“A day at the Monticello.” Today has been a pleasant and exciting journey to Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello in Charlottesville, Virginia. Firstly, we had a nice and fulfilling lunch at @palladiorestaurant at the 1804 Inn. Then, we walked around the vicinity of Barboursville’s wineries, and experienced stunning and very breathtaking views from the vineyards. “The remote estate on abundant property.” The Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina, is one of the most ornate manors of the Victorian era. A neo-Gothic chateau inspired by medieval and Renaissance manors in Europe, the estate has been a significant piece of Western history. George Vanderbilt built it in 1895 on an ideal location of North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains to pursue his passions of arts, literature, and cultures. He had two renowned Victorian designers for this undertaking achievement: Richard Morris Hunt was George’s architect, and Frederick Law Olmsted designed the gardens. In fact, during its construction, George’s tastes for such cultures and arts influenced his travels with them , collecting an immense and diverse number of pieces of furniture across the Old World. The furniture they collected would become part of the estate. Cornea Vanderbilt, George’s only child, was born in the Biltmore Estate in 1900. Today, the castle is now listed as a National Historic Landmark. With 250 rooms and eight thousand acres of property, this house is the largest privately owned residence in the United States, and one of the largest in the Western world. Some the rooms that we had enjoyed are the banquet hall, the library, the bowling alley, and swimming pools. The library was where George Vanderbilt would enjoy his pastime reading books constantly. The banquet hall would have a fun and talkative atmosphere of two hours of suppers, where residents and their guests would meet and chat while enjoying their meals. After the visit to Biltmore Estate, we headed to the Red Stag grill and had some delicious steaks. “A gastronomical voyage in a small town.” The Inn at Little Washington is an ornate and Old-World inspired inn that offers guests a gourmet and elegant culinary experience of numerous flavors it has to offer. Today, @paganojanine, @gregorypaganoesq, and I enjoyed a vivid adventure through yummy and splendid meals. Firstly, we had some afternoon tea and some delicious bites to accompany it. Secondly, we enjoyed a wine and chocolate tasting @wineloveschocolate, with an assorted array of chocolates. As for tonight, we enjoyed an immense supper of seven courses, including a delicious veal tenderloin wrapped in prosciutto, a lamb carpaccio, and many more courses. “The Viborg Shirt: A Task of Many Random Obstacles to Face in the Making.” The 11th century Viborg shirt is one of my favourite garments from the Nordic Iron Age, due to its structure’s complexity, the stitches to sew, and the effort to create it. It was an adventurous project, with many a challenge to face, especially with the neckline and the attaching the hemmed apron part to the main part of the tunic. “May the atmosphere be filled with abundance of romance.” Happy Valentine’s Day! Last Friday night, @jilliannoonan2490 came over to my house to celebrate it together. In addition to us, @jmpagano, @chickiepagano, and her love @austinsayegh attended the feast. For the appetizers, I had made a lavish cheese plate with assorted charcuterie and cheeses. As for our entrée, we had some delicious spaghetti with shrimp. During the intermission between the entrée and dessert courses, we played billiards; I taught Jill how to play, and then, she won! Lastly, our dessert consisted of: an awesome caramel ice cream, rich chocolate sorbet, caramelized macadamia nuts, and a cute carrot cake Jill had made. “A plate cheeses for cherished ones to be pleased.” This weekend, @chickiepagano and I took a fun and interactive cheeseplate class from @thatcheeseclass, and it was exciting and picturesque. I cut a heart shaped piece out of a wheel of Brie and filled the center with raspberries. Next, we added stroopwafels flanked on the side, quartered. Then, we made some soppresata and salami hearts and roses and made a riveting #salamiriver out of it. Moreover, blackberries, strawberries, and grapes were flanked around the board. In conclusion, we had a little thing of fig jam for our dip. We had some of it for brunch earlier today, and it turned out to be tasty; and I think, as our new standard, we shall make many more exciting cheeseboards and charcuterie dishes. I am grateful to have Jenn as a sidekick to stand up for me whenever I encounter obstacles within life, an amiable resource of knowledge of what is recommended when dealing with hardships, and as a box of randomly assorted pieces of fun times. We had tested some chicken kibbeh with labneh and hummus, and then had nice chicken thighs flavored with orange, some honey, and olives. “A bread of spices.” Happy 2021, everyone! Today, for tonight’s dessert, I have baked a pain d’épices, a spiced cake/bread and/or gingerbread from France. Pain d’épices has been made in Reims since medieval times, and is also popular in Alsace, Lorraine, and Dijon. The 15th century French king, Charles VII of Valois (ruled 1422-1461) was known to have enjoyed this delicacy. Also, the Bourbon dynasty enjoyed pain d’épices, starting with Henri IV’s recognition of a pain d’épices guild in the 16th century, and even Louis XIV during the 17th century fell for this delicious cake.
