I know that books will always be the supreme source and yet I can't deny how much I yearn for an adaptation of TSH. With the same aesthetics, vintage feels, Greek class assignments, phone booths, letters and stuff. And Henry being oblivious to man landing on the moon.

I love how walking is used by authors back then as a metaphor for female agency. For example, Pride and Prejudice by Austen, North and South by Gaskell and Lady Chatterley's Lover by D. H. Lawrence to name a few.

umm so i just watched grave of the fireflies and now i have a lump in my throat.
words can't describe this masterpiece. it moves one to the verge of tears. it's a fine work that shows children as mirrors of the adult society, a society that failed them by robbing their innocence and pushing them into a world of trauma and injustice. the characters are lifelike and so were there experiences of war and displacement, especially in tumultuous times like this. i can't believe that there are uncountable seitas and setsukos in this world, still rooting for hope and peace whilst dwindling into nonexistence.
p.s: i pray that no one gets a relative like the aunt shown in this film. heartless maniac.

Review: For me, this book was not just a read, but an experience. It was absolutely mind-blowing. The character I related to the most was Richard (minus certain vile and violent thoughts he himself possesses). But the way Tartt showcased his struggles with belonging, loneliness, and abandonment was sheer perfection. As a reader, I slowly felt replaced by Richard. The story pulls you in that way. When Richard idolizes Henry, the reader does the same. When he feels isolated, it ensures that you do too.
I have a deep disdain for Richard’s parents—probably the saddest part of the book for me was how they neglected their son. And of course, Henry—I can't help but see much of Raskolnikov from Crime and Punishment in him. The only thing that put me off a little was the amount of pages dedicated to the funeral and the time spent in Bunny's house. But that’s just a speck compared to the marvel that awaits the reader.
The characters I loved the most were Henry and Francis. But these are commonly talked about, and even more so, framed so to allure the readers. The lesser-discussed characters are equally significant—Judy Poovey, for instance.
My ratings: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

4 march, '25: I just finished reading this book. It's going to longer on my mind for the next indefinite number of days. That's for sure. I can't fathom writing a review at the moment for fear of saying less than I ought to. I will post my thoughts on the work soon, though.
