Was it “anti-science” when people criticized the inclusion of transsexuality in the DSM? Or the fact that gender dysphoria is still considered a mental illness to this day?

Was it “anti-science” when people criticized the inclusion of hysteria in the DSM?

Is it “anti-science” to criticize the inclusion of Oppositional Defiant Disorder and Adjustment Disorder in the DSM-5, both “disorders” that are completely average human reactions but taken to extremes that are measured on a subjective level?

Is it “anti-science” to criticize the exclusion of gambling as an addiction despite the fact that other addictions, like alcohol, are included?

Sorry if this isn't the right outlet but I want to get this off my chest: the gradual name change from "mental health" to "behavioral health" really ought to be sending out more red flags for people than it is.

They. Do. Not. Care. For. Your. Mental. Health. They. Care. About. Your. Behavior.

It's always been about controlling the behavior of undesirables.

I've been saying it for over a decade, now the titles reflect it, and still no one believes me. Also, it is incredibly isolating to have everyone tell you you're crazy and wrong when the evidence is so obvious.

Yes!!! Like your mental health only matters to the system to the degree it prevents you from conforming to society's demands and expectations and being a productive working citizen. It has never been about "making people feel better". Never

queers, psychiatry is not and has never been your friend. you need to learn this and you need to learn it now, for you but also for the (queer) psych survivors in your communities who deserve to feel safe.

Also it's like. Antipsychotics weren't made to "reduce psychosis" cause we don't have that kind of science in psychiatry. What they do and do well is reduce your cognitive function and all around sedate you to a point where you are unlikely to have the energy and ability to act out/cause trouble as a result of being mentally distressed. And while I am not saying that this can't be a relevant relief for a psychotic person in some cases, it sure isn't the straightforward biomedical solution to schizophrenia it's made out to be

i hate the concept of a "noncompliance" in medicine. says absolutely scathing things about the medical and psych industry that a patient not consenting is seen as a problem to push through and a problem with the patient themself rather than someone exercising their right to informed consent that SHOULD BE FUCKING RESPECTED.
