A Fairy by any other Name.
The good people, the Gentry, the Shining Ones, and the neighbors. Calling a powerful supernatural being by it's real name was considered disrespectful.

I think it’s kinda a shame how far zombies got from their source material
Don’t get me wrong, I like the way that they evolve over time reflects the fears of the people in that time period, but I still wish there was more of a connection to its source
So (this is just a really quick recap but I encourage everyone to go read up on more of it), zombies originated from Haiti (specifically Haitian slaves), and they weren’t violent, they were corpses reanimated against their will to continue being slaves, and the fear surrounding them was about becoming one, having your restful sleep stolen from you, and not being able to have that peace in death because of some jackass with magic
And yeah nowadays there’s a fear in being bitten, but idk, it’s less about the fear of becoming part of the horde and more about the fear of being torn apart by the horde, it’s not like how werewolves agonize over being werewolves, and I think it should be more like werewolves
Like even when a person has been bitten and is slowly becoming a zombie, it’s not really framed from their perspective of the fear of losing themselves and not being able to rest in peace, it’s always framed from the perspective of their loved one coming to terms that they may have to kill them to protect themselves
“Oh hell is full so that’s why the dead roam the earth” those are good people!!! who had their eternal rest robbed from them!!!!
I just. I just wish that killing a zombie was more about having mercy on them

Closed and Open Practices
What is it an open/close practice? It's a phrase used a lot in wiccan/occult communities so what exactly is it?
Like a door, if it's open then you are free to practice freely, if it's closed it means its closed off to you if you are not part of that group.
There are two types, Region locked and Race Locked. [Source]
Closed Communities such as;
Amish. Judiuism. Roma. Hoodoo. Haitain Vodou.
"A reason a variety of communities may close their practices is that they are deemed as “race locked”, indicating that these communities were created as an attempt to unify together during times of hardship, with their beliefs formed around their shared experiences."
Then there is Region locked, only because of speicific locations as their practice ties into their lifestyle locally it would not make sense to worship that far away from that region so there's usually no point to bother.
Poached Religions.
"Due to the widespread amount of misinformation emphasized by ignorant users on the internet, there has been an outstanding increase in Native cultural appropriation and inappropriate use of Indigenous spirituality. There is a multitude of sacred Indigenous practices that are considered closed, such as white sage smudging and the use of palo santo. Because marginalized groups were historically mistreated and often persecuted for their beliefs in order to survive, it was necessary for these communities to close their religion to outsiders. As closed rituals like smudging gain attention, the supply of sacred herbs designated for Indigenous communities becomes endangered. Not only does the environment suffer from the colonizer’s capitalist profits, but so does the sanctity of the Native practice. Looking into safe, effective, and respectful alternatives for smoke cleansing is a wonderful way to show direct acknowledgment for those who sacrificed their livelihood for spiritual freedom. "

Smudging |
Yes. Smudging is a sacred native American Practice that can only be successfully done by a shaman. Native American Practices, such as smudging, becoming a shaman and God worship are closed to those who are non native.
However, smoke cleansing can also be found in many other cultures and religions, open ones, that don't appropriate the practice. ___________________________________________________________
And if you do choose to smoke cleanse then may I suggest, pine, cedar, lavender, rosemary, frankincense, sweet grass, mugwort (though if you are taking medications or are pregnant this one is not safe to inhale or ingest), basil, bay, Juniper, thyme, Angelica, peppermint (also with this one, do not inhale or ingest if pregnant), eucalyptus, parsley, calendula, wormwood and cinnamon.

Non Smokey Ways to Cleanse
We all know that you can cleanse with smoke cleansing, and insence but some people, those who have allergies or asthma should not be cleansing their spaces this way, so here are some different ways to cleanse your space!
Sunlight
Open up all the doors and windows in your home and let the sun wash away the negativity that has gathered in your home. If a gentle breeze passes through, let it!
The best days for this are Monday and Saturday, and would be best if you do it while the sunrises!
Moonlight
Like above, upon the doors and windows in your home and let the moonlight filter in.
The best times for this are during blue moons, or full, third quarter, waning, crescent or waning gibbous moons.
Sprays
Now sprays can be home-made or store bought.
Home-made should have sun water, any crystal, herbs, essential oils (use a carrier oil) and sigil that amplifies a cleansful intention. (Some crystals absolutely cannot go in water, be sure you have done your research before hand.)
If store bought, then scents like lemon, lavender, eucalyptus, bergamont, ylang ylang, sage (not white sage), frankincense, peppermint and chamomile.

