Underpainting in progress ! Early this summer I realized that the painting process I’ve been using wasn’t working for me anymore. I spent the last few months carving woodblocks, reading everything I could find about painting, talking to my artistic friends, and hoping for a breakthrough. Sure enough, I did have that bolt of lightning, and have been so happy working on this little painting with a completely different approach than what I’ve taken in the past. Had a solid day of printing yesterday! Not so much today, though, even though that was the plan. Word to the wise: Don’t cover up all of your green firewood with a tarp for the winter and then forget about it until July 14th. It will be slimy and rotting and you’ll get to split it all up in hopes of saving it while it’s 900 degrees outside ☠️ . “Johnny Orr Rapids” 12 x 15 inches . I had a blast finishing up this woodblock yesterday and printing up a small edition of 4 under the summer sun. Painting has been giving me a hard time lately, so this was a great change of pace. I finally got to use some beautiful Japanese Washi paper that I had stowed away for just this purpose, and I love it. Great texture and creamy color.
