Thoughts while listening to TTPD: The Anthology for the first time
The Black Dog: Too relatable of a post breakup song. Oh no, her voice shaking at the end is so sad.
imgonnagetyouback: again with the marriage theme. so this is the bargaining phase of the breakup mourning? The stripped back part is impactful, I like it.
The Albatross: evermore vibesss!! Idk how but the rhythm of the background instruments in the chorus feels like a large bird flapping its wings, very well done.
Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus: hey my name is in there! hey Maroon! hey White Horse!
How Did It End?: Yay we're invited to a funeral. "We must know, how did it end?" feels like a fan's perspective, speculating about her relationships and breakups. This song is kind of haunting.
So High School: Okay but to be in high school right now and being able to wake up and walk to school this song blasting in your headphones, you kids have it good. Enjoy this period of your life!
I Hate It Here: "tell me something awful like you're a poet trapped in the body of a finance guy?" what??? this line is so good. Imagine opening a song with this line. This resonates with my precocious childhood. Omg I love this song. Feels like having your life flashing before your eyes.
thanK you aIMee: I see you Aaron Dessner! This is suuuuch a typical Taylor song my God. Like Mean but more elevated. I imagined North singing this and I chuckled.
I Look in People's Windows: I see Aaron Dessner is still here. Ooh I like it! Weird Taylor for the win.
The Prophecy: "A stronger woman wouldn't beg" girlie we've all been there. Not her howling at the moon before the last chorus. I love it. I relate to it too much.
Cassandra: I need to listen to it more but I know I like the background vocals.
Peter: Just from the first few notes I know I'm gonna like it! Peter is 17 and doesn't know anything.
The Bolter: Red vibes! That little touch of Country Taylor is nice for a song about her. It is about her, right? Did she almost drown at six?
Robin: The melody is lovely!
The Manuscript: Oooh the instrumental between the verses is magnificent! Very Dear Reader vibes obviously. I do hope she is at peace now.

Tbh I don’t think revealing somebody else’s mental health issues and making it about yourself is ‘classy’ at all. Writing about your exes being a dick and dumping you by phone is one thing. Writing about them being depressed is invasive.
I for one don't see where Taylor is revealing any of Joe's mental health issues.
The only lyrics that would presumably be about a depression in So Long, London according to Genius are
You sacrificed us to the gods of your bluest days
but "blue days" don't equal depression, he could just be moody
and
Pulled him in tighter each time he was drifting away
which I interpret as him drifting away from her and their relationship, which obviously can happen without being depressed
I don't follow him, but I don't think he ever opened up about having mental health struggles? Whereas Taylor has and I don't think she would be that done-deaf and demeaning toward people suffering from it. I'm pretty sure she had the opportunity with some other exs and yet she never did, so I don't think she would start now.
If you have another interpretation of the lyrics I'd be happy to read it! Hope you still enjoy the album!

Also this album plays with humor in ways Taylor hasn't experimented with before and as with everything else she tries, she absolutely NAILS how to do it in a tasteful way.