Winter Solstice:
Samhain: Oct. 31- Nov. 1st. Time of completion, the seeds of the harvest live dormant and hidden in the deep earth. The God has died and the goddess, as crone mourns him until his rebirth. The Veils between worlds are at their thinnest. Boundaries dissolve and all is laid bare. Honouring ancestors. [Origin = "To be filled."]
Tumblr media
______________________________________________________________ Yule/Winter Solstice: Dec 21- 22 Darkness reaches its peak longest night and is defeated with the return of the sun, the return of light, hope and promise. Celebration as the goddess gives birth to the son/sun god. The Dark Holly King is overcome by the light Oak King: they are one. Festival of Rebirth. Origin = "To be filled."
Tumblr media
Imbolc: Feb. 1-2 Winter is at its peak, life quickens with the promise of spring. As the suns power returns. The light returns and the light grows stronger. The earth awakens with whispers or renewal and new beginnings. The light of the Young Oak king is waxing. Festival of the brighid as the young maiden goddess. Origin = "To be filled."
Tumblr media
__________________________________________________________
Ostara/Vernal Equinox. March 21-22 Light and Dark are in perfect balance. Darkness is defeated, the days grow longer, the sap is rising and all is greening and expected. The life-giving power of the young goddess and god grows. Origin = To be filled
Tumblr media
___________________________________________________________
Beltane: April 30- May 1Spring is at its peak, the young Oak king wins the hand of the Maiden. The Sacred marriage of Goddess and God is consummate and the goddess conceives, celebration of fertility of life and sexuality. Origin = To be filled.
Tumblr media
______________________________________________________________
Litha/Summer Solstice June 21-22
The goddess is pregnant with a child and the sun god is at the height of his vitality, the earth is awash with fertility and fulfilment at the peak of the year and the longest day. As the light reaches its peak the sun begins to wane. The holy king overcomes the Oak king and the return of the dark begins. Origin = "To be filled."
Tumblr media
____________________________________________________________
Lughnasad/Lammas: July 31- Aug 1 First Harvest, celebration of the grain mother, the golden corn is cut and the Lord of the Grain gives himself in sacrifice and is transformed into life-giving bread. The god is dying but lives on in the Goddess as her child. Origin = "To be filled."
Tumblr media
_____________________________________________________________
Mabon/Autumn Equinox Sep 21-22
Second Harvest and thanksgiving. The goddess as harvest Queen with radiant and with plenty. Light and dark are in balance and the light is defeated as the horned god descends into the underworld. The god dies with the cutting of the last grain. Origin = "To be filled."
Tumblr media
And so disclaimer, it is to be determind what is/ is not okay to celebrate as some voices online are stating that The Wheel of the year/Sabbats are appropriation- but this is the grey area as I'm reading some saying it's okay as long as you state WHAT came from WHERE and not claim it as a wiccan new age spirtuality/ but until I'm told otherwise [and seeing TONS of tumblr/youtubers giving advice on how to celebrate Mabon, Samhain etc it feels more confusing so who knows?

