worldbuilding is inventing an entire universe but forgetting to explain how people do taxes or go to the bathroom.

the sheer chaos of naming fictional places: is it a random collection of letters that looks cool but is impossible to pronounce? or is it a weirdly basic name, like “the green valley,” that makes your high-fantasy world sound like a tourist brochure?

Writemas Day 3
Heyo! I am currently battling the flu so todays piece is not my best work but I wanted to get something out since I missed yesterday. Enjoy! Again thank you @agirlandherquill for the prompts
The blazing fire gleaming in her eyes as she watched the very creation she spent the last 20 years of her life on bursting into flames around her. A normal person would be screaming and crying as they watched their home burn along with everything they ever worked for inside, but Elynor was no normal person. Her fiery red hair matching the color of the flames, both swaying in the cold night air, her ash covered hand gripping the match box as she watched her empire crumble to her feet.
Her husband Ranoldo ran up to her his muscular hands holding her cheeks looking for any sign she had gotten hurt. “Elynor what happened?” his voice worried as the flames reflected in his chocolate eyes. “I did what I had to” she said with a sadistic smile tugging at her lips. Ranoldo looked at her panicked wondering what his wife had done, the moment the flames caught his eyes once more it clicked. The love of his life had burned down everything, every photo, every document, and every accomplishment. “Tell me everything, what did you do?” he barks at her wanting confirmation.
Her golden eyes looked into his, the flames licking at her pupils. “I did what I had to” she whispers manically.

First Day of Writemas
thank you @agirlandherquill for creating the prompts for writemas this year. Admittedly this is my first time participating in any prompt writing trend on tmblr or writeblr, so give me some grace. For me it is always spooky season, so I hope you enjoy my little spooky story.
-Love Grace-Thomas <3
“We shouldn’t be here” She whispered the words falling off her lips quickly as she looked around at the gothic manor they had stepped into.
Allison was all for ghost hunting in abandoned places, but something about the chill of this place rubbed her the wrong way. Issac stood next to her, the black backpack slung over his shoulder holding their equipment. The walls were a dark black oak with beautiful rusted gold antique mirrors and paintings. The central staircase welcomed them as soon as their feet hit the white marble floors. The staircase was probably the only welcoming part about the manor they stood in, “If any place was going to be haunted it would be this place.” Issac says almost sounding proud of himself for finding death's manor. “If I die I promise I will haunt you for the rest of your life.” Allison says the camera in her hand panning around the room, so she can show the viewers how immensely creepy their current location was.
Their footsteps echoed as they walked and with each step Allison was cursing Issac for wearing his heavy duty combat boots. “Can you not walk quieter?” she snaps keeping her voice in a whisper as she glared at him. Her eyes moved away from him scanning their surroundings as she walked. She noticed the gothic wooden decals on the walls, her nimble fingers gliding over them as she walked. She had always appreciated the architecture of Victorian homes, even ones as creepy as this one.
Issac stopped walking and pulled the backpack off his shoulder resting it on the kitchen table. Supposedly this was the “safest” room in the house. He spread out their supplies making a game plan of where they would go first……

Why is coming up with a title that has never been used, one of the hardest things I’ve ever done?

Why am I writing more lore on a character that doesn’t even count as a background character, than the actual main character? She’s like an ex boyfriend to the plot.
