i love intern mcu!peter parker fics as much as the next person, but what i really love are the aus where peter doesn't have any powers. he's not a hero, he doesn't stick to walls, he's just a regular dude who also happens to be the genius of his generation.
in the movies, peter is always shifting in place awkwardly like he isn't used to being... him. which makes sense to me because all his life he'd been teased and made fun of by that one annoying rich kid. now that he has the physical capability to fight back, he's hesitant. like, he technically could pummel flash, but can he really? he still can't quite get used to the way his shirts fit a little tighter or how he knocks things over because he still can't manage his strength.
he still doesn't feel normal.
but for my headcanon, peter without his powers would somewhat change that.
as flash's jibes grow old and repetitive, peter gets so sick of it he just brushes it off now. rolls his eyes maybe even once or twice. because at that point, who really has the time to focus on a bully who spends most of their life coming up with terrible insults?
not peter, whose only living family is his aunt who works double shifts at the hospital.
maybe he's desperate to lift her burden somehow, and finds himself joining the robotics team because the cash prizes in those competitions are absolutely jaw-dropping.
and maybe his creations catch the attention of tony stark who takes one look at his work and goes, "hm. i haven't done that yet. who the hell do i need to hire?"
then tony meets peter for the first time and is like, "wow. he's everything i could have been when i was younger."
so peter starts his internship and maybe finds a weapon lying around randomly in the lab. he tinkers with it and makes it better, leaving it where it was without another thought on the matter.
then the black widow of all people shows up a few days later, dumping all her tools on him so that he can improve them. (she definitely didn't leave that weapon laying around to see what peter would do once he got his hands on SHIELD technology as a test of sorts.) (she also definitely didn't smile when she realised that he added a taser with enough power to down an elephant to it. definitely not.)
then it becomes a Thing.
the other avengers slowly discover that natasha's weapons have been getting better and better, "it's not fair that the black widow, already arguably the coolest looking mf out of all of them, gets favouritism in gear!" and find out about peter's contributions.
so every once in a while, they'll just drop something off at the labs, still somewhat skeptical that a child could improve cutting edge technology meant to be at the top of its game.
every single time, the gear returns infinitely better. tony is a little salty about that, because why the fuck are the avengers harassing his protege???
peter, on the other hand, is like "...yeah okay." because he literally does not even dream of the possibility that the avengers would notice him out of hundreds of staff at the tower. he literally assumes that the avengers think he's a random technician who just happens to have higher clearance.
(okay, maybe bucky barging into the labs one day with the most murderous expression on his face, staring at him intensely for a few moments before extending his arm in request for a check-up should have been a sign. but peter just assumed that it was tony's instructions because why would a superhero come to him of all people?)
then after many, many rounds of interviews and interrogations, courtesy of SHIELD, peter is finally given clearance to design custom weapons for the heroes. (he already has 20 blueprints shoved inconspicuously in his desk drawer.)
like, i would really like to see peter's human side be explored more in fics!!!!

idk how to explain this but there's so much potential in bob being a 阴湿男
like this is a man who's literally consumed by an emptiness in his mind because he doesn't see any possibility of life getting better. to the point where he signs up for a medical study that screams "SHADY SHIT" from a thousand kilometres away, maybe just the tiniest bit hopeful, but mostly accepting that he would die then and there. because he couldn't find any reason to save himself.
then yelena comes along.
when they first met, bob was an amnesiac who had no experience in fighting and no powers (at the time), yet yelena took one look at him and said, "yeah, we're going to figure out a way to escape. together."
when he first confesses about his pain, yelena listens and understands. she even shows him why she does, albeit completely unintentional on her part. she's someone who feels the exact same emptiness, the exact same void, yet she's still dragging him around corners and bullets, determined to stay alive. together.
when he meets her as sentry, egotistic, arrogant, and actually quite okay with beating them up, yelena pulls her punches at every turn. she tries to stop the others from fighting, from hurting him. somehow, he feels himself hesitate with her.
lastly, the void. yelena belova literally pulls him away from being consumed by his darkness. SHE LITERALLY IS THE LIGHT TO HIS DARKNESS.
so you're telling me that everyone's somehow thinking that bob is the golden retriever to yelena's black cat???
in my eyes, bob would kill someone without a single blink if it meant that yelena would be by his side. sure, he would hesitate if it came to the rest of the thunderbolts* like that's my found family right there! but if it came to them versus yelena, yeah he would think for a moment then annihilate them with a snap.
in my eyes, bob would stay up at night, completely disregarding his need to sleep in favour of watching the way yelena breathes when she's asleep, the way she shifts under the covers, the way she unconsciously holds his hand because it's warm. he would memorise everything about her, even the number of eyelashes she has.
in my eyes, bob would shut down completely when she's not around, because he knows that she could leave if she wanted to. she could do better, find someone stronger, more stable, more normal (at least that's what the void whispers when the night is quiet) and he can't stand it. and the thing is, even if, or maybe when, yelena eventually leaves, he can't blame her.
he'll just make sure to be right behind her.

