Just picking up the energy from the original post, my guy. Highly suggest you check out different websites because tumblr has always been a heavy ship space. Saying this as someone who has been around since 2010. Always willing to discuss Gihun and his emotional journey over these past three seasons. I truly think Lee Jung Jae’s acting and Hwang Dong-Hyuk have created a truly vibrant character that is once in a generation. The layers and subtle changes season to season are truly what makes him more than just your average death games protagonist.

To be honest it is a little sad that Squid Game is insisting in delivering a message that's being ignored just to focus %100 on the ships. There should be some discussion about it.

There’s nothing wrong with enjoying a fandom for just a ship. There’s nothing wrong with enjoying a show for its meta analysis. It’s all about finding it and finding your people. That’s what fandom is.

It’s something I don’t think younger people or people new to fandom quite grasp.

This fandom isn’t just people who ship one couple but I don’t know why people act like shipping a couple means you’re ignoring a message of a show. I love Gihun. His struggle for optimism and humanity despite all the terrible things is something that I think many people connect to in such a dark time. I relate to his drive and hope for justice. A lot of the inhun fics I see are also about exploring that theme and looking at how both Gihun and In-ho look at it. Look at how both of those characters view hope, humanity, etc and how they grow and change because of it. Shipping is just another way of exploring relationships and themes.

There’s also plenty of discussion about the themes being discussed. If you look for it you find it. Same with shipping. That’s the joy of fandom. You get what you’re looking for if you actually look for it. I have read so many great Gihun thought pieces on here and the dried out husk of twitter. I found them pretty easily.

I don’t understand this new generations aversion to romantic fictional relationships or shipping in general.