Wheel of the Year | Sabbats Page One
Page two -> [In depth of the Wheel of the Year and the Summer/winter solstice and spring autumn equinox]
Just learned [as this is not my circle I'm frequently engaged in, remember whats common knowledge to you guys is new information to me] Sabbat = Origin was jewish and is appropriated and so it's not recocmended to use so others use Wheel of the year.
Why I don't call them Sabbats Blog Post -> Source Why I don't call them Sabbats/Tumblr -> Source *Little similair but goes into more detail about gardner etc. Wheel Of the Year Information -> [Source]
And so Wheel of the Year! Also words that might not be great to use;
Yule: December 19-23
Imbolc: February 1-2
Ostara: March 19-23
Beltane: April 30 – May 1
Litha/Midsummer: June 19-23
Lughnasadh: August 1-2
Mabon: September 20-24
Samhain: October 31 – November 1
And so with the above I am now in the position to pick out the rubbish out of this well, and see if the water is even usable at this point.
Most have stated that this is a hodgepoge luandry with a couple coloured socks in the mix and that others are made up/appropriated bastardized versions. Some are okay to use as long as you source the origins, not to claim it as wicca but state that for example Samhain is Irish descent, Yule or Norse descent etc.
Personally if it was up to me I would just do seasonal [speaking for myself but even when I tried to celebrate all the holidays I couldn't I was exhausted and all the STUFF you needed as a solitary which]
I don't know why it's not just split into the four seasons, Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter. Most you cannot use, but others I've been told not to disregard because celebrating them is whats keeping them alive before they fall to time. As long as you source them and say what is irish/ jewish/ norse and keep them in check you can still celebrate.
[Source] <- this is a tumblr blog post that goes into detail about the wheel of the year there 'are' some issues so I recocmend reading the comments/reblogs.
____________________________________________________________
[Source]
The 4 lesser Sabbats or quarter holidays are the two solstices and two equinoxes. They have origins in Germanic traditions and include: Yule (winter solstice) - Was told it was a pagan holiday, originally norse so far no ones brought up issues celebrating this one. Ostara (spring equinox) -> [Source] So online some people [and I myself who regurgitated and didn't realise] was told that Christians appropriated the old traditions from pagans/witches to use it into their beliefs they stold christmas from yule/ halloween from samhein and easter from Ostara. The blog touches on the misinformation that Ostara is NOT easter and explains why. Litha (summer solstice) From what I've been told Litha sometimes gets confused with the other one, and and Mabon (fall equinox). -> [Source] This person does just state the info as a fact and doesn't supply a source BUT others have discussed the topics and have backed up their statments so I trust it a little but in case you're like me and disregard information if it feels more like a personal opinion/ over fact.
____________________________________________________________
Okay this one I may still work on/edit when I get more information together because what I LOVE [sarcasm] about this site is that they are very vague about info and when someone makes a post THEN do they decide to be OH SO HELPFUL and tell me how WRONG I am ah gotta love tumblr.

This is Cultural Appropriation
Tumblr media
The version of the wheel of the year we see today was popularised by Wicca which was founded by Gerald Gardener. Who was an English man. Ireland was very badly oppressed by English colonialism. The British slaughtered a lot of Irish people while they were being overtaken. And they are also the reason so many people starved in the famine. The British are also the reason Ireland converted to christianity instead of paganism.
This wheel is a jumbled up mess of a variety of European holidays all merged into one and labelled “Wicca”. This is appropriation as its unacknowledged where all these came from.
Not all European countries are the same and these colonial countries are not entitled to claiming the traditions they colonised.
In Ireland May Day/Bealtaine was still celebrated in certain counties until the last century. But people are still misusing it and mispronouncing it. Pronouncing Samhain “Sam hain” instead of “sow wen”, unaware that it is the Irish word for November. And that Bealtaine is the word for May. In a language still used.
English colonialism is the reason we starved The reason we stopped speaking our language as widely. And a religion popularised by an English man is now using our words without directly crediting the cultures.
And now its further reinforced by the way that people are taking these words out of context. Mixing them up with other European words. Without giving credit to any of the countries they came from.
Its like how people will take chakras from hinduism and sage from native americans and throw some jesus in and just call it “new age spirituality”
(Native people have it even worse than the situation with Irish culture. Native Americans are going through so much shit. Cause people use spirituality as an excuse to just take shit)
You can’t use things without acknowledging the fact that they are from specific cultures.
Tumblr media
This is a more Irish accurate wheel of the years. Please acknowledge the cultures you got these words from.
I have more info on the holidays on my page. Lora o brien is another good native resource. Please share this with anyone who uses the wheel of the year.
Other European countries feel free to share a your countries more culturally accurate wheel of the year.

Call / invoking a spirt | Divination
Look into a mirror. Think of the name of the spirit you wish to call. Then chant, calling the spirit by name: Heaken to these words, hear me cry. I call to you spirit from the other side. I wish to speak to you here, come to me, come to this mirror. I call you now; bloody mary! I mean spirits name
Tumblr media
Invoke: meaning to call or to summon.
"In witchcraft, invoking means calling upon spirits or deities for assistance. Invoking is a ritualistic practice that involves asking for something specific. For example, if you want to get rid of a bad habit, you might ask for help from a deity who represents good luck. If you want to attract love, you might ask for a blessing from a god or goddess of love." [Source]