anyway so who's going to save me with a fic showing how yelena interacts with bob / sentry / void because she's the only exception ???????
with bob, yelena lets her guard down. she can stop constantly looking for the nearest exit in every room, stop reminding herself how many bullets there are in her weapons, stop twitching at every loud sound that remotely resembles gunshots. yelena feels at peace, knowing that there's someone out there who understands exactly what she's been grappling with all these years, and for that person to be standing right next to her, a lovesick gaze in his eyes.
with sentry, yelena speaks freely. she doesn't have to mince her words, because quite frankly the fact that she isn't trying to put a bullet in his head is already enough restraint on her part, thank you very much. only unfiltered honesty can get through to sentry's arrogance and his not-quite-naivety, and yelena is the only one who can call him a fucking idiot for doing things just because he can without any repercussions. because despite his indignance and cockiness, sentry values yelena's opinion more than his own.
with void...
with void, yelena is quiet. not out of fear, fuck no, but because she doesn't really need to do anything other than... exist. during the first few weeks after the entire shit show, void makes her wake up in various mortifying memories, which annoys her to no end because she could really go a day without being reminded of how shit she was at football.
but she notices that she never sees the woods again.
after that, she finds herself more and more at the lab in kuala lumpur, faced with a hunched back and flickering fluorescent lights. when that happens, she just walks over and sits on the same operating table, closing her eyes and leaning against him. he'll lean back. and she'll wake up in the morning, warmly tucked under her covers.
yeah so is anyone going to save me ????????

lawrellini is many things. in chinese we call it 竹马抵不过天降. in english we call it doomed yaoi.
like aldo has all the characteristics of a main protagonist's love interest.
being his best friend for decades, thomas admires aldo in a way that one wishes the best version of themselves could be. aldo is brave in ways that thomas believes he is not; he isn't afraid to speak about his beliefs and doesn't back down even when there's opposition.
there's a certain tenacity to aldo that thomas can't find in himself, maybe due to his position or due to his struggle with his faith, and that's why thomas almost puts aldo on a pedestal with how highly he thinks of him.
(leading to the inevitable disappointment that happens in the film)
and the fact that it's not even unrequited?
aldo values thomas's opinions the most. we view the events of the conclave through thomas's perspective, so this can't exactly be confirmed, but i do believe that aldo thinks of thomas as his anchor. no matter what happens, thomas always handles matters with a steadfast attitude, as though he'll be able to take on anything with that same hint of a wry smile.
i mean, perhaps that's what aldo thinks. because we know that thomas is very much NOT calm at all throughout the book/movie. the man is literally always 3 seconds from hurling thanks to all the stress he's under!
the point is, both of them view each other as someone they wish they could be. no one else in the world could know each other as well as they do.
then vincent benitez comes along with a metaphorical halo in his luscious dark locks.
and i love lawrenitez because how can you look away from a pair who see the world in each other?
vincent's goodness helps thomas overcome his doubts, while thomas restores vincent's faith in voting for a pope who works himself to the bone for the people. they're simply in awe of each other in every scene they're together, and you simply can't look away.
neither can aldo.

