We missed out on the Lucanis water scene because they couldn’t risk jeopardizing the story cannon that Rook will drown in anything more than a puddle.

Everything Known about Antivan Crow Rook

A collection of canon information about Rook, when choosing the Antivan Crow faction/background.

(I will add more if more comes up.)

About a year prior to the game, Rook went against orders and rescued a patrol of Antaam herding prisoners to another city. Rook saved the captives, Varric among them, but compromised a larger Crow strike in planning. Rook was sent out of Antiva for "carrying out unauthorized operations." Varric recruited Rook into his team.

About six months prior to the game, Viago reached out to Rook via letter, ordering them to treat their trip with Varric like a contract.

Teia considers Rook to be a friend. Also, according to her and Heir, Viago has a soft spot for Rook as well. (He doesn't show it because he's just grumpy.)

As a member of House de Riva, Rook received "the best training available". Rook was seen as having innate talents to begin with.

Rook spent most of their life in Antiva.