Oracle Cards | Divination
*Authors Note: Ironically I got miffed because I was like I ain't buying oracle cards for this :( just to find out I own four oracle cards aha ^^; And so I'll only post a few as examples not the whole deck. ___________________________________________________________
Oracle decks are like tarot cards, but much simpler. You don't have to place them in a certain way, or memorise their meanings, or know what they all mean together or when pulled in a certain order. You just shuffle the deck, pull the card or cards that feel right, and read what they say. [Source]
Okay so the decks I have are;
Tumblr media
It has 45 cards and a 160 page guidbook.
Tumblr media
Faceless ghost 34: noppera-bo who wear masks and have no personality or faces and take others as their own their are there to take the girls and yours. The huanted girl speaks: these faceless ones are coming for me, trying to take advantage of what they see as my weakness, I do not fear them as I know they are blank...
Divination message: You may seem in need of help, people are acting like experts and supporting each other in a group mindset and wanting you to join them. [basically a cult mindset where people follow a popular belief system and the card advises you to be your own person] I'm not going into detail- I'm not pirating these cards- meanings just going into detail about what to expect from this oracle deck.
________________________________________________________
The Nature of Wicca 26 oracle card [That I bought from the Range locally]
Tumblr media
Fire: Fire is related to motivation, creativity, and passion. it's energy is fast, forceful, and positive and it's power can be frightening. Remember that fire is the element of physical challenge, sensation and sexual energy. When fire is out of balance it becomes destructive, and needs boundaries and control.
__________________________________________________________ Earth magic Oracle Cards:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lake Stillness: It's in the deep, internal stillness, is that we find our being and come to know that we are intimatly united with all of creation. Life is going too fast, so it's time to stop and smell the posies, no matter how quick take the moment to embrace and seek the stillness. Create a safe space, sanctuary to retreat to where you will feel calm and still.
And so each card is different, I did have a third crystal fairy one but the art was just...ew. I couldn't even find the images on line and I don't want to take photos on my phone espeically again- not taking anyones jobs away from them. And so popular oracle cards online are;
Moon Decks. Elemental Suite Seem okay,
Wild Unknown animal spirit deck. Star Seed. Tantric Dakini. I'm unsure about recocmending these just the names and I don't want to recocmend decks I don't own/ havn't been vetted yet that isn't 'appropriation' because those names seem a bit dodgy to me but who knows they might be okay.
Origin: Oracle decks first appeared in France in the 19th century, just about the same time that Tarot cards began to take on a newly spiritual meaning.