a few chapters into conclave (2016) and i'm noticing just how much cardinal lomeli reaches out to touch people. whether it's a comforting pat on the arm or a warm hand over another's, lomeli always seems to subconsciously make contact with people.
does it have to do with his struggle in his faith?
perhaps only by feeling the warmth of a soul besides his that lomeli understands he is not alone. that the abandonment he feels in the lack of god's presence during his prayers, does not extend to the physical world he desperately tries to keep afloat in.
maybe the reassurement that he fails to find when he's kneeling on the ground with his hands clasped together, can only be found in the touch of another. that the subtle pulse of a heartbeat not his own serves as the only reminder.
a reminder that he is not alone.
at least, not in the physical sense.

with the news of qsmp possibly coming back, i want to do a retrospective on my favourite qsmp event: purgatory.
the entire concept of purgatory is honestly so cruel, which is why i loved every moment of it. oh, so you spent months interacting with streamers all over the world and formed valuable friendships with each other? yeah now kill them for your egg! you know, the egg that you've cared, fought, and sacrificed your life for? yeah. if you don't win, they'll die! oh and btw, there's a cursed team and if they don't win, all the eggs will die and all your effort you've put in for 2 weeks will be for nothing!
like ... that shit was insane ?????
and i still don't know how they decided the teams, but it felt like the main goal was to separate all active players who meshed well together then throw in the inactive ones here and there to make it even. like phil being separated from fit and etoiles, cellbit from roier, foolish from bbh, etc, like you could easily tell that they wanted to make sure that the members on the same team didn't have much experience playing with each other.
i loved this strategy, but mainly because i watched philza's pov. i can't say the same for the other teams, but i do think that bolas rojas was truly an unexpectedly amazing team. as a crow, i was initially quite curious about the team dynamic, because phil hasn't regularly interacted with any of them on the server before (correct me if i'm wrong).
then you see them go from awkward jokes to hopefully encouraging each other because hey who knows maybe they could win to an hour long crash out to renewed vigor born simply out of spite
and it's an exact reminder of how qsmp initially started, how the server brought together these creators whose worlds have no reason intersecting.
i just wish that the event was less pvp heavy, especially knowing that more than half of the server at the time were most definitely NOT known for their pvp skills. like i don't want to compare apples with oranges, but i wish there were specific events that weren't pvp centric like there is in mcc!
(and it'll make it less stressful to watch LMAO)
anyway, i digress.
if the qsmp really does come back, i have a super hot take:
do not bring the eggs back.
no matter how we feel about the qsmp eggs as fans, i think the streamers have moved on. we can lament all we want about how the eggs' stories were never fully realised and had so much potential, but i think it's better to simply leave it be. who knows if the original admins will be coming back, and all the endearing facts we thought we knew about each egg won't be the same.
so if qsmp really does come back with all the admins being paid fairly for their work and managed properly, i do hope that they won't try to go back to the eggs.
all in all, a qsmp comeback(?) was definitely not on my 2025 bingo card!

just watched conclave (2024) and wow lawrence is so isekai harem protagonist coded (none of these words are in the bible)
like in every isekai story now it's about how the protagonist swears to distance themselves from the main characters to escape their terrible fate and live a peaceful life
then they always get attention anyway and basically collect a harem
yeah that's lawrence
my babygirl spends almost the entirety of the movie on the brink of crashing out because of all the stress he's under to make sure the conclave goes well while also grieving someone he's never going to be able to make amends with after parting on bad terms
he literally has to state MULTIPLE TIMES to MULTIPLE DIFFERENT PEOPLE that he has no interest whatsoever in becoming the pope and that he's literally planning to step down as soon as it's all over
then the other cardinals are like ooo you wanna be the pope soooo badddd and then spend a concerning amount of time convincing him to pick a side
and lawrence can't even turn a blind eye to the secrets he's unveiling even though he knows how much easier his life would be if he did , because he can't let years of progress be reduced to nothing , so he keeps having to involve himself in matters that make his life even more stressful
he's a real one because i would have crashed out five minutes into planning the conclave !
lawrence is over here voting for his bestie 5 times in a row and then towards the end bellini is like "this is a race between you and tedesco" like damn ???
anyway was it just me frothing at the mouth every time the camera pans to lawrence's hands when he's comforting another ? like i'm not imagining the tension every time he's talking with bellini or benitez right ???????

