Sonamy week 2025

Day 1: Adventure

I wanted to try and mimic the adventure style as much as I could!

I like how the start of Amy's story in this game reminds us how much Sonic inspires Amy to be more adventurous. It seems after not seeing Sonic for a while, she slipped into a more domestic life which she has grown bored of.

l like the contrast of normal girl Amy running errands and the adventurous Amy fighting robots.

Sonic is clearly a driving force in her life (much how he is in many other people's lives) but what is she to him?

I really like the uncertainty and young love yearning of old Sonamy.

While working on my last pixel work, I noticed while moving the arms and legs that it was tricky bringing out the dimensions. So I did overhaul on the core body structure to bring out that lost body language.

I love noodle limbs, but I NEEDED THOSE THIGHS and HIPS, baby. WAHOOO, looking good.

The Votes are in and I believe we got the answer to…

— WHO IS SONIC SUPPOSED TO BE?? —

Now even though the Sonic community is split across many different portrayals, most orbit this same central truth: Sonic is Freedom. Whether you see him as a laid-back thrill-seeker, a symbol of freedom, or a resistance leader, he always pushes forward — never letting others define him. He’s guided by his own inner compass, and he never bows to systems or expectations.

Some people see Sonic as grounded and human. Others see him as poetic and mythic. But both are valid, because they tap into the same core essence: Sonic brings change not through force, but by being unapologetically himself.

So in the end, it’s not about which version is "correct." Sonic isn’t a role — he’s a feeling. He’s a symbol of freedom, of movement, of chasing your own path even when the world tells you to stop.

Maybe the real reason we see Sonic so differently is because everyone has their own idea of what true freedom really means. And each version of Sonic is a reflection of that. Maybe I'm just rambling like a storyteller trying to make sense of the world…

On the Who is Your Sonic Votes and here’s how I’m seeing the data so far.

This is a fascinating lens into the fractured but emotionally resonant identity of Sonic, despite the small pool of 24 votes. Fans may disagree on how Sonic talks or acts, but most agree he's about movement, freedom, and a personal code—whether as a laid-back traveler or a mythic symbol of wind and will.

Even when people vote for different versions like “Freedom Fighter” or “Embodiment of the Wind,” they’re describing a restless spirit—someone who can’t be caged, who moves with purpose but doesn’t let others define that purpose. Whether literal or symbolic, Sonic is always pushes through it all. He follows his own compass, never bending to systems or expectations.

Some fans also like the grounded, everyday Sonic who just loves adventure. Others prefer the mythic Sonic who symbolizes freedom itself. Both are valid, because they express the same core idea: Sonic is a free soul who brings change, not by power, but by staying true to himself.

Either way, here’s what I’m trying to say.

Sonic is less about specific roles or tones and more about what he stands for. That’s why the fandom has so many views of him—and yet they all still feel like him.

The only difference I think now, is that each fan has their own views on what freedom truly is, and what it truly means to be free… or I’m just somehow pulling all this out my ass because I’m a just storyteller making sense of the world myself

This is so interesting. I always saw Sliver as the respectable guy type of character, but with this new information, I’m rethinking a bit.

Here’s my theory. it was supposed to show how out of place he is, contrasting his polite and well mannered behavior to really should he’s out of his setting and doesn’t know how to act completely in the modern day. As someone who knows people who do this in unfamiliar situations and myself included, I see this as a possibility.

Could’ve been inspired by sega looking at Americans visiting Japan a bit.

About 2 days later and looking at the [21] votes so far is interesting on who we each think Sonic should be. So little 50% of it is split just between “Just a Guy, Who Loves Adventure.” and “ Embodiment of the Wind”. Then the rest is quite spread out.

I honestly was thinking I was going to see “Freedom Fighter” or “Hero more”, but this gives me a little hope that we aren’t as split as I thought…

Any who, this split in the 50% seems like a fight between Kami or person??

what I mean for those who not know what a Kami is, it’s a spirit that symbolizes a element of the natural world. Not like gods, but a piece of the world taking form. They can be an emotion, a thing, an element, literally anything, taking form through their own energy.

Back to it. The question left standing from what I see in this 50 50, is how reliable should Sonic be and how pure he should be… I’ll think on it

I’ve been thinking about Sonic’s Character more and now I want to see how separated we are in the last 35 years the community of who Sonic is.

My pixel art journey started recently and I say I’ve been cooking a bit more than I thought I would.

I fell in love with pixel design for Juanita (which was my first try) and really shocked myself. So I quickly made Kaeda the kitsune (character from my upcoming 164 paged graphic novel) in pixel art, and… it’s messy.

Studying closer, i now believe the colors forming Kaeda were both too similar in places and too many colors, which i believe is what’s making it hard to look at… other than the neon background.

Messed around a little more thinking it was just a character design problem, but at last, I still noticed it a bit.

I then created this little ghost girl to help teach myself color separation. I want people to understand there are limbs in places without issue and I then I got it. She’s really neat to look at, no??

Dear Sonic Fans, I feel we’ve reached a point as a community that everyone has a different version of the character in their minds, making it hard to even consider a reimagining.

Like for example, I personally believe this series symbolizes free will as a whole. Being simply and free going, letting anyone join in. sonic is like a Kami or yokai like a sense and the games are us joining him for a ride. So by my view, we should focus on sonic teaching us what it really means to be free and how to express ourselves to the fullest. Like SA1&2, secret rings, unleashed, black knight, and yes, even Sonic 06.

A good example of this version is the art direction of the franchise. Making the characters bold colors and stretching the limits on shape language, they simplify everything to further deliver clear information on the characters, which boosts creativity and easier for expression, which even further unlock freeing feel bc it’s so easy and recognizable.

I’m a writer who studied for 7 years for telling stories, a storyteller telling who loves sonic, but chances are my Sonic might not be yours. Sonic is like mythology a bit now, where legends and myths take part in our own stories. So there’s no right answer I think at this point in time to push the series in any direction…

I would personally back track and maybe even go straight to a soft reboot once again on the Sonic Series. Where we can have Sonic just being Sonic again and the adventures are there to just be there, than some crazy story line like the IDW comics.

I want Stories where Sonic is the Wind once more, helping us, the player and the child that follow what it means to be truly free. The freedom to leave your comforts behind, the freedom to live on knowing things may end, the freedom to take your time and take in the moment every so and so… the freedom to let yourself grow and change… that last one I believe is the most important.
