I’m not sure how recently this has been done but some French soldiers have these metal braces or cages around their rifle scopes. From what I was told, they use them to protect their optics from being banged around in the field, while traveling in vehicles, etc. They look to be impromptu field builds from scrap metal and not any sort of manufactured issued type of gear. Apparently it works well enough that its appearing on their more modern gear like the HK rifles. (GRH)