the reason why i love nasha as a character so much is because of just how much potential there is for her to be a villain .
like if it were anybody else handling mickey 17 (2025) , it would have been so easy for them to twist her character into a manipulative opportunist taking advantage of the expendable desperate for any type of human connection .
because we've definitely seen this sort of thing before ! corrupting a naive character with betrayal has always been a classic trope to sort of drive their development , conflict builds character and whatnot , so it genuinely would have been so easy for them to just go down the same old route of " look at this absolute IDIOT who thought they found the love of their life only to be BETRAYED and CAST AWAY , look at them be sad now :((( "
which is why it's so fascinating how essentially pure and straightforward nasha's love for mickey is .
she's possessive and defensive of mickey , not because she thinks he needs protecting , but because she's the only one who understands mickey to his core . he's died again and again and again , but he still never gets used to the sensation . every time he comes back , he's just a little bit different from before . more cowardly , more dumb , more quiet .
yet nasha loves him all the same , and isn't that the most romantic thing you've ever seen ?

western audiences will never be able to understand the levels of homoeroticism that chinese media can portray despite the unfathomable censorship restrictions it's under
like two guys can't profess their love for each other but they're literally two halves of a whole , they're destined to be each other's demise yet see so much of themselves in each other that they're willing to fight against the rest of the world for each other , they're fire and water yet they work together seamlessly ...
THEY LITERALLY HOLD HANDS TO FIGHT BECAUSE THEY'RE STRONGER TOGETHER , NOT INDIVIDUALLY !!!!!!!
yeah . i think about ne zha and ao bing a normal amount .

i'm sure i'm not the only one who's said this but richie's death scene genuinely hurts the worst ...
like what do you mean right when richie finally feels accepted , welcomed , NEEDED , that max comes along to tear away that very hope that he just got ????
it's so haunting that richie , albeit going along with the prank in the first place , got the most gruesome death out of all of them AND was the first victim ... bro just wanted a cinematic shot of his long-time bully pissing himself and all of a sudden he's drowning in his blood and toilet water ???
it's clear that max finds some parallels between him and richie , though he would rather die all over again than admit that , which is why he's so taken aback when richie cries out "i'm not a loser" at his impending death .
max , who's both feared and respected throughout the school , doesn't have a single person bat an eye at his disappearance , let alone his death ! hell , the only time people have mourned his loss is when they lose the big game , and even then they're mourning the loss of RICHIE of all people ! that's what max was so afraid of as he was torturing him , that no one prayed for him once he was gone , yet a loser that he held this overwhelming power over would be missed .
max even admits that richie ISN'T a loser . if max weren't in hatchetfield high , richie's social standing probably would have been relatively high even with his weeb status because of him becoming the team mascot !
richie is a loser , because max decided that he was one .
which is why richie's death (imo) was the most significant , because it was max dealing with the fact that he was ultimately unimportant and his peak in high school ended just like that before even graduating , taking it out on the one person he had sabotaged from the very beginning .
and i am so normal about this . so very normal !

i think one of the most tragic aspects of my experience watching <i saw the tv glow> (2024) is the fact that i just didn't understand the movie .
when the credits started rolling , i sat there in my chair , confused but a sense of underlying sadness welling in my chest . i didn't understand why owen screaming for help haunted me like this . i still didn't , even after understanding what the film really was about .
that realisation just made me feel worse .