Tarot | Divination Tool
*Note: Since Tumblr has a limit of ten images it will take me a while to upload each image not only for the Major Arcana but also the Minor arcana such as cups/wands and I don't have the time for that so here's the link so you can copy themselves Artistic witchy here: There was a myth I read [take this with salt] that because of mass production of tarot cards the people who was in the buisness created the rumour that a tarot deck has to be passed down to 'work' but most believe that if you designed or created your own tarot deck it would work a little better because it's your whole core you put into it. ___________________________________________________________
[Source] A link to all 78 Tarot cards and in depth meaning and upright/reversed meanings. [Source] Another website some meanings are similair/different as tarot is not exact.
Okay lets start!
Tumblr media
78 Tarots on a deck.
Divided into two sections [major arcana/mysteries] and [Minor arcana/mysteries] There are 22 Major Arcana cards, tend to deal with big life events and overarching themes, such as relationships, career and love.
There are 56 Minor Arcana cards. Divided into four. Suits. Wands, Pentacles [also called coins] cups, swords. With 14 cards in each. A King, Queen, Page respectfully, from ace-ten.
Major: The fool, the magician, high priestess/priest, empress/emperor. Hierophant, lovers, chariot, strength, hermit, wheel of fortune, justice, hanged man, death, temperance, the devil, The tower, The Star, The moon, The Sun, The Judgement, The World.
Minor: Wand, Pentacle, Cup, Sword. 14 cards each, going from ace to 10 then page, knight, king, queen. ____________________________________________________________
So Minor:
Suit of Cups – Element of Water – Emotions & Relationships
Suit of Pentacles – Element of Earth – Property & Achievement
Suit of Swords – Element of Air – Wisdom & Communication
Suit of Wands – Element of Fire – Passion & Inspiration
It’s important to consider these elements and areas when working with the minor arcana cards, making it much easier for an intuitive reading to happen (after a bit of practice of course)!
WANDS:
Suits of wands. Energy drive, willpower, creativity, power.
Associated with the element of fire, the suit of wands represents passion, inspiration and creativity. The wands imbue their users with primal energy, for it is through them that the cycle of creation can begin. Because of their ability to bring energy into any situation, they are also associated with action, ambition and making plans. At their worst, they can refer to situations that are filled with recklessness and lack of direction. As you follow the journey within the wands, you'll come across these themes again and again.
CUPS:
Suit of Cups: Emotion, Feelings, Intuition, relationships.
The suit of cups rules over all that is associated with emotions, the unconscious, creativity, and intuition. They frequently talk about relationships, whether romantic or otherwise. And ones imagination and inner world. They are associated with the element of Water, Which becomes a frequent visual theme within this suit. At their worst, the cup's suit is fretted with uncontrolled feeling and fantasy and a disconnect with one's inner voice.
Swords:
Suit Of swords. Logic, Ideas, intellect, communication.
The sword is the suit of intelligence, logic, truth, ambition, conflict and communication. Its associated with the element of air, in readings. These cards focus on the faculty and power of the intellect, which like the swords themselves, are double-edged. This can used for both good and evil, to help and to har and our greatest conflicts usually come from this delicate balance, at their worst, the swords can be abusive, harsh and lack empathy.
PENTACLE/STARS:
Suit of Pentacles: Nature, Body, Material world, stability.
The Pentacles is the suit of all things worldly and material, though we will immediately think of the pentacles as relating to financial matters, we also can understand them as being associated with security, stability, nature, health, and prosperity.
The Pentacles or Earth element. When we see pentacles show up in a reading they are usually concerned with your long term future, Career, generosity, your household, business investments and your feelings of sensuality. The negative side of the pentacles show up as greed, jealousy, miserliness and unbridled ambition at the cost of all else.
_____________________________________________________________
A form of divination using cards to ask the future or different paths to follow. The standard deck holds 78 cards, divided into Major and Minor Arcana. These cards reveal hidden truths and knowledge.
Major Arcana: The Most powerful cards in the deck, they are big influences and signs to Keep in Mind.
Minor Arcana: Represented by the four elements, Each represents a different experience: ideas, feelings, actions, and manifestation.
Cups: The unknown, soul, emotions, spirit, healing, relationships.
Swords: Spirit, knowledge, intellect, choices, freedom, judgement.
Wands: Will, intention, creativity, success, intuition power.
Pentacles: Security, talent, nature, confidence, community results. ____________________________________________________________
Origin of Tarot: "The earliest references to tarot all date to the 1440s and 1450s and fall within the quadrilateral defined by the northern cities of Venice, Milan, Florence, and Urbino. Italy. Because of the complicated nature of the game by that point, it is likely that it had begun evolving earlier in the century." [Source]

I'm a baby witch(not specifically Wicca) and I've had a connection with Greek Mythology, especially Hades, and recently he's been reaching out to me a LOT. I want to work with him but I've seen a lot of older witches say it's a bad idea for baby witches to work with deities, but whenever we talk(I hear his voice in my head all the time) he treats me like a daughter/student. I was wondering if you had any advice for me? Like if it's okay for me to work with him cause he's been so patient?
Hi anon! I’m actually really glad you brought this up, because I’ve been meaning to tackle this topic.
I really, REALLY dislike the idea of “good/bad beginner deities.” It’s so pointless. All that does is make newcomers feel like they have limited options. And for what? So they don’t want to pursue a deity who’s calling to them?
And who decides which deity is “beginner friendly”? Every deity, Saint, and divine entity has a learning curve. Period. And every person jives with different deities. So the lists of “good/bad beginner deities” are entirely subjective and just…pointless.
I’m not ranting at you, anon. I’ve just been seeing a ton of “I need to work with XYZ because I’m a beginner” posts lately, and it makes me so sad. I’m sure that “beginner deity” posts come with good intentions, but they end up hurting people in the long run.
You want to work with Hades? Go for it. Greek, Egyptian, Roman, Celtic, and Norse pantheons are all open cultures, so it’s not like you’re hurting anyone.
Also, Hades is usually much more subtle with signs, so that fact that He’s this explicit means it’s a good time to start a relationship. IMO, at least. Have fun!
