an injury? Don't cry over nothing". Where outright kindness has to be dragged out of people, and then immediately covered up with a half-baked insult.

Throw into that environmemt a little boy who is desperate to prove he's not the failure he was told he was, and out pops a man who wears his heart on his sleeve for "acceptable manly emotions" but who hides real emotions behind anger, and hides pain (physical or emotional) altogether so as not to seem weak.

Tack onto that the idea that the only surefire way to show love is through self sacrifice (his mom + Zeff), then of course Sanji will be all sorts of jacked up.

We see throughout the series how Sanji is so unwilling to be vulnerable or to even admit he's feeling hurt at all. Plaster a smile on, make some comment about loving women, and voila! He's the man's man everyone expects. No need to worry about him. After all: he's strong.

Yes, yes, Sanji letting Zoro help in the kitchen by letting him chop vegetables because he's good with pointy objects.

BUT. Have you considered?

They live in a world without most electrical appliances. A FUCKTON of physical labor goes into baking (and keep in mind how often Sanji bakes treats for the girls).

Sanji being tired (physically) and not feeling like taking 10 min to whip whipped cream. Being tired (mentally) of Zoro making fun of him for never working out. Sanji saying "fuck it" and just starts putting him to work.

The foccacia dough needs to be kneaded? "Have fun working a sticky mess for 20 minutes, asshole"

Need meringue? "No, STIFF peaks marimo. Don't tell me you're wimping out already"

"Are you even TRYING to flatten that steak Marimo?"

"Yes, it needs whipped cream. YES, I know you just made some yesterday. We need more"

Zoro's shoulders are burning but he's trying SO HARD not to lose face with the cook and meanwhile Sanji is silently losing it at Zoro's shock that cooking can in fact be a workout

chapter 7 is technically written already (not yet edited though). the problem is i haven’t finalized some of the plot in chapters 9 and 10, so i hesitate to publish ch 7 bc i i don’t want to have to go back and change things later 🫠

Son Altesse Royale, reine d'Artémise and Stinky are technically not theirs. they're just cats that sat in front of the restaurant and zoro fed them scraps often enough that they kinda just live there now.

as for the portal, idk a just like time travel aus. its always sanji getting sent back for some angst and serious sexuality and/or gender crisis but i wanted a silly zoro moment.

Pirates of the carribbean AU where Sanji is A captain of the Royal Navy (for Germa or WG) and he met Zoro, a pirate who is about to get hanged. He visited Zoro everyday in his cell before execution and Zoro asked Sanji to Runaway with him. Would Sanji do it?

Law watches them with more intensity than is warranted for the situation. When Zoro sits back down next to him, he comments. “Didn’t know you two were that far already.”

“Huh?”

“Into the courtship, I mean,” Law clarifies, without actually clarifying anything.

“What courtship?” Zoro stares dumbly at him.

Law looks at him. Looks at Sanji. Looks back at him. “The…are you telling me you don’t know?”

Zoro’s starting to get annoyed now. “If you don’t start making sense in the next five goddamn seconds, I swear to god, I will stab you.”

Law throws his hands up in the air. “You’re the one not making any sense! Why the fuck are you two going through a courtship ritual if you aren’t actually courting him?”

All right, if he’s going to be that way. Zoro puts his hand on his swords, eyeing Law. Hm. Where would be the least messy place to stab him? Sanji will get mad if he gets blood all over his favorite shirt, so he’d like to avoid that if at all possible.