on episode 16 of partners for justice (2018) season 1 rn and if i had a nickel every time the philippines is mentioned in the context of a suspect / killer fleeing , i would have 2 . and it's strange that i would have 2 , because wouldn't any country work as long as they're out of south korea ????? like the whole point is that interpol is a pain in the ass and they'll lose the suspect , so why philippines of all countries HELPPPP
like even malaysia was mentioned at some point when a woman was suspected to flee ??? WHAT IS HAPPENING ???
that aside , partners for justice genuinely has a great plot and premise that provides an interesting perspective into a profession that i know very little about ! the crimes are interesting and i think the main characters have fleshed out personalities and backgrounds too !
HOWEVER .
everyone needs to go to therapy and learn anger management so that they can fix their emotional processing of a toddler . the entire cast , especially the leads (though for different reasons) yell so much to get their point across that it's honestly grating on my nerves !!!
baek beom yells every time he's conducting an autopsy , either for people to get out or to point out mistakes .
eun sol yells every time the investigation meets an obstacle and directs it towards baek beom 90% of the time because the autopsy somehow didn't project the killer's face into her mind .
kang hyun yells every time he sees baek beom because he's an emotional clusterfuck who can't look at evidence and makes it everyone's problem .
like .
i want to give up on this drama so bad but the plot is so interesting and i know season 2 is better but its so hard ....
especially because there's literally no one on this platform that watches this fucking drama from 7 years ago , and the fics are non-existent , and i really want to write fics between serial killers and forensic examiners !!!!!!

what if seo moonjo was a triangle masked soldier while yoon jongwoo was player 333 ?
( somewhat spoiler-y )
imagine the possibility of moonjo getting approached to become a pink soldier , enticed not with the prospect of "easy" money but an outlet for his very murderous desires . and yeah , moonjo may dislike using guns due to its lack of intimacy , but the gamemakers have caught him at a time of frustration because of the police getting increasingly wary about eden apartment's oddities .
so moonjo says yes .
and he's perfect for the job .
moonjo eliminates players left and right with frightening accuracy and efficiency , his eyes remaining cold and unwavering as he looks through the scope to find his next target . sometimes , he'll miss on a whim , and if his victim wounds up in an incinerator that somehow rarely produces ash , well .
that's not really any of his business , is it ?
2 or 3 years in , it's getting a little boring for moonjo but he knows that quitting won't be as easy as they promise , so he quietly plans his escape while he prepares for his last year .
then he sees yoon jongwoo player 333 and thinks , oh .
he's perfect .
jongwoo on the other hand , is just about fucking done with everything in his fucking life .
if he knew that he'd be roped into a game where he gambles his life for billions of won , jongwoo would at least have completed the job of killing shin jaeho before coming here .
well , at least he tried .
it would be putting it lightly to say that jongwoo was at his lowest point so far in his life when the strange man in a suit approched him in the subway station . unemployed (stapled his resignation letter into jaeho's forehead among other things) , alone (broke up with ji eun , guilt and betrayal brewing an ugly concoction in his gut) , and on the run (jaeho was somehow still conscious enough to call the police and tell them who paralysed him , a shame really) , jongwoo played the game without a moment's hesitation .
when it came to taking the card however ...
... jongwoo hesitates .
it's not because of the humiliation that wells up in his throat each time he's slapped . jongwoo is numb enough to swallow that down with no trouble . it's also not because he doesn't need the money . hell knows how much he needs to get out of the country and live a new life .
it's the blatant excitement that shines in the recruiter's eyes at the sight of blood blooming on the corner of jongwoo's lips . it's the way the recruiter rubs his fingers together after each slap , as though chasing the split second of warmth when his palm connects with his cheek .
jongwoo feels uneasy .
... he takes the card anyway .
when the first elimination happens , the blood sprays across jongwoo's face .
he expects himself to flinch , to fall , to scream and claw at his face to try and get rid of the metal stench that's overwhelming his senses .
through the scope on his sniper rifle , moonjo watches the grin bloom on player 333's beautifully bloodied face , and falls .
yeah so that's about what i cooked up for this au and i'm sure someone has done this the moment yim siwan was announced to be in squid game s2 but i just needed to let out the voices in my head that screamed for more player 333 content so !
thoughts on season 2:
loved the addition of new perspectives , both from players and soldiers , and the players just feel more personal now .
interested to see gihun's development as his beliefs continue to be tested , but he'll most likely remain good because i don't think the director would end this franchise in such a bleak manner .
no eul's character has a low of potential , but she might be tied down to the one (1) male player she barely knows so idk .
yeah myunggi is going to die in season 3 but he survived season 2 and has an actual kill count so A WIN IS A WIN !
